Zope and Lotus Notes questions
by Fernando Martins 17 Oct '02

17 Oct '02

Hi, I've been looking for information regarding Lotus Notes and Zope. I've found too little in the zope web site (one testimonial saying that Notes sucks but no explanation and the Beehive conversion from Notes to Zope, but no details). I tried searching on Yahoo groups simply by looking by Lotus but, weird, I get several messages but they don't contain the lotus word!! I'm not familiar with neither (I've seen a demo on Notes Designer and I've done the zope tutorial) and probably I'll have to go to Lotus Notes for policy reasons, unless I find examples of what can I do with Zope but not with Lotus Notes/Domino. I'm also looking for the possibility to connect to Lotus Notes databases (import/export). Finally, Lotus Designer provides a Visual development environment. From what I've read, Zope seems to be at disadvantage here, ie, to create a database oriented application I've to code DTML/ZPT by hand. I understand I can use an HTML designer and then hand-code the ZPT part. Something better than this, or have I overlooked something. Anything RAD-like for zope? Thanks, Fernando Martins

Training My Users
by Brian R Brinegar 17 Oct '02

17 Oct '02

Hello, I'm going to be teaching a course to get some people started using Zope. Their idea of web publishing is creating a file with DreamWeaver and dragging it to some network folder. I'm planning on covering completely static sites using MS Web Folders. Has anyone had to deal with people in a similar situation? I would like users to be able to drag and drop a file and have it take on the a standard look either header and footer or from a template, but I don't want them to have to add any tags or attributes to their code. Thanks, -Brian

Using GPL'd modules with Zope?
by Derek Basch 17 Oct '02

17 Oct '02

Hello, I am a bit confused on how to use GPL'd modules, like Xron, with the other non-copyleft licenses like BSD and ZPL. Do i have to make my whole Zope installation copyleft if I use a GPL'd module. Or, Is it just that single module that is copyleft and I can retain ownership of my own code? Thanks, Derek Basch __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Faith Hill - Exclusive Performances, Videos & More http://faith.yahoo.com

changing LocalFS content type
by John Hunter 17 Oct '02

17 Oct '02

I have some data that was uploaded to a LocalFS (Local File System) dir and the type of the code was incorrectly specified as application/octet-stream when it should be text/plain. I went into the manager interface and changed the 'Content Type' field and got no errors, but when I go back and look I see that it is still application/octet-stream. Is this a bug in bug in LocalFS? Does anyone know how if it is possible to change the content type of an LocalFS file? The file was uploaded to the zope server LocalFS dir using some client java code that incorrectly specified the content type. Thanks, John Hunter LocalFS-0.10.1 Zope 2.5.1b1 (source release, python 2.1, linux2), python 2.1.3, linux2)

newbie: python scripts and records
by Alexis Roda 17 Oct '02

17 Oct '02

Hi all, I'm learning python. If I do: class Foo: pass bar = Foo() bar.baz = 1 in order to create a record I get an "attribute-less object" error from zope, but it works right on the python interpreter. Is there a way to create records (the same type of record I get from forms with :record) from a python script?
