Your definition acts a little bit like the (totally >imaginary) code: > >abc = make_function('abc', (), 'pass') > >...so 'abc' already exists, there's no need to "get" it. > >Example: > >def abc(x): > return x + 1 > >y = abc(1) > Sorry, that was a typo. Should have been: f = getattr(======, 'abc') as in: # PythonScript # parameters: # whichFunction='abc' def abc(): return 'this is abc' def cba(): return 'this is bca' f = getattr(======, whichFunction) return f() # end If I do not know which function I want to run until runtime, then I cannot use the function handle, I need to "get" the function by name. Now, I have worked around this problem by defining abc and bac as PythonScripts in the same folder as the original one, then I can use: f = getattr(container, whichFunction) but that is a bit of a hassle if I have a few very simple functions and just want to choose one by name. hmm... now that I think about it, I could also say: funcs = {'abc': abc, 'cba': cba} f = funcs[whichFunction] but it seems like there is probably a very simple handle for the current PythonScript namespace, and I just dont know what it is. newbie : polling problem
by Hor Hen Ley 17 Oct '02

17 Oct '02

hi all, I m really newbie to this zope thing and have trying to set up a polling engine for my developement portal without much success. I tried using the "Poll" plugin in http://www.zope.org/Members/mega/poll I just couldnt get the object to display in my index_html , with "<dtml-var mypoll>" even though i have created a poll object with an id of "mypoll" in the same directory and have populated the poll object with questions and answers. The strange thing is i can view the poll object when i m in the poll management interface. Did i call the poll object wrongly ? and is there better tools in zope to do this job ? thnks in advance henley

If he started Zope in debug mode (the usual) and did not nohup the start script, and then closed the terminal, zope wil die... A quick look at the process list will tell you whether Zope's running. My guess is the message came from the browser....

dtml-tree and dictionary
by AM 16 Oct '02

Hi, I wanted to know that if I have a dictionary that might possibly be a dict of dicts, is it possible to construct a tree using dtml-tree and the dictionary?? REQUEST var and links in page
by AM 16 Oct '02

16 Oct '02

Hi, I have a DTML doc at the top of which I set a REQUEST var: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('x',y)"> Now in the page I have a set of links that O generate via a PyScript of the form http://site:8080/page?a=b&c=d Now if I do a <dtml-var REQUEST> in page I dont see the request variable I set at the top of the page namely 'x'. I thought REQUEST variables were propogated when one followed links (as against typing the URL in the location bar). Is the presence of a query string screwing things up here?? PYTHON: Searching for an object inside a folder
by Vitor Varalonga 16 Oct '02

16 Oct '02

Hi! I need to check, inside a Python script, if an object with a particular ID exists inside a folder. Right now I'm using the following code: # this is the folder I want to search myFolder = container.REQUEST.PARENTS[0].img_folder # search the folder for an object with ID <object_id> obj = getattr(myFolder, object_id, None) if obj is not None: # there is no such object else: # there is an object with that id Is there a more efficient way to perform this operation? kind regards, Vitor Varalonga

by jj bbox 16 Oct '02

Hello ZopeU, If I create a externalFile object which is targted at ./somedir/file.pdf then view it then go back and delete the file on the filesystem and rename newfile.pdf to file.pdf and then go back and view it but I still see the "old" file. Why don't I see the newfile??? (Note: it seems to work ok with txt files...) Any suggestions... ( perhaps zip pdf files... ) -jj __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? further adventures with "Not found"
by John Fink 16 Oct '02

16 Oct '02

When accessing the Zope server from lynx, I get a 404 message followed by the same "Not Found" message I talked about earlier. As has been made abundantly clear I am very much a Zope neophyte, but it looks like to me my user has deleted something that maybe he shouldn't have and he doesn't remember it. I can't really think of any other explanation. jf

possible fix, possibly not for "Not Found"
by John Fink 16 Oct '02

16 Oct '02

My friendly user for which I've been toiling just sent me the following URL: http://www.zope.org/Members/itamar/CorruptedZODB . He seems to think that it's possible the DB has gotten corrupted. Since there's nothing mission critical on our Zope instance (yet, anyway), I'm probably going to give a DB recover a try and see if anything interesting happens. jf
