Hello all, Does anyone know how to change a role with python? I want to have some of the visitors to my site have a different role than Anonymous without having to login to the site. Thanks for any help! Andrew R.

starting zope with su instead of -u

This feels like a huge newbie question, but I'm starting to lose hair and I was surprised not to find anything helpful in the archives. I want to try out DirectoryStorage. I gather you're not supposed to use the -u option and obviously I don't want to run as root. So I use something like su - -c START_COMMAND zope But then I get that message about how I can't run zope as root and should read the SETUID doc. But I'm not running zope as root and the SETUID doc is distinctly unhelpful with respect to using anything other than -u to drop privileges. Is there something basic I'm missing? I'm running 2.6.1 on Gentoo, if it matters. Thanks in advance, Dylan

how do i format the value of a lines property in a "Filesystem Properties Object" correct? eg: multivalues:lines=value1, value2, value3 results in just one line, not three... ZPublisher.Converters.py: file2lines wants to split on \n but no newlines are allowed in a .props file Thanks, Michael

xml-rpc problem

Hi again, finally I've got Zope working with COM, thanks to Andy McKay, Volker Wend and Dmitry Dembinsky. I have written an external method to convert word/excel documents to PDF. This external method is stored on our windows server, and it runs fine. My problem is that, if I run it through xml-rpc from our linux server, it works only if I have run the windows external method first. My english is not very good, so here's an example of what I mean: I start both servers: first I access http://linuxserver/some/dir/word2pdf it fails with TypeError, too many arguments. Pack Zodb problem

Hi all, Every time I use the pack Zodb option, ZOPE creates a ZODB backup file. My Zodb is currently 2.1GB in size. To pack ZODB I will require around 2 GB of additional space in the server which i am unable to spare. Hence the pack command is failing. Is there any way to pack ZODB without creation of backup file? Invalid Date-Time String error

I when trying to add a ZClass product with Date property, I keep getting an Invalid Date-Time Error. I am running Zope 2.6. This ZClass product was created back in Zope 2.4 or so. SQL-Transaction

Hello I've something like: <dtml-call "insert(REQUEST)"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect(REQUEST['myform'])"> In the myform I'd like to show the values I've inserted with a ZSQL-Method. This form uses also a ZSQL-Method, to show the data inserted before. The problem is, that sometimes the values are not shown in the form. When I reload the page, the values are there. How do I asure, that the transaction is made to the db, before I show the form? Regards Dieter

How to make a custom zmi to edit content?

Hi, I was thinking about making a admin interface that pulls the content from the management interface and displays it in the template context it comes from. I know how to do most of it but am lacking ZMI understanding of the situation. Does anybody know of a resource on how to access the zope data and open it up for editing then saving? xml-rpc and acquisition

Hello, I'm trying to implement a object repository based on Zope, that I'm accessing via XML-RPC calls. Is there a way for obtaining from XML-RPC the same behaviour as the dtml-var tag in terms of accessing something similar to the DMTL namespace, where <dtml-var something> called on an object returns: 1. the property "something" of the object, or, if it doesn't find it, 2. the property "something" via acquisition, or if it doesn't find it, 3. the property "something" in the request, or if it doesn't find it, 4. the result of the method "something()" of the object, or if it doesn't find it, 5. the result of the method "something()" via acquisition I'd like to obtain the same behaviour when calling the XML-RPC method "something" on an object Thanks for any hint, pointer to doc etc. Michele Ruberl

setting null date in SQL

I cannot seem to set date to NULL in MS SQL with INSERT but it seems to work on UPDATE with this code: Insert sets date to 1/1/1900 <dtml-if "AppDelDate==''"> AppDelDate=NULL, <dtml-else> '<dtml-var name="AppDelDate" sql_quote>', </dtml-if> Trying this request to the group again since I have not found a solution.
