List of dictionaries in ZPT
by Chetan Kumar 11 Oct '02

Hi all I have a script that returns a list of dictionaries to a ZPT. I have tried all I knew without success in printing out the results in a table. In the following ZPT the address at list should be visible. It does not !! ------------ZPT Start------------------------- <table tal:define="Empp python:request.AUTHENTICATED_USER"> <tbody tal:define="Reps python:here.GetMyRecentDataPython"> <tr tal:content="Reps"> </tr> </tbody> </table> --------------ZPT End-------------------------- The script looks like ------------Script Start-------------------------- request = container.REQUEST RESPONSE = request.RESPONSE GotRecentData=container.GetMyRecentDataSQL(EmpID=request.EmpID).dictionaries() return GotRecentData ------------Script End------------------------------- There are no issues with the SQL and Script. They provide just the right output if tested seprately from ZPT. I am struck. Here is the error message ------------------Error Message Start--------------- Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. *TALESError* Sorry, a site error occurred. HELP!!!
by PenguinHO＠aol.com 11 Oct '02

11 Oct '02

I was reading the administrator's guide and I came acrross the need to use the EMERGENCY USER. I accidentally changed the admin password. I was trying to change another user accounts password and instead changed that one. I typed in 43046 as the password, but it made it 8 characters when i went back, before I knew it I accidentally logged out of zope and now I am stuck with the admin password as some unknown 8 characters. I treid the emergency user and it doesn't work I went to command prompt in Windows 2000 and i went to C:/Python22 then ran "python C:\PROGRA~1\NFHL\zpasswd.py access" from the prompt I filled out the form but the emergency user does not work. I tried logging in through my browser. Am I supposed to log in a differnt way wth the emergency user? I just need to change the admin password back. BTW: I love Zope. Keep up the good work. Thanks, -Daniel

Catching Dababase IntegrityError
by Mike Doanh Tran 11 Oct '02

11 Oct '02

Hi, Does anyone know how to catch this data integrity error? I was trying to give a more friendlier message than the Zope error_message when someone accidentially enters a duplicate Primary Key name of an existing record. Error Type: IntegrityError Error Value: (1062, "Duplicate entry 'Big Foot' for key 1") I have tried the following in my <dtml-var standard_error_message> , but it did not worked: <dtml-if "error_type=='IntegrityError'"> <h3>Duplicate Entry!</h3> <LI>This is a duplicate entry of an existing Database record. Please rename your entry. </dtml-if> Thanks, -- Mike Tran Shuffle Master Inc.

Unix: Vanishing Group Ids associated with Zope process ?
by Holger Blasum 11 Oct '02

11 Oct '02

Hello *, I observed that under Debian woody, Zope 2.5.1 runs under the user id 'www-data'. The python OS command os.getgroups() gives me an empty list when called from an external method, although I had configured the user 'www-data' to be the member of several groups. If, on the other hand, I run python with my user id from the command line as a normal user, the command os.getgroups () gives me all the groups am a member of (that's what I expected). Please enlighten. (Why I need this: I need appropriate group rights for some 'posix.system' calls from an external method for an interim fix kludge...) (Just to avoid confusion beforehand: I am *not* talking about process groups but about the groups the user running zope is in.) -- Holger Blasum

Stupid Bug
by Rares Vernica 11 Oct '02

11 Oct '02

Hi, Try something: Create a folder in "Root Folder", for example "StupidBug". Inside this folder create a DTML Method "index_html" and inside it write "<dtml-var REQUEST>". Ok, now, in other browser window, access ".../StupidBug", you should see that you are "Anonymous User" right. Now change the address field of your browser to ".../StupidBug/manage_main", login as meneger. Now change your browser field address again to ".../StupidBug" and you should see that you are "Anonymous User", at least this is what I see. Stupid isn't it?! (I use Zope 2.5.1 and Internet Explorer 6.0) Thanks in advance, Rares _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx

Wrapping objects: __getattr__ weirdness
by Paul Winkler 11 Oct '02

11 Oct '02

I'm trying to write a pretty transparent wrapper product in python, which will have one property, source_path, which contains a (string) path to another object. I can resolve this path to the object, no problem; but I cant' see how to delegate attribute requests to it. my __getattr__ fails with (snip - complete traceback later): File "/zope/Zope_software_home/lib/python/OFS/Traversable.py", line 95, in unrestrictedTraverse self=self.getPhysicalRoot() TypeError: object of type 'string' is not callable Which is weird, because I can do getPhysicalRoot() on both the wrapper and the wrapped object and it ain't a string.... Before I go further I'll explain the motivating scenario. We have four zope sites (on one server) which have a fair amount of content overlap. This content is not in a consistent location across sites (e.g. we might have www.site1/blah/bleh/foo and www.site2/blarf/foo) We have a non-technically-minded, overworked content manager and an ever-expanding mountain of content. Currently, her job is nearly impossible and i'm charged with creating the solution. So I thought I would: 1) build a single cmf site for content management (cmf also provides other things we need, so it seems to be a good fit). 2) customize workflow so that one stage of publishing consists of specifying where you want the content to appear, and then wrapper objects are created which will render the content in context *and* provide access to the wrapped object's properties. e.g. you'd get a form in which you can type in some variant of "site1/blah/bleh/foo" and "www.site2/blarf/foo", and we'd automagically create wrappers at those locations which point back to this content. 3) customize the management skins so that deleting or moving the source content also updates the wrappers. (sounds like zope 3 will make this easier, but who knows when that will be.) Alternative solutions to the above scenario would be welcome, but in the meantime, here's what I'm trying now for the wrapper product: # ... management methods snipped, they're working fine def get_source_object(self): """ return the (aq-wrapped) object referred to by source_path. """ obj = self.unrestrictedTraverse(self.source_path, default=None) return obj.__of__(self) # everything else comes from the source object. def __getattr__(self, name): obj = self.get_source_object() attr = getattr(obj, name) # do I need to aq-wrap attr if obj is aq-wrapped? not sure. return attr.__of__(self) # return attr doesn't work either Now I go into zope and create one of these at /paul_stuff/, called "whatever", and point it to '/index_html'. That seems to work. Now let's have a look, at the prompt... >>> wrapper = app.paul_stuff.whatever >>> wrapper <ContentProxy instance at 8c9d418> >>> wrapper.source_path '/index_html' >>> obj = wrapper.get_source_object() >>> obj <DTMLMethod instance at 8a95ca0> >>> obj.getPhysicalPath() ('', 'index_html') So far so good... but try to access something in obj via wrapper, and it's no good. >>> obj.raw '<dtml-var standard_html_header>\n<dtml-var zope_quick_start>\n<dtml-var standard_html_footer>' >>> wrapper.raw Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in ? File "/zope/InstanceHome/Products/ContentProxy/ContentProxy.py", line 68, in __getattr__ obj = self.get_source_object() File "/zope/InstanceHome/Products/ContentProxy/ContentProxy.py", line 63, in get_source_object obj = self.unrestrictedTraverse(self.source_path, default=None) File "/zope/Zope_software_home/lib/python/OFS/Traversable.py", line 95, in unrestrictedTraverse self=self.getPhysicalRoot() TypeError: object of type 'string' is not callable This is baffling. Where am I calling a string?? I've been searching for similar issues on google and turning up nothing that helps... this message seems to indicate that overriding __getattr__ should be doable: http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists/dev-archive.nsf/b1b1e2c766c8f6c7802568c… -- Paul Winkler "Welcome to Muppet Labs, where the future is made - today!"

Hairy problems deinstalling zfs???
by Rik Hoekstra 11 Oct '02

11 Oct '02

I'm going to include the Zope list in this. Perhaps other people can help, and who knows this may be of interest for others as well... Please reply to me directly as I am not on the Zope list anymore. Below follows the mail exchange I had with Andy MacKay, followed by a final response from me. All in all it's a bit long, sorry for that. Rik Hoekstra wrote: > Hi Andy, > > ZFS seems to 'infect' all zope objects once it's installed. It didn't help, though :-( The problem is that my objects complain they don't have a __before_publishing_traverse__ attribute after zfs has been removed. SOmehow the before_traverse method of the zfs hooks get registered with the objects (or the other way round), but for the life of me, I can't find out how this works or how to remove it... The main problem is that direct traversal of my own objects is broken and the site is dependent on it at some crucial places. Now, I find this very hard to debug - poking in the dark with a black stick. sigh. Rik Hoekstra
