xml.dom.minidom
by Patrick W. Fraley 08 Sep '03

Hi List, I am trying to use the xml.dom.minidom praseString routine. It works fine under normal python (2.2), but when I try and runn it under the binary distribution of Zope (Python 2.1) I get teh following error message: Traceback (most recent call last): File "mM4Connection.py", line 118, in ? dom_parser = parseString(xmldata) File "/opt/Zope-2.6.1/lib/python2.1/xml/dom/minidom.py", line 915, in parseString return _doparse(pulldom.parseString, args, kwargs) File "/opt/Zope-2.6.1/lib/python2.1/xml/dom/minidom.py", line 901, in _doparse events = apply(func, args, kwargs) File "/opt/Zope-2.6.1/lib/python2.1/xml/dom/pulldom.py", line 301, in parseString parser = xml.sax.make_parser() File "/opt/Zope-2.6.1/lib/python2.1/xml/sax/__init__.py", line 88, in make_parser raise SAXReaderNotAvailable("No parsers found", None) xml.sax._exceptions.SAXReaderNotAvailable: No parsers found Now I though all these modules (including a parser) are part of a standard python distribution. How can I get this to work? Or is there a better way to use XML under Zope? Do I have to install some extra Packages? Zope hangs
by Steve Sullivan 08 Sep '03

Hi, I'm running Zope 2.6.1 on Redhat 9, and am working through the online Zope Book. Roughly every hour or so, the Zope server hangs and I have to restart it. What would cause this? I'm considering Zope for a financial institution's internal processing ... is Zope really reliable and secure enough? RE: [Zope] ZODB or MySQL for form data?

Other data, like form data, I consider to be in a separate category - Zope helps me to obtain it, but then it is just some (generally non-zope) data that is not specifically related to the site. Such data I normally to put into a relational database. Obviously there is no one right answer, and if you are going to get just a small amount of data, and you already know how you are going to work with it, ZODB is fine. If you are mainly going to display it, and Zope's normal machinery will sort, filter, and combine it the way you want, stick with the ZODB. But if you will get a lot of data, and especially if you need the most flexibility in working with it later, by all means use a relational database. I had one project where I stored form responses in a relational database, used DTML sql queries to produce reports that I published with Zope. Later when we were asked to do more analysis, I used Tidy to turn the Zope reports into XML, then used xslt and svg to analyze the data and produce charts - strange, but it turned out to be the best approach in this case (I had to merge in some more data that was not in electronic form, and did not fit the existing table structures) To sum up, I recommend using a relational database for most jobs like this, but be flexible! Cheers, Tom P

Repeated (growing) URL elements....
by Celula Research 08 Sep '03

Zopistas: If there is a simple form named "Form_1" and created within the web ZMI in a DTMLDocument object, like: <dtml-if mensaje_error> <dtml-var mensaje_error> </dtml-if> <form action="product/validate_Form_1" method="post"> <input type="text" name="account"> <input type="submit" name="submit" value="Enter >"> </form> I have also built a Zope product which works fine, it is instantiated in the same Folder as "Form_1" with the id "product" and it provides the method "validate_Form_1" which is something quite simple to validate errors: def validate_Form_1(self,REQUEST,RESPONSE): "Code to validate form1" if not REQUEST.account: self.REQUEST['msg_error']="Account code is required" elif len(self.REQUEST['account']) < 1: self.REQUEST['msg_error']="Account lenght < 1 " elif len(self.REQUEST['account']) > 6: self.REQUEST['msg_error']="Account lenght > 6" REQUEST=self.REQUEST return self.Form_1(REQUEST) My problem is, everytime the Form_1 is returned from the validate_Form_1, the URL in the browser starts growing like: http://localhost:8080/Folder/Form_1 <--- Initial call, works OK http://localhost:8080/Folder/product/Form_1 <---First validation http://localhost:8080/Folder/product/product/Form_1 <----2nd pass. and so on.... I want the .../product/product/... not to start growing with every pass through the product's methods. I want the return, to print in the browser's URL the actual path to the Form_1, if possible, without the "product" .... What would be the way of doing that? I have tried RESPONSE.redirect instead of just "return self.Form_1(REQUEST)" with absolute_url() and using things like REQUEST['HTTP_REFERER'] but in those cases I am not able to pass any parameters back (REQUEST) Your assistance, comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated...Thanks in advance Edward.

very slow zcatalog
by Shawn Day 08 Sep '03

Hi there, I am a relative newbie to zope and have a question about the zcatalog. I have a directory filled with nearly 6000 Plone folders. Each of these folders holds information about a business in my town and they are contained in a zcatalog. The problem is that a search generally takes about 50 seconds. A search for a business can be done by Business Category, Business Type, Location, Keywords or a combination of any of these. The business category and business type are both keyword indexes, the location is a field index and the keywords is a text index. Results are sorted by a searchValue which is a field index. The query is shown below: tal:define="results python:here.businessCatalog(meta_type='Plone Folder', location_d=location, types=type, keywords=key_words, sub_types=sub_type, sort_on='searchValue', sort_limit=30)" In my attempts to speed this process up I have made sure the cache is large enough (8000) and have tried turning on subtransactions and setting the threshold to 10000. I am yet to taste success with this problem. If anyone can help me speed up the search I would be enormously greatful. If you would like to see the problem yourself you can at: www.regionlink.com.au <http://www.regionlink.com.au/> Shawn.

Re: Search and Replace in Zope

Hi, you could use the following patch: http://www.zope.org/Members/shh/ReplaceSupport I haven't tested it because I don't know if it works with the last zope and I think that the long and boring way is safer: 1- Use the find tab from the ZMI to get the documents with the desired string 2- Open each document with ExternalEditor 3- Use search and replace of your favorite text editor I think that implementing a Search and Replace support is dangerous because once you do the change, it's difficult to know where it was excecuted. But it's up-to-you to make this decision. Regards, Josef

(from your original message): > sort_on='searchValue', Sorting is usually the slowest part of zcatalog searches. First, try removing this line, see if the search comes up faster. (maybe a lot faster.) If so, at least you have confirmed that the problem is sorting. If that's the problem, I'm suspicious of 'searchValue'. For sort_on, you should pass the name of one of your catalog indexes. > The page that has this search is actually on the directory page of our > site. www.regionlink.com.au/Members if you would like to have a look. yep, it's rather slow... but i can't tell much from looking at it. I don't have your source code. What version of Zope are you running? 2.6.1 or greater should do zcatalog sorts faster than previous zope versions, and 2.7 beta should be faster still (I have not tried 2.7). telnetlib script help
by Jack Coates 07 Sep '03

07 Sep '03

Hi, I'm fair-to-middlin' with Perl and have no Python knowledge. I'm trying to do a Python script which grabs some information from a telnet interface on the same machine: import sys import telnetlib HOST = "localhost" tn = telnetlib.Telnet(HOST, 9090) tn.write("title ?\n") tn.write("album ?\n") tn.write("artist ?\n") tn.write("exit\n") print tn.read_all() That works from the command line (well, I'll be figuring out how to regex-prettify the output later), but doesn't work from Zope: I've enabled import of sys and telnetlib, but it now pops up auth dialogs repeatedly. Hitting cancel makes it say " Error Value: You are not allowed to access write in this context". What am I doing wrong? I'm open to making it an external method, but when I tried to do so it quit working from the command line. thanks, -- Jack Coates Monkeynoodle: A Scientific Venture...
