Hi, I want to read a File object from ZODB. How can I read the content of the uploaded File object? I must to read it line by line with readlines() Can you show a little code block how to do this? request.locale - do we have this in 2.9.4?

Hi! I'm using Zope 2.9.4 with Five1.4 (linux box). I'm trying to use DateDisplayWidget (from /zope/app/form/browser/textwidgets.py) I get: *Error Type: AttributeError* *Error Value: locale ... Module Products.PageTemplates.Expressions, line 180, in _eval Module Products.PageTemplates.Expressions, line 85, in render Module zope.app.form.browser.textwidgets, line 538, in __call__ Module ZPublisher.HTTPRequest, line 1219, in __getattr__ Which is caused by this line: formatter = self.request.locale.dates.getFormatter( self._category, (self.displayStyle or None)) So is this something with my Zope that I don't have request.locale or is that a bug? -- Maciej Wisniowski *

Can't stop Zope, machine hanging

Hi all, My Zope is stuck like never before. With my server on another continent, 8 hours time difference, and on a Sunday, I am pulling out my few remaining hairs... Our box runs FreeBSD 5, Zope 2.78 (if I remember correctly) and Squid. The ISP has been preparing for a move and shifted some machines, pulled some wires, and I see that the machine has rebooted. I can't restart or stop Zope - '/usr/local/www/Zope/zope01/bin/zopectl stop' just produces '........' for a long time - should I wait? I was unable to kill one of the python2.3 processes, and can't even reboot the machine, using 'shutdown -r now', as I have done previously in extremis. Any ideas? I found 'zserver-threads' in zope.conf, but couldn't find 'pool-size'. Am using Zope 2.7.6. Is this something available on higher versions of Zope ? Regards, Danny

How best to copy and paste in pythonscript?

Hi. I am having some strange problems getting copy and paste to work propperly in python script Basically I do: parent.manage_copyObjects([currFold.id], REQUEST) in one script, and: dest_fold.manage_pasteObjects(REQUEST) in another I have tried a lot of variations, and read all that I could goolge about it, but stil it won't work. Could somebody please tell me the "canonical" way of dooing this? Regards Gaute Amundsen

Killing children process

Hi List! Maybe it is more a question about python, but here it goes... I have an application in Zope which spawns a process (1) in background, a python program by the way. I monitor the process (1) via the PID returned. Embedded in (1), it uses os.system to run an application (2) which does the real job. (2) is a bash script with several embedded programs. However, sometimes I need to kill (1) (os.kill), and I hopped when killing (1), (2) and any of its children should be killed as well. But it does not happen; system (PID 1) inherit (2). I know if I were able to keep a list of any children and grandchildren process I could kill all of them smoothly, however for such a list I have no idea of doing it but: a)- doing a program to track them via unix command 'ps' output (maybe not reliable); b)- changing the code of the 3rd party programs (not really a good idea at all). All interaction are done via portal made in Zope. So, if someone could give any idea of how tackle with this problem, mainly avoiding a) and b), I would appreciate a lot. To simplify, I would like to know if python is able to kill a process and its 'family' without much hassle, and if so, how? Many thanks in advance. How to reference an object under a given folder

Hello, I want to reference an object named "Es" found in the directory /apps/wms . I'd normally create a script in /apps/wms and issue the command obj = getattr(context,"Es") . But how do I do so from a script located elsewhere ? Regards, Danny

There is no more threads to serve next requests so they're waiting (you may say that zope hangs in this situation, but in fact all it's threads are waiting for DB). You may install DeadlockDebugger product and you'll be able to see what your's Zope threads are really doing. Thanks. zope 3 invisibility

Hello everyone, I frequently blog about Zope, and recently posted a list of 10 reasons why I think Zope 3 is kind of invisible to the Python community (see my blog at http://blog.delaguardia.com.mx) One of the things that I talk about in that post is that the Zope community tends to interact more through its mailing lists than its blogs, as opposed to other so-called modern frameworks, like Django and Turbogears. I have been following the efforts of the Zope 3 developers and sometimes wonder why this invisibility effect takes place. That's why I decided to see if anyone on this list feels like commenting about this, or any of my other 10 points. I am very interested in the dynamics of the Zope community and the place of Zope in the larger Python community, and would be very thankful for any comments, here or on the blog. Thanks very much.
