Re: [Zope] Adding users programmatically!

> I figure the password is a field that contains the crypted pass and the crypting method. > > You insert only a plain password (without crypting) and i think that is the problem. > > You can review how Plone join new users into the acl_users folder. This is a follow up to my previous message in case my problem and solution can help someone somewhere :) Thank you, Manuel Saelices, for your response. However, the problem was not that I was passing the password as plain text. I made AccessControl/User.py spit out the password before and after the encryption process and it always stayed as plain text, even when adding users manually. After looking more closely at my Zope instance, I came across portal_registration and its API. I ended up using portal_registration.addMember. As an extra, it also creates the member's folder that contains their files and pictures (for use in forums). But why does addMember work and not userFolderAddUser, beats me. get_transaction().commit() does not commit : OOBTree
by Harm_Kirchhoff＠mail.digital.co.jp 14 Nov '03

I guess it is another newbie question, but I can not save data to the DB: I open the DB like this: self.st = FileStorage.FileStorage(self.mountedDB) self.db = DB(self.st) self.connection = self.db.open() self.dbroot = self.connection.root() self.dbroot = OOBTree() return (True,'db mounted:'+ self.mountedDB) Next I make a number of changes to self.dbroot: self.dbroot[CstNo] [FY] ['1'] ['E'] = {} self.dbroot[CstNo] [FY] ['1'] ['S'] = {} self.dbroot[CstNo] [FY] ['1'] ['accno'] = {} self.dbroot[CstNo] [FY] ['1'] ['acba' ] = {} self._p_changed = 1 get_transaction().commit() And then I close: get_transaction().commit() # commit any changes that may be pending. self.connection.close() self.db.close() self.st.close() When I open again and try verify whether the keys exist, using self.dbroot.has_key(CstNo) # for example they do not exist. Looking at the DB with a text editor to see what is in there, reveals that there is nothing. The entire program runs through without any error. HOWEVER, if I mark out the line: # self.dbroot = OOBTree() It all works according to plan !!! Does anybody have an idea what is wrong with my usage of the OOBTree ???

RE: Using an <dtml-if x>=y> statement with dates
by info＠grabthebasics.com 14 Nov '03

I am trying to include only those dates that are before a certain date. However, if the first one is before, all of the dates are included which is not correct. I will then build this on, so that only dates that are between a certain range are included. The code that i am using, is: (obviously StartingDate is a variable that is being defined each time in DZEvent) <dtml-with ItineraryEvents> <dtml-in expr="objectValues('DZEvent')" sort=StartingDate> <dtml-let divider="'2004/01/12'" start=StartingDate> <dtml-if " divider>start"> <dtml-let start=StartingDate> The Date is: <dtml-var StartingDate> </dtml-let> </dtml-if> </dtml-let> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> Any help on or off list greatly appreciated, Tom

RE: [Zope] Unicode ZPT and XML woes

Doh. FWIW, I bypassed the problem by removing 'goofy' characters (accented 'e' in this case) from the item/head field, but that doesn't guarantee the problem won't come back in the future. Is there any way I can enforce a certain charset in my forms, so the non-supported characters don't enter the system in the first place? And is there a way to see what character set a given string is in? -jim -----Original Message----- From: J Cameron Cooper [mailto:jccooper@jcameroncooper.com] Sent: Thursday, November 13, 2003 3:59 PM To: Jim Kutter Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Unicode ZPT and XML woes Jim Kutter wrote: >So I'm trying to write an XML RSS feed using Page Templates. > >I'm having problems where I pull metadata out of a catalog, and try to >use it as the item title for the feed > >-- >... ><item tal:repeat="item python: here.search.news_catalog({'post_date': >[here.ZopeTime()-1, here.ZopeTime()], 'post_date_usage': >'range:min:max', 'sort_on':'post_date', 'sort_order':'reverse'})"> >
> Title Here >
>... >
>-- > >I get >Error Type: UnicodeError >Error Value: ASCII decoding error: ordinal not in range(128) > >It seems that I'm getting trapped in unicode hell, as that item/head is >in ascii, and the ZPT is in unicode? > >I've tried every combination of encoding the head string (tuf8, utf16, >ascii) with either replace or ignore, with no luck. > >Aside from re-implenting the stream as a DTML or Python script what can >I do? > >I've already also tried the "LOCALIZER_USE_ZOPE_UNICODE=yes" suggestion >from the list archives. > > Hey, I've got that bug on my desk right now (along with a number of other unicode problems in the Zope core.) Problems with date format
by Andre Dourado 14 Nov '03

14 Nov '03

When I input a date in a DTML Form, I use the "%d/%m/%Y" format, but that date field must be stored in a MS SQL Server database in "%m/%d/%Y" format. I've tried to store that field using: <dtml-sqlvar date_field.strftime('%m/%d/%Y') type=string> but an error ocurred. How can I do that ? Thanks for any help.

Thanks, but I'm not keen on the whole site customize thing, I'd prefer not to muck with a Python setup for such a small part of the site. If Guido and Martin and the like frown upon it, why did they put that facility in there ;) ? -jim -----Original Message----- From: Dieter Maurer [mailto:dieter@handshake.de] Sent: Thursday, November 13, 2003 4:02 PM To: Jim Kutter Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Unicode ZPT and XML woes Jim Kutter wrote at 2003-11-13 11:08 -0500: > So I'm trying to write an XML RSS feed using Page Templates. > > I'm having problems where I pull metadata out of a catalog, and try to > use it as the item title for the feed > > -- > ... > <item tal:repeat="item python: here.search.news_catalog({'post_date': > [here.ZopeTime()-1, here.ZopeTime()], 'post_date_usage': > 'range:min:max', 'sort_on':'post_date', 'sort_order':'reverse'})"> >
> Title Here >
> ... >
> -- > > I get > Error Type: UnicodeError > Error Value: ASCII decoding error: ordinal not in range(128) > > It seems that I'm getting trapped in unicode hell, as that item/head is > in ascii, and the ZPT is in unicode? Something in your page was Unicode (therefore, ZPT tries to convert everything to Unicode; this is right) and something is non Unicode but it is non-Ascii, too. This gives you the error above. You can convert the non-Unicode non-Ascii into Unicode explicitly with the "unicode" builtin (you have to specify the correct encoding of your string). I have a different solution. However, many Python Gods (e.g. Guido and Martin) frown on it and think about ways to remove it from Python. Python has a "default encoding". By default, it is "ASCII". However, you can change it during startup (in your "sitecustomize.py") with "sys.setdefaultencoding(your_prefered_encoding)" to "your_prefered_encoding". After startup, "setdefaultencoding" is removed from "sys" (which is good). I live in a "latin-1" part of the world and therefore chose this as my default encoding. -- Dieter
