debian zope instances
by H. Christian Gromoll 01 Oct '02

Hi, I encountered this problem: after installing OrderedFolder-0.5.1 on my local machine and restarting zope, I can no longer connect to the server at all (I get "connection to http://localhost:8080 refused"). I tried deleting the OrderedFolder directory from ..lib/python/Products and restarting, but that doesn't help. Any ideas? Also - I have a question on setting up two zope instances on a debian system. I'd like to have 2 zope instances (maybe listening on different ports?) so that I can set the "production" instance up behind apache, while I experiment with changes on the second instance (which I'd connect to directly through its port). My question is: can anyone point me to some documentation on how to set up multiple zope instances? A description relevent to Debian's setup would be particularly useful. Thanks! Christian

Version problems
by Smith, Neil (Worcester) 01 Oct '02

01 Oct '02

I've just had a problem where after making many changes in a version I saved the changes. Strangely only half of the changes were actually saved. After saving, the version would report that it had no changes to save, but when not working in the version there were still locked objects visible in the ZMI. Starting to work in the version showed these objects as changed, with their new code intact, but the version still thought it had nothing to save. I think I've now got things back to normal by going through the site and finding all the changed objects then re-saving them in the version and saving the version again. Has anyone seen this sort of problem before? Is it likely to occur again? Should I delete the version in case it is corrupt in some way, and if so, is there any way to check before I do that there aren't any changes in it that I might have missed. We are on Zope 2.4.3 windows binary release running on NT4 SP6. Zope and memory leaks
by Howard Hansen 01 Oct '02

01 Oct '02

Thanks for everyone's help with my server questions a couple of weeks ago. Last week, the hammer fell and they turned the power off at our ISP. I lost 275 days of server uptime! Worse, our server remains physically inaccessable, locked away and subject to bankruptcy actions. Not a pretty picture. I scrambled and built a new server from a borrowed mobo, a processor destined for my wife's computer, and other offal. Debian cooperated and loaded cleanly. I stopped Zope, copied over a week-old Data.fs backup, installed one missing product, repointed my port 80 to the new machine, futzed with Apache, and got back up by the time the DNS changes filtered through. My 640/256 ADSL line is handling over 2000 hits/hr. Phew! Here's my question, though. On my old machine, the Zope process leaked memory like all get-out. For instance, in a mere 14 hours, it went from 75MB to 285MB. I had to restart the Zope process daily. Here's the output of the debug page: Class 00:28 14:37 Delta ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Acquisition.ImplicitAcquirerWrapper 16,253 107,895 +91,642 ZPublisher.HTTPRequest.HTTPRequest 3,267 19,872 +16,605 ZODB.POSException.ConflictError 2,171 13,067 +10,896 OFS.Folder.Folder 1,807 7,362 + 5,555 ZServer.HTTPResponse.ZServerHTTPResponse 1,094 6,635 + 5,541 ZPublisher.BaseRequest.RequestContainer 1,091 6,632 + 5,541 ZPublisher.BaseResponse.BaseResponse 1,089 6,621 + 5,532 ZServer.HTTPResponse.ChannelPipe 1,087 6,619 + 5,532 AccessControl.DTML.TemplateDict 42 121 + 79 Products.CMFCore.FSDTMLMethod.FSDTMLMethod 6 82 + 76 OFS.Image.Image 286 333 + 47 Memory Usage 75MB 285MB 210MB This problem only cropped up on the old server in the past 2 months. Running on the new server, I no longer have this problem. It's run at a steady 40MB for 5 days. Both machines run Debian Woody. Any ideas about what's going on? Do I need to reboot the server more frequently? Have I missed something? Howard Hansen http://howardsmusings.com

Good Evening Everyone, Please take a look at the code below. All code starting with a # resulted in a security violation (not authorized) in line 7 of recs2lod(). Code starting with an * worked. I believe that DateTime is in fact a float and that you will probably need to convert it to a string of the correct format. Then your database will probably automatically convert it to an internal date format. regards Max M ><evolve> > > _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

Ok, I see now. I just need to call the methods of the MailHost object using something like: context.MailHost.manage_makeChanges('MailHost','mail.attbi.com',20) Simple :). Now I just need to study up on calling python scripts from DTML documents so I can pass in the MailHost attributes new settings.
