Re: [Zope] Output child folders in a specifc order?
by Fearless Froggie 01 Oct '02

01 Oct '02

Hi, (Disclaimer: I'm a complete newbie to zope as well as Python!) I created something similar to what you want to do -- a two level order menu based on what child folders are available. I assigned an "order" property to each folder. Then I crawl through my "folder" tree, get the title, id, order number, url (and whatever other information I want) for each folder, put that into a tuple, then put that tuple into a list. Then I sort the list. If "order" is the first value in each tuple, the folders will be ordered by the "order" value. Then I can print out that ordered list of folders anyway I like. Disadvantages: If you have a lot of child folders, it's hard to tell what order they're in. You'd have to view the properties of each child to see it's "order" value. The dream would be to create a custom management view of your folders that displays the order value of each folder. Then you could view and change them all at once. You could also create columns to display and edit other properties of interest. That would make it very easy for non-programmers to add folders and reorder them as they like. But like I said, I'm a complete newbie and this was my first zope/python script. I haven't attached it cause it's not pretty. But if you want to see it I'll send it to you. Output child folders in a specifc order?
by JBeard＠porternovelli.com 01 Oct '02

01 Oct '02

I'm using this script from the examples folder: <div tal:define="subfolders python:container.content.objectValues ('Folder')"> <ul tal:condition="subfolders"> <li tal:repeat="folder subfolders"> <a href="folder" tal:attributes="href folder/absolute_url" tal:content="folder/title">folder id</a> </li> </ul> <p tal:condition="not:subfolders"><b>There are no sub-folders here.</b></p> </div> It looks in my content folder and outputs links to all folders in there. The links come through as some random order, I want to be able to control this order, not alpha, but a defined order: I have 5 folders, I want to be able to tell it which ones to output 1st, 2nd, etc >> This will then form my navigation.

Python problems if one has Python 2.2 installed
by Yves Moisan 01 Oct '02

01 Oct '02

Hi, I haven't found a bug-report channel and there are such a number of mailing lists that I don't know where to submit this. Please put the following message where it should go. This is to report a glitch in the Wnidows installation of Zope 2.5.1. The installation said it completed successfully, but this is not true since I had gotten the "'import site' failed; use -v for traceback" error message from Python at installation time. I had to go check manually what was going on and I found that the Python that comes with Zope (.../bin/python.exe), which I gather runs Python 2.1, actually was looking for stuff in my Python 2.2 installation. It said somewhere on the Zope site that the Python interpreter that comes with Zope does not interfere with other installations of Python. This is simply not true. I had a PYTHONPATH variable set for my Python 2.2 and I had to delete the environment variable for the Zope python interpreter to launch successfully ( I tried putting the 2.1 dirs ahead, but that did not work). There has to be a better shielding between the Zope Python interpreter and the outside world (especially other implementations of Python ...) and there has to be a definite mention of that problem in the install.txt file. Cheers, Yves Moisan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------- Yves Moisan, Ph. adding ZClass with python script problem
by Tom Germaine 01 Oct '02

01 Oct '02

Hi All, I have a ZClass object that I would like to instantiate using an upload form and a python script. The ZClass object is subclassed from CatalogAware and DTMLDocument. My upload form has 3 fields - file=myfile, id=ident, title=mytitle: <form action="uploadActionScript" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <p><input type="file" name="myfile" size="85"></p> <p>Filename: <input type="text" name="ident " size="70"></p> <p>Title:       <input type="text" name="mytitle" size="70"></p> <input type="submit"> </form> and the python script to instantiate the object: .... client=context.myfolder .... getattr(client.manage_addProduct['MyProduct'], \ 'MyZClass').createInObjectManager(ident,context.REQUEST) ....... This does add an instance of my ZClass to myfolder, with id of ident but without content and title. I tried getattr(client.manage_addProduct['MyProduct'], \ 'MyZClass').createInObjectManager(ident, myfile, \ mytitle, context.REQUEST) and propertysheets.MyZClass.manage_editProperties \ ({'file':myfile,'title':mytitle},context.REQUEST) but these fail too. How should I go about including the contents and title of my upload file into my new ZClass object? Why does running zope as a service on win32 suck? I have had good luck with my setup - zope 2.4.3, NT4, no ZEO. Thanks - Scott -----Original Message----- From: Chris Withers [mailto:chrisw@nipltd.com] Sent: Wednesday, September 25, 2002 6:06 AM To: Jeff Kowalczyk Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Help with CVS ZEO2 Client, Server on same Win32 machine Jeff Kowalczyk wrote: > 1c) Zope runs as a service, shut down before any of the following steps. You should get some messages saying that ZEO is serving a storage on a port. > 5) I open another command prompt and type: > C:\Program Files\Zope>bin\python.exe lib/python/ZEO/start.py -p 8800 > I get a Win32 error/stop dialog with the following error. > "This application has failed to start because tk83.dll was not found. > Re-installing the application may fix this problem." Uninstall Pythonwin for bnow and see if this goes away. Also, try the following as it has the correct slashes: C:\Program Files\Zope>bin\python.exe lib\python\ZEO\start.py -p 8800 BTW, why are you trying to start two storage servers? You want one storage server and one or more clients... > 6) In a browser, the ZMI doesn't respond: > http://localhost:8080/manage Funny that ;-) cheers, Chris PS: Where did you put your custom_zodb.yp file? PPS: Look at using INSTANCE_HOME's, the fact that you're not may be what's fouling you up... _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev ) The information contained in this email message may be privileged and is confidential information intended only for the use of the recipient or any employee or agent responsible for delivering it to the intended recipient. Help with CVS ZEO2 Client, Server on same Win32 machine
by Jeff Kowalczyk 01 Oct '02

01 Oct '02

I checked out the ZEO CVS today (ZEO2), The ZopeReadme is very clear and focused. However, I am having trouble locating the point of failure on my Windows XP setup. I think the clients and server are running, but I can't access objects through the browser. 0) I have Python 2.2 installed at C:\Program Files\Zope for non-Zope use. It is the default if you just type 'python' at a command prompt. 1) Zope 2.5.1 is installed in C:\Program Files\Zope (as C:\Progra~1\Zope) 1a) Zope's Python 2.1.3 (#35) is at C:\Progra~1\Zope\bin\python.exe 1b) I have Pythonwin for 2.1 installed on Zope's python, use it for the browser, and hopefully soon with ZEO. I also have PyXML, reportlab and PIL in there. 1c) Zope runs as a service, shut down before any of the following steps. 2) ZEO is at C:\Progra~1\Zope\lib\python\ZEO (i.e. start.py is there) 3) C:\Progra~1\Zope\custom_zodb.py contains these lines: from ZEO.ClientStorage import ClientStorage Storage = ClientStorage(('', 8800)) (the one in the ZEO misc directory didn't seem to specify the port, I don't know if it defaults to 8800, so I used this one from the ZopeReadme) 4) I open a command prompt and type: C:\Program Files\Zope>bin\python.exe lib/python/ZEO/start.py -p 8800 (there is no display of status, but I don't get the cursor back. Is it running?) 5) I open another command prompt and type: C:\Program Files\Zope>bin\python.exe lib/python/ZEO/start.py -p 8800 I get a Win32 error/stop dialog with the following error. "This application has failed to start because tk83.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." (This happens whenever I have run z2 from the command line (non service), and it doesn't seem to have any other adverse affects. I don't know if this is known behavior) (there is no display of status as in normal Z2 debug mode, but I don't get the cursor back. Is it running?) 6) In a browser, the ZMI doesn't respond: http://localhost:8080/manage FWIW, I have also tried step 5 as: C:\Program Files\Zope>bin\python.exe lib/python/ZEO/start.py and "net start zope" but with no result. Can anyone spot the source of my mistake? Thanks, I'm looking forward to ZEO in a big way.

RE: [Zope] Passing Arguments to ZSQL Method from Python Script

But here is the code that I am using, you will notice that the user attributes are NOT in the REQUEST object: for user in context.Users.RegistrationInfo.objectValues("UserInfo"): context.sql_users_insert(user) The sql_users_insert takes a bunch of parameters and the "user" object above is a ZClass with properties that have exact names as parameters for zsql method. Then use container.sql_insert(request) You arguments will be marshalled for you, as above. Well, if the variables are in REQUEST, zope will bind them to the parameters of the ZSQL Method--as long as the names match. So, I could in effect call <dtml-call sql_insert> without passing any arguments. But I want to mimick this in Python Script. Another "convincing" argument can be found in the Zope Book: "If you call a Z SQL Method without argument from DTML, the arguments are automatically collected from the environment." http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/current/RelationalDatab ases.stx#3-66 I am sure there is a way to do this in script, but I don't know how to. I am hoping that someone on this list knows. Are you convinced now? Oh, I think I have html turned off now.
