data manager object - seeking comments
by Dylan Reinhardt 16 Jan '03

16 Jan '03

Howdy Zopers, The last year or so, I've been making extensive use of a drop-in data manager class in my products. It started off as a caching database connector and at some point I decided it was a better tool without the database layer. :-) It was designed to simplify the process of storing, optimizing, and extracting complex (i.e. "Pythonish") data so that it isn't necessary to translate back and forth between OO-style data and SQL-style data. It's basically a big mapping with recordset caching, selection/aggregation mechanisms, data typing and multi-level sorting built in. I wouldn't say it's optimal for *all* kinds of data, but it sure seems to work well at organizing the kind of data you might kick up in a mid-size business app. My last several apps don't have a scratch of SQL in them anywhere. :-) Anyway, it's my baby so I've lost perspective on it and don't really have any idea whether this is a redundant and/or stupid idea or if this is the kind of thing I should be releasing to the community. Some comments and perspective on this would be greatly appreciated. Please respond directly & I'll update the list with whether or not I'll be making a release announcement. Thanks in advance for any (seriously, any) feedback, Dylan

Proxy methods chaning proxy roles
by Jay, Dylan 16 Jan '03

16 Jan '03

I have a method (A) which creates another method (B) to be executed later by Xron. Since it will be executed later the new method needs proxy permission (Xron runs things as anonymous). That means that method A needs to set the proxy role on B. However this doesn't seem to be possible since the security machinery seems to check the users roles not the proxy roles of method A. Is there anyway out of this mess? ---- Dylan Jay mailto:djay@avaya.com Avaya Communication Tel: +61-2-9352-8642 Level 3, 123 Epping Road FAX: +61-2-9352 9224 Nth Ryde NSW 2113 Mobile: 0409 606 171 AUSTRALIA

Can someone help me with this. I just want to run the salescheck sql method and use a field 'OFFICENAME' in the result set in the message. It is a simple task and it's been bugging me far to long. Thank for your help. orderrecordok = context.salescheck(locationid = request.LOCID, RECID = request.ID) if not orderrecordok: return context.REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect("%s?message=%s" % (context.REQUEST.URL1,' Sorry the Order ' + salescheck.OFFICENAME + ' is not yours'))

IE error
by Patrick Price 16 Jan '03

16 Jan '03

I've been getting the following screen (page cannot be displayed, so I view source and that's what I've included here) from Zope after submitting forms; or trying to view documents. This happens intermittantly. I can switch to netscape and don't get a blank page, I can see the "500 Internal server error". Right now, I'm using a dtml-sendmail form which is giving me this page ONLY in IE, and if I hit refresh, the proper output appears (no 500 error). Has anyone else seen similar behavior? -Patrick Price <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2 Final//EN"> <html> <head> <style> a:link {font:8pt/11pt verdana; color:red} a:visited {font:8pt/11pt verdana; color:#4e4e4e} </style> <meta HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" Content="text-html; charset=Windows-1252"> <title>HTTP 500 Internal server error</title> </head> <script>

DTML Question Continued
by beno 16 Jan '03

16 Jan '03

This is becoming far_more_complex than I anticipated. I would love to be able to do something like this: <dtml-let lang="REQUEST.get('HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE','en-us')"> <dtml-in objectValues> <dtml-let folder=id> <dtml-let langShort=lang[2:]> <dtml-var langShort> <dtml-if expr="folder==lang"> <dtml-var lang> </dtml-if> </dtml-let> </dtml-let> </dtml-in> </dtml-let> but there are two problems here: 1) Apparently I can't slice in DTML; 2) The expression "folder==lang" evaluates the literal strings, not the variables. The second problem is probably far less difficult than the first. The first seems to necessitate I do this as a Python script. That being the case, it seems logical to do the objectValues iteration in the same script. So, how do I do that? Looking at Appendix B, I find *propertyIds()* as a likely method. What would my syntax be? Something like this? for property in propertyIds(): or do I need *context.propertyIds()*? TIA, beno

Dynamic SQL problems.
by Daniel Jackson 16 Jan '03

16 Jan '03

I'm trying to create a dynamic table editor. The idea is you instance this product, give it the database host, user, pass, database name (Postgres in this case, BTW), and table, and you can edit that table via a nifty web interface. The problem is, I don't know what this table's format is beforehand, so I can't realy make any ZSQL methods for inserting new rows. Does anyone know how to work around this? Thanks, DJ.

re: Length of results set
by Ken 16 Jan '03

Dylan, thanks for trying... >It's _.len() not ._len() Right of course, sorry for the typo. It's not the total sequence-length that I am after, rather the number of matches found by a <dtml-if> nested in a <dtml-in>. > <dtml-let lang="REQUEST.get('HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE','en-us')"> > <dtml-in objectValues> > <dtml-let folder=id> > <dtml-let langShort=lang[2:]> > <dtml-var langShort> > <dtml-if expr="folder==lang"> > <dtml-var lang> <---------- how many of these? > </dtml-if> (there could be several) > </dtml-let> > </dtml-let> > </dtml-in> > </dtml-let> I've indicated above the number I'm after. Sorry if I was unclear. New ideas? Thanks, Ken

attaching images and wav file to email

I am trying to attach images and other binary data to an email. The text attachment works fine. (I would like to hide the following label(s) if possible...
