*** Z SQL Method and type LONG ***
by Bo M. Maryniuck 26 Nov '02

Hi. Well, I have great surpri... no, rather trouble. Maybe I've something missed (though I'm sure I'm not :), but how to pass to the SQL Method *long* type? E.g. I need to pass to a DB a 999999999999999999999 as long, not as string and SQL Method always fails, because /lib/python/Shared/DC/ZRDB/sqltest.py can understand only "float", "string", "int" and "not blank". If you pass type="int" this, for sure, runs int(value) and, sure, crashes. Should I use _float_??? No! Once I've changed sqltest.py for "int" type make as long (always). And it's work, but I would not like use my own patches for Zope... So how to solve this in normal way? -- Regards, Bogdan 1 4m 5o 3l337! just got r00t on this <a href="127.0.0.1">k3wl site</a> j00 sux0r5!

My ZWiki Pages are so screwed up...
by Kyler Laird 26 Nov '02

audience: How screwed up are they? me: They're so screwed up that... I can't change ZWiki titles at the edit page - I have to go to the properties form to do it. I get cryptic errors for pages that have worked for months (before upgrading Debian zope-zwiki). I can make a ZWiki Page in one directory, have it render o.k., then move it to another directory where it continues to work o.k., but if I create another one in that directory, it fails to render. Before, I just reverted to the older ZWiki product, but I'm afraid to do that now that I've been using the new one to create some of these objects. I've read a couple of the "upgrading to the new ZWiki product" pages, but I haven't found anything to try. Help?! Thank you. --kyler ====================================================== Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. I created a fresh new install of Zope 2.6 (the version on the zope.org site this afternoon). Then I downloaded the PyXML 0.8.1 for Python 2.1 (this is the last version that will work withPy2.1). I ran the installer, and as expected, it could not find the Zope python installation. I installed PxXML 0.8.1 in my regular (non-Zope) Py 2.1.3 installation. Then I copied the _xmlplus directory tree to D:\Program Files\Zope2.6\bin\_xmlplus In other words, copy it into the zope/bin directory, which is on Zope's Python path. VERY IMPORTANT, yet often forgotten - DELETE ALL *.PYC AND *.PYO FILES when you move python code to a new location. Those files can contain complete paths which are now obsolete, and can cause otherwise good code to fail. That happened in this case. After this, I was able to sucessfully do PyXml-related commands like D:>"D:\Program Files\Zope2.6\bin\python.exe" Python 2.1.3 (#35, Apr 8 2002, 17:47:50) [MSC 32 bit (Intel)] on win32 Type "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> import xml.xpath >>> import xml.xslt >>> I have not tested anything else, but this shows the installation is working. I think that you want to copy _xmlplus to somewhere on the Python path that would be found before the regular xml package would be found (it might work anyway, but this would be safer), and this way achieves this goal. Cheers, Tom P

Re: [Zope] SMTP Authenticating MailHost
by Etienne Labuschagne 26 Nov '02

26 Nov '02

Hi Tino, How far are you, and are you working on a permanent solution, or a temporary solution? I have edited MailHost to accept user name and password and I feel it is quite a complete update that should work fine. I have updated both the update and add ZMI interfaces. The smtplib.py that I am using is another story. It's a hack between the new smtplib of Python 2.2 (with SMTP authentication) and the one bundled with Zope (there are some issues with the socket module in Zope and the new smtplib). In addition, it contains a hack to make it work with our MS Exchange server (they are working on a Patch and I have grabbed some code from the latest patch diff, but not all of it - just to make it work with our Exchange!). I don't feel this is a great problem, because once the new smtplib.py (and Python2.2) is bundled with Zope, everything should work smoothly (my Mail Host is not dependant on my specific hacked smtplib.py, only a authentication-aware smtplib.py such as the one bundled with Python2.2) So, in short, it works for my system and I am prepared to share it with whoever is interested, but give no guarantees whatsoever on it's performance. If your solution is a more complete one and is near to completion, let me know and I will refrain from "launching" this one. On the other hand, if you are still some ways off then I can launch mine as a temporary solution as it seems there are quite a few people with SMTP authentication hassles. Let me know if you are interested in looking at my version and I'll send it to you. Regards Etienne --------------- Hi Etienne, --On Dienstag, 26. DCOracle2 broken due to inability to map library
by Webmaster 26 Nov '02

26 Nov '02

We are trying to implement DCOracle2 (ZOracleDA seemed to require too many other products to get it to work) and keeps triping up on the inability to map library libclntsh.so.8.0 Has anyone had success connecting to an Oracle DB from zope? If so how did *you* do it, and are there any obvious mistakes we are making. (apart from the obvious one of trying to connect to an Oracle DB in the first place). Are there any other product we can use?

Make sure you have the Oracle client libraries installed and configured correcly (i.e. sqlplus should be working against a remote database). 2. Then get DCOracle2 working with Python 3. Then get ZOracleDA working with DCOracle2 You don't say which platform but .... > and keeps triping up on the > inability to map library libclntsh.so.8.0 ... this sounds like in might be Unix. The key is ensuring that the Oracle env variables are available to the shell when you do steps 2 and 3 above. I.e. export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7 (or whatever) export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib So for Step 2 do python2.1 install.py inside the DCOracle2 directory (which you may have renamed to ZOracleDA). Then you can do (from with the DCOracle2 or ZOracleDA directory) cp -r DCOracle2 <your_path_to>/site-packages which I think guarantees that python will always be able to import DCOracle2. Now the clincher to making ZOracleDA to work (Step 3) is to edit your Zope start script to be something like this: #! /bin/sh reldir=`dirname $0` INST_HOME=`cd $reldir; pwd` export INST_HOME export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7 export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib exec /usr/bin/python2.1 \ $INST_HOME/z2.py \ -D "$@" & > > Has anyone had success connecting to an Oracle DB from zope? It's one of the hardest Products to install but well worth it when you eventually score .... > If so how > did *you* do it, and are there any obvious mistakes we are making. > (apart from the obvious one of trying to connect to an Oracle DB in the > first place). Are there any other product we can use? Well you can start messing with ODBC but I wouldn't go there.
