version control, deployment scenarios?
by Alexander Jerusalem 22 Oct '02

Hi all, I'm thinking about using Zope for the next version of the content management/e-learning platform that my organisation is building. The features of Zope are quite awsome. What I have not been able to make sure from the online documentation is if the development, version control and deployment scenario that we are currently using is possible with Zope. Our development team is dispersed across europe so: * Each of us has a development server at their work place * We all check the source files into a sourceforge CVS system. * We update the production server directly from the sourceforge CVS with a script. My question is, if this is a viable solution with Zope. I'm concerned that it might be a problem because I'm not sure if all tasks concerning source files like page templates, python scripts, etc can be done without using the Zope management interface. A solution where we'd have to use the Zope management interface would also be ok as long as it can be done for all changed/added/delete files at once. What I don't want to do is touch each and every added or changed file to import it into Zope. I would very much appreciate any comment or link to some how-to. Confirmation of delete in metapublisher
by Jonas Nielsen 22 Oct '02

22 Oct '02

When you add entries in a metapublisher database, you get a list of these entries followed by the 'View', 'Edit', and 'Delete'. If I press the 'Delete' link the entry is deleted without warning. Is it possible to ask "are you sure" or something like that (and how do I do it) ? I know there is a metapublisher mailing list but the subscrition page seems to be down. I hope someone will answer on this list.

RE: [Zope] Zsync errors

Hello all, I updated my Zopedevel and Zopetest servers to Zope 2.6.0. The new Zsync error (Zsync 0.4.5) is: There was a problem with that comparison. Error: TypeError request() got an unexpected keyword argument 'verbose' Things to check: Your destination ZSyncer is where it is meant to be. The destination server is running and accessible. The user "zopeadmin" has the right to access ZSyncer. The password for "zopeadmin" is correct. Curiouser and curiouser ... --Adam -----Original Message----- From: Adam Getchell [mailto:AdamG@hrrm.ucdavis.edu] Sent: Monday, October 21, 2002 9:56 PM To: 'Andy McKay'; zope(a)zope.org Subject: RE: [Zope] Zsync errors Andy, Hmmm, I changed it back to not using port 80. If you go to http://zopetest.hr.ucdavis.edu/STAGING you get "Zope staging synchronizer" which is the comment for my Zsync defined as: ZSyncer at /STAGING Edit ZSyncer Title: Zope staging synchronizer So I'm looking right at it. Still getting (from Zopedevel): "There was a problem with that comparison. Error: ProtocolError <ProtocolError for zopetest.hr.ucdavis.edu/STAGING: 500 Internal Server Error> Things to check: Your destination ZSyncer is where it is meant to be. The destination server is running and accessible. The user "zopeadmin" has the right to access ZSyncer. The password for "zopeadmin" is correct. I know the accounts in question have access rights, as I just logged on using them. So, your comment means that when I try to sync Zopedevel --> Zopetest, which end is failing? problem with a list of files
by juan garcia 22 Oct '02

22 Oct '02

Hi everybody, I am trying to store a list of files in context.REQUEST.SESSION. In order to achieve this I do files = container.Entries.objectValues('File') and later session=context.REQUEST.SESSION session['mylist']=files and I get the error Error Value: Attempt to store an object from a foreign database connection I suppose this is because Zope tries to store the files, and I only need to store the reference to them. Somebody knows how to do it? thank you. _______________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Messenger Nueva versión: Webcam, voz, y mucho más ¡Gratis! RE: [Zope] RE: CSV (Was: Perl scripts)
by Warnes, Gregory R 22 Oct '02

> So back to the original topic: Is there any example how to use an > external Perl script and shipping some parameters to it? I just found > the statement that it is possible. I wonder if anybody tried ... I regularly use a Perl script called from Zope to do the opposite conversion: *from* xls *to* csv. Initially, I used this code in an external python script, but I've now created a Zope product called 'CSVFile' which checks the file extension and automatically converts uploaded files from xls to csv if required. Here is the appropriate code snippet: ## ## Configuration ## ## Perl Path PERL_PATH='/usr/local/bin/perl' ## Location of perl script 'xls2csv.pl' XLS2CSV_PATH = '/usr/local/zope/current/Extensions/xls2csv.pl' # ... other stuff here ... def ExcelToCSV(ExcelData=None,ExcelName='ExcelFile.xls',CSVName='CSVFile.csv'): """Translate the first worksheet of a Microsoft Excel file to CSV format by calling the perl script 'xls2csv.pl' """ if ExcelData == None: return None dirinfo = do_tmpdir() excelfile = open(ExcelName,"w") excelfile.write(ExcelData) excelfile.close() HERE = dirinfo['tmpdir'] command = "%s %s %s %s 1 2>1 > tmp.out " % (PERL_PATH, XLS2CSV_PATH, HERE + ExcelName, HERE + CSVName ) # print "Executing command '%s'" % command retval = os.system( command ) if retval==0: csvfile = open(CSVName,"r") CSVData = csvfile.read() csvfile.close() else: CSVData = None clean_tmpdir(dirinfo) return CSVData As an aside, I use double-quotes to bracket each cells contents and comma separation. With this, I haven't had any problems here with MS-Excel failing to properly convert csv files when opening them -- with any of IE, Mozilla, Netscape 4 on W2K. -Greg LEGAL NOTICE Unless expressly stated otherwise, this message is confidential and may be privileged.
