<dtml-in>, batches and <dtml-unless previous-sequence-start-number>
by Derek Basch 29 May '03

Hello, I am attempting to build a: <<< 1 2 (3) 4 5 6 >>> style batch record control using DTML. I have gotten everything working except for the links to the first and last batches in the previous-batches and next-batches mapping sequences. <<< and >>> respectively. I am able to sucessfully test for previous-sequence-start-number in the affirmative (<dtml-if p.s.s.n>). However, a test in the negative seems to be broken (<dtml-unless p.s.s.n>). Such as in the snippet below. In other words, a hyperlink is inserted if I use <dtml-if> but not if I use <dtml-unless>. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong or is this a broken feature? <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('batch_number', 0)"> <dtml-in expr="SQL(q=q)" previous size=bat_size start=query_start> <dtml-in previous-batches mapping> <dtml-unless previous-sequence-start-number> <a href="<dtml-var document_id><dtml-var sequence-query>query_start=<dtml-var batch-start-number>"><<<</a> </dtml-unless> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('current_batch_number', _['sequence-length'] + 1)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('batch_number', _.int(batch_number) + 1)"> <dtml-unless sequence-start> , </dtml-unless> <dtml-if expr="batch_number >= current_batch_number - 10"> <a href="<dtml-var document_id><dtml-var sequence-query>query_start=<dtml-var batch-start-number>"><dtml-var batch_number></a> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </dtml-in> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('batch_number', _.int(batch_number) + 1)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('current_batch_number', _.int(batch_number))"> <dtml-var current_batch_number> <dtml-in expr="SQL(q=q)" next size=bat_size start=query_start> <dtml-in next-batches mapping> <dtml-unless next-sequence-start-number> <a href="<dtml-var document_id><dtml-var sequence-query>query_start=<dtml-var batch-start-number>"><<<</a> </dtml-unless> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('batch_number', _.int(batch_number) + 1)"> <dtml-unless sequence-start> , </dtml-unless> <dtml-if expr="batch_number <= current_batch_number + 10"> <a href="<dtml-var document_id><dtml-var sequence-query>query_start=<dtml-var batch-start-number>"><dtml-var batch_number></a> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </dtml-in> Thanks, Derek Basch __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? First you have to decide what HTML you want to produce. Then you can work out how to generate it. I take it that you want something like this - <tr><td><input name='name1'></td></tr> <tr><td><input name='name2'></td></tr> <tr><td><input name='name2'></td></tr> This is easy - you just put it into the loop you already have - <dtml-in expr="_.range(3)"> <tr><td><input type="text" name="pbtemp[sequence-index]" size="6"></td></tr> </dtml-in> There is no sense trying tp generate anything if you do not know - at least have a good idea of - the results you want. Always work out the html first. If this is not what you had in mind, then please communciate the output you want. Cheers, Tom P

Accessing individual items within a list
by McDonnell, Larry 29 May '03

29 May '03

Hi, I am starting to use lists within my forms. I can create them but I am having a hard time trying to find the syntax to get a single item from the list to store in a database. I have been able to create a list doing the following: <dtml-in expr="_.range(3)"> <input type="text" name="pbtemp[sequence-index]" size="6"> </dtml-in> If I display <dtml-var pbtemp[sequence-index], I will see ['11', '22', '33']. I need to store each variable in the three seperate rows in a table. Row1 pbtemp[1] Row2 pbtemp[2] Row3 pbtemp[3] I believe I need to use another <dtml-in expr="_.range(3)"> statement but I am coming up short in the correct syntax. Any suggestions or pointer will be a big help. Thanks in advance. RE: [Zope] Newbie: Location of External method files

If someone > could explain how Zope searches for the external methods, I would > appreciate this greatly. > Zope looks for External Methods in the Extensions directory. Different developers could create enternal methods with the same names as long as they were in different __Zope__ folders (I mean the Zope objects, not the code for them in the Extensions directory in the file system), and if their Python code were in different python files in the Extensions directory. It is good practice, IMHO, to use the code in the Extensions directory only to invoke the actual Python code that does the real work. That code should live, I think, outside the Zope directory tree. That way you do not have to remember to copy it to any new Zope installation. For the function in the Extensions directory to find the real code, the real code needs to be on the Python path, preferably in its own package. There are many ways to get your code on the Python path. I personally like to use *.pth files, but there are several other methods. The main point to remember is that you need it to be on the Python path used by your Zope installation, not the Python path used by any other Python interpreters you may have on your system. This has bitten people from time to time. Cheers, Tom P

Zope undo functionality (Slightly OT)
by Etienne Labuschagne 29 May '03

29 May '03

Sorry, this is slightly off topic, but just had to share this SPOT-ON description of Zope's undo functionality from the author of our custom CMF tutorial: This function should be used sparingly. A full actions history is kept and any mistake can be undone. Once a mistake is realised that cannot be undone by fixing it in the edit box, click Undo. The actions history's latest entries are at the top of the list, so if the mistake was made and it was realised immediately, that entry should still be at the top of the list, and the description next to it should give a reasonable indication as to whether this was the offending action. Simply tick its box and click Undo, and that entry will be reversed as if it had never happened. "Undo's" can also be undone, and the undo of an undo can be undone as well, so every Undo that is performed appears at the top of the Undo list, and can again be undone. In fact, it can get so confusing that it becomes one's undoing... That is why this function should be used sparingly!

RE: [Zope] Zope an X server

I have three machines running Zope 2.6.1 with Plone on OS X Server 10.2.6. System startup and Zope on my 500 Mhz Powerbook are slower than on my 500 Mhz desktop machine. My third desktop machine running Zope is a 1.25 GHZ DP, and startup time is approx 88 seconds. How does that compare with your 1 GHZ Powerbook and your Linux box? (Just out of curiousity.) X Serve should be better than any of these, especially on the bus speed and cache end. But I've no personal experience with Linux. Re: RE: [Zope] Another import doesn't find the module
by Stacy Roberts Ladnier 29 May '03

Tom's solution has not worked. But he has offered me more help tomorrow to find a solution. >>Why not create a single >>product that can instantiate itself (or subobjects) more than one way? The product I am creating is more like an application. It has container objects at the top, and several subfolders that contain hundreds of objects that make up a 'record'. I guess you can say I have tons of data models to go in this application. My whole problem is trying to get things to instantiate more than one way. Once a user has created a record of type #1, he must have the ability to go back and add an extension of type A. In doing this, It alters the way type #1 initially existed. I can't force the user to create a record of tye #1 with the type A extension up front. If only it were that easy, I wouldn't be having such a pain. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dylan Reinhardt <zope(a)dylanreinhardt.com> Date: Wednesday, May 28, 2003 3:43 pm Subject: Re: RE: [Zope] Another import doesn't find the module > On Wed, 2003-05-28 at 12:33, Stacy Roberts Ladnier wrote: > > > > The line I had that read > > > > from Products.Resources.FGDC import profile > > > > failed. > > > > Before class1 of DISTINFO.py, I tried the above statement and > recieve > > a 'can't import name profile'. > > > > > > However, this line works like a charm: > > > > from Products.Resources.FGDC import DISTRIB > > > > and is located directly under the above line. This is not my experience. I use it on OS X Server 10.2.6 and find it quite fast. My colleague just upgraded from some version of windoze server to OS X 10.2.6 (not server) and experienced a huge speed boost. It is "boring slow" compared to what? What machine models, software versions, and platforms are you comparing? Is this personal experience or heresay? Version problems
by Cliff Ford 29 May '03

29 May '03

An eternity ago (20 May) I followed the exchange initiated by Ken Causey on problems in saving Versions. Having updated to the latest Zope version (2.6.2b1) I did not anticipate similar problems but regret to report I have suffered them. I am out of the hole and don't need help but thought it might be useful to report a few facts: I spent an evening making extensive revisions to a development site under version control - mostly moving folders and revising menus. I am pretty sure I was the only active user. Happy with may changes I saved them and left Version control (no error messages, everything apparently normal). None of the changes were visible to normal users! Out of Version control all the changes were marked as locked. In Version control all of the changes were visible. Saving produced the message "Nothing to Save". Very frustrating, and easy to understand Ken's swearing never to use Versions again. I got out of the hole by exporting the entire site, which is fortunately in a folder one level down from root. (I think I must have been in Version control but can't swaer to that.) I renamed the problem folder and imported the exported folder. That did the trick - I had all the changes I had made. Phew! Whilst poking around for a solution I noticed that my Version was not owned by me! I have a colleague who looks after hardware and software installation, the apache front end, rewrite rules and so on. A few weeks ago we decided to rename the site folder and he did that because it was associated with the rewrite rules. It turns out he probably did a copy and paste + rename to creat the folder with the new name whilst the old folder still existed. He seems to have become the owner of the new branch and all its sub-items. I don't know if this is the source of the problem with Versions, but I too am reluctant to use Version control again. Cliff
