standard_error_message frustrations
by Cameron Laird 08 Mar '03

08 Mar '03

Let me get this straight: to work as desired, a standard_error_message must be a DTML Method, correct, but not a Python Script? Standard_error_message isn't powerful enough to quiet Zope about what it knows, right? That is, even if standard_error_message contains, for example, some minimally short text, clients will still see the initial "Site Error ..." and trailing "Troubleshooting suggestions ..."? There's no way to eliminate those? I'm surprised I don't find more in the archives about standard_error_message. I conclude either: 1. other developers don't find exception-handling as important as I regard it; or 2. I don't understand how to search the archives properly; or 3. both.

Easy one ...
by D. Rick Anderson 08 Mar '03

08 Mar '03

Ok .. this should be really easy but it's driving me nuts. How to I set an attribute on a variable when it's being rendered inside of a function? Here's what I mean: <dtml-var "webClient('http://192.168.0.1/getSqlResults?query=' + querystring)"> I need to have the variable querystring render with url_quote_plus, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to set it. TIA Rick

RE: [Zope] Html2pdf problems
by Samir Mishra 08 Mar '03

Can I use html2pdf in Win XP? I used the directions in the 'how-to' but get an error when I try and generate the PDF. Something along the lines of "Internet Explorer cannot open the site html2pdf" :(. I've tried it a number of different ways, including having the full path to ghtmldoc in the Python External Method. TIA. Zope 2.6 & ZCTextIndex Help?
by Michael Lewis 08 Mar '03

08 Mar '03

I am currently running Zope 2.44, Python 2.13, and Apache 1.3.22 on a RedHat 8 server which is pretty stable. I need to upgrade to at least 2.6 to take advantage of ZCTextIndex, as I want to have the ability to do exact phrase searches. Also, any pointers as to how to reindex after installing would be appreciated. What is the most stable combination of Zope 2.6/Python/Apache? I had to use Apache 1.3.22 at the time because .23 and .24 had cookie handling problems. Michael -- Michael Lewis <michael(a)nichestaffing.com> NicheStaffing.com

Zope2.6.1 and python2.2.2
by Ruslan Spivak 08 Mar '03

08 Mar '03

Hello, zope users! Does anybody have any objections to running Zope2.6.1 with python 2.2.2 instead of python2.1.3? Can this cause troubles? I need to use pyuno, but it's latest release works and builds with python2.2.2, so i want to know if it's OK to use zope 2.6.1with python2.2.2 and there are no side effects of using them. Your help is very appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ruslan

RE: [Zope] Where does Zope store files...
by Samir Mishra 08 Mar '03

And, in case someone is interested, for WIN NT systems, I use the following batch file to archive datasets and start up the Zope service (filenames will differ, as well as paths, obviously) - ======================================================= @echo off set PLONE=C:\Applications\Programming\Plone set SSL=%PLONE%\openssl set PYTHON=%PLONE%\Python set ZOPE=%PLONE%\Zope set PYTHONHOME=%PYTHON% set PATH=%PYTHON%;%SSL%;%ZOPE%;%PATH% set INSTANCE_HOME=%PLONE%\Data set HTTP_MANAGE=8080 REM ---------------------- REM Debug mode REM ---------------------- set Z_DEBUG_MODE=1 set ZOPE_SECURITY_POLICY=PYTHON REM ---------------------- REM get todays date and time into an environment variable REM ---------------------- set TIMENOW=%TIME: =0% set TIMENOW=%TIMENOW::=.% set TIMENOW=%TIMENOW:.=% set TODAY=%DATE% set TODAY=%TODAY:~6,4%%TODAY:~3,2%%TODAY:~0,2% set TIMENOW=%TODAY%%TIMENOW% REM ---------------------- REM Move the log file REM ---------------------- move /y %INSTANCE_HOME%\Var\z2s.log %INSTANCE_HOME%\Var\%TIMENOW%-z2s.log set EC=%ERRORLEVEL% if %EC% GTR 0 GOTO EXIT REM ---------------------- REM copy the object DB REM ---------------------- copy %INSTANCE_HOME%\Var\Data.fs %INSTANCE_HOME%\Var\%TIMENOW%-Data.fs set EC=%ERRORLEVEL% if %EC% GTR 0 GOTO EXIT REM ---------------------- REM copy the object DB index REM ---------------------- copy %INSTANCE_HOME%\Var\Data.fs.index %INSTANCE_HOME%\Var\%TIMENOW%-Data.fs.index set EC=%ERRORLEVEL% if %EC% GTR 0 GOTO EXIT :START echo Starting Service ..................... %PYTHON%\python.exe %ZOPE%\z2s.py -X -y 80 -y 8080 -y 443 -Y 8443 -f 8421 INSTANCE_HOME=%PLONE%\Data HTTP_MANAGE=%HTTP_MANAGE% -D %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 :EXIT ======================================================= Since WinNT will lock Data.fs after ZServer has been started, copying/moving of files has to be done before the service is started. Obviously, I start ZServer from a batch script, and don't use the service. The procedure makes a backup of the data and the log each time the service is started. You may end up with a lot of LARGE backup files. I usually use the 200* wildcard on files to automate the archiving/deleting of these files, but in a separate script. Your backup can be trashed if something goes wrong mid-rsync, or soon after the rsync. Also, rsync sometimes aborts if the file is changed while it is processing it, with insufficient guarantees about the state of the file it leaves behind.
