ZopeTime() trouble.
by Robert Restad 13 Nov '03

13 Nov '03

I have two versions of Zope running... My clients version, which is Linux and an original Zope 1.10.3 ... (Awww... old, I know)... My local version, which is Win32 and Zope 1.10.3 ... (Old version, new installation, aye...) Now, after fighting an uneven battle against a Win32 installation of MySQL-Python/MySQLDA etc. for some time, I finally succeeded to import the application to my workstation. And incredibly enough, most of it worked, which I thoguht was too good to be true... eh ... Now, yes - really. It was too good to be true, because parts of the application pages proved to fail due to a couple of minor lines in the code... Now, it seems to be the following lines, related to ZopeTime and which format to use... (This actually works on the Zope 1.10 linux installation, but not on my Win32 installation)... And another line... Now, being the true Zope (python) newbie as I am, I admit this looks pretty cool. And logic. But the logic stops working right about why it works on one Zope 1.10.3 installation but not on the other. Is this ZopeTime() thing calling a function in Python? Is it a chance that my Python installation (Zope 1.10.3 comes with Python 1.5 eh?) is not the same as the one on the Linux box? ... Now, I think I have installed Python 2.2 on this workstation. (Any way I can check which Python version Zope calls except decoding those cryptic "innermost traceback" -messages? Any ideas? Workarounds? Also... would any of you guys happen to have documentation to Zope 1.10, eventually where I can find it? What I have is pretty limited, and my client doesnt really understand the words "hard to do", "obsolete" and "no documentation" ... he keeps repeating "you fix, you smart, you computer guy, right?" all the time ... Best regards, Robert.

Most efficient use of url rewriting and virtual host monster.
by Alec Munro 12 Nov '03

12 Nov '03

Hi List, I have a problem at the moment, that is mostly cosmetic, but quite annoying. I host a few domains on a single zope instance, in different folders. For example, domain xyz is mapped to: ip/folder/xyz. So far, I have not really grasped the virtual host root concept. I use the absolute_url method quite a lot in my scripts, and because of these two things, I end up with lots of urls that look like: http://ip/folder/xyz/folder/xyz/folder/xyz/folder/xyz/someScript I guess what I'm really looking for is a good explanation for virtual host root, as well some insight in how zope generates urls. I hope that was clear enough, it's been a while since I looked at these things. Thanks, Alec Munro

I know Postgres to work very well with Zope. The only problem I've ever seen is that frequent use of the "refresh" function will sometimes cause connection leakages, and I'm not even sure this isn't just a general behaviour. Gadfly also interacts well, but frankly I wouldn't use it for anything other than demonstration or the most trivial of applications. (Which is its job description, after all.) If you must have information available in some external relational database, Postgres will usually work every bit as well as MySQL. I'm sure there are ways to transfer data between the two (if you already have data in one) if that's in question. (And since you appear to have good reasons, I'll withhold the usual tract about where I think data should usually be stored (hint: ZODB). If you care, you can look it up in the list archives.) I don't know about the errors you get with the MySQL DA: perhaps the list or the author can help clear those up and solve the whole problem. --jcc >> I am a fairly new user to zope, and although I know the basics, I am >> >>> having problems trying to catalog a zsql database. Dead brain with ZTUtils TreeMaker/SimpleTreeMaker
by Gilles Lenfant 12 Nov '03

12 Nov '03

Hi, I didn't find any documentation about ZTUtils TreeMaker/SimpleTreeMaker classes. There's not the shadow of a doc about this in the Zope help, in zope.org, even in google. Only Batch is documented. So I've tried to hack the ZTUtils package and understood some of its features (like LazyFilter, make_query, make_hidden_input and some others) but I'm stuck understanding how to play with TreeMaker, SimpleTreeMaker, SimpleTreenode and related feature. And of course stuck integrating those in templates. Any pointer to docs and examples somewhere ? Mant thanks in advance. -- Gilles

SQL stored proc returns XML text; how to display in ZPT?
by David Mitchell 12 Nov '03

12 Nov '03

Hello everyone, I'm certain I'm missing something trivial, but it's getting late and I'm just about brain dead... I've got a SQL stored procedure that returns an XML string. I've written a ZSQL Method "dump_xml" that calls the stored proc; when I test it I get the XML string (although the formatting gets messed up when the browser tries to display it). There's no parameters passed to "dump_xml". How do I get Zope to return the XML data in a page? WIthin a ZPT page, I've tried: <span tal:replace="here/dump_xml" /> This returns something like <Shared.DC.ZRDB.Results.Results instance at 0x9001394>. Obviously I can see dump_xml based on this error message; I'm just trying to render the wrong thing. <span tal:replace="here/dump_xml()" /> This returns a key error What am I doing wrong? I'll happily use DTML, if anyone can give a solution. I just want to get this XML page published and go home! Thanks in advance Dave M.

Understanding the types of permission
by Roberto Campainha 12 Nov '03

12 Nov '03

Hi there, I´m trying to configure the permissions for a Zope database and I´m pretty lost. As you know, the Permission column of the Security page contains a large number of permissions listed. Although some of them are intuitive, the most part of the permissions need a further description, so I can feel more confident to decide whether to turn it on or off to the users. Does anybody know where I can find a document describing each type of permission? I´ve tried the system Help already, but it contains only a general description of roles and permission. Thanks in advance, Roberto Campainha Siemens Test Team --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Adding users programmatically!
by Ibrahim Mubarak 12 Nov '03

12 Nov '03

Hi, I am trying to add users using a Script(Python) in Zope. The acl_users folder in question is inside a Plone site. I have another acl_users folder in the Root directory containing only managers. Here is the script I am using: <CODE> if user_pswd != user_conf: return 0 #Roles MUST be a sequence strUserRole = str(user_role) if user_role == strUserRole: user_role = [user_role] context.acl_users.userFolderAddUser(user_name, user_pswd, user_role,['']) return 1 </CODE> user_name, user_pswd, user_conf, and user_role are all parameters passed in from a page template. All bindings left at their default values. After I run this script, the user shows up in the user folder with all the right info but the user can't log in. I tried adding a user to the user folder at the Root (using this script), but the same thing happens. The user can log in only if I go to the user folder manually and change the passward. I also tried to use userFolderEditUser after the add, but it still did not work. I made lib/python/AccessControl/User.py spit out the password upon the creation of the user, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I looked all day at the code and the only thing that I figured out is that isAnonymousUser() in MembershipTool.py is always returning true when the new user is trying to log in! Anyone experienced the same thing? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. BTW: Here is my setup: Zope 2.6.1 w/ python 2.1.3 CMFPlone 1.0.1 __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? cron
by Chris Herrnberger 12 Nov '03

12 Nov '03

Greetings; Was reading up on zope labs on who to use cron and wget to call zope functions and Im almost there. What I would like to do is set a cron job to pack the db and flush the cache on a regular basis. Using the following URL on a test machine I can get there almost; http://XXXXX:xxxx@localhost:8181/Control_Panel/Database/manage_cacheGC but I am at a loss on how to activate the 'minimize' function as I dont know how to call it. Same scenario for 'pack' in ~/Database/manage Any clues would be greatly appreciated, or direction towards some docs on an alternative way of routinely packing the db and cleaning the cache.. Best and many thanks /ch

RE: [Zope] Linux distributions for Zope Servers

Gentoo doesn't have an 'update' system in the same way as Redhat et al, but it does have an update mechanism I find I prefer over anything Redhat or Mandrake offer. Gentoo really is a "comfortable" distribution (meaning some may not find it so), but takes time to set up. -----Original Message----- From: Heimo Laukkanen [mailto:huima@iki.fi] Sent: Thursday, November 06, 2003 10:23 To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Linux distributions for Zope Servers So Suse is preferred choise for atleast few Zopistas. But does Suse have a good updating system similar to Redhat Network? I'm just thinking about maintenance and management of multiple servers and also cases where potential customers manage their servers on their own - possibly with very limited Linux knowledge and experience. Is there anything else comparable to RH Network or Mac Os X support and ease of maintenance? .. and that is also reliable and has a future ... -- -huima _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )
