- Zope - Zope lists

Re: [Zope] installing ReportLabs
by Dennis Allison 29 Sep '02

Thanks for your help. Since the instructions in the rlzope readme.txt were so specific, I'd assumed that the path was set automagically. A slight change to the doc would be helpful ''' 1 - Install reportlab in the Zope/lib/python/Shared directory by unpacking the tarball and putting a reportlabs.pth file in site-packages for the Zope used with Python. The path value in the reportlabs.pth file must be relative. For a typical Zope installation, the path is "../../python/Shared". Remember to restart Zope so the new path is instantiated. '''

XEN, XEN-Midnight, TUTOS-Clone working version ???
by Roger 29 Sep '02

29 Sep '02

Hello, has anybody a working version from XEN or XEN-Midnight? It's a project-management clone form the PHP product "Tutos". I think it was a project, 1 or 2 year's ago. Or does anybody know a good project management tool for zope? installing ReportLabs
by Dennis Allison 29 Sep '02

29 Sep '02

I installed the report labs product per the instructions included with the product in Zope's .../lib/python/Shared directory with the interface routine rlzope installed in the Extensions directory. When try to install the External Method it fails because it cannot import Paragraph from Shared.reportlab.platypus.paragrah. A path problem of some sort, but it's not clear where the problem lies. ANyone else encountered this one? -dra

Re: [Zope] can programatically update ZCatalog?

> Is it possible to update a ZCatalog using python script? > Are there built in methods to do it, and if so what are they? > Tom Germaine They do exist. Whenever I create a product that needs a catalog, I don't use CatalogAware. Instead, I make the container for the items to be cataloged do the work for me in setattr methods. The methods you want are: mycatalog.uncatalog_object( self.getPath(object_id) ) mycatalog.catalog_object( object, self.getPath(object.id) )

Re: A simple patch file question
by Derek Basch 28 Sep '02

Dieter, Well, I figured out my problem. Im an Idiot! Seriously though, I was trying to patch 'xmlrpclib.py'. This would explain why I couldn't find any of the contextual information from the patch. I should have read more carefully ("I patched "ZPublisher.xmlrpc" to send tracebacks with the response."). I was just so used to using 'xmlrpclib.py' for xmlrpc client functions that it went right over my head. Thanks nonetheless, and at least this forced me to learn about patch, diff, and ZPublisher :) Regards, Derek Basch --- Dieter Maurer <dieter(a)handshake.de> wrote: > Derek Basch writes: > > I have been practicing using the patch tool in > cygwin > > and have successfully patched a few files now. > > However, I still can't get your xmlrpc traceback > patch > > to work. Flux 0.1.0 released (about workflow)
by Juan David Ibáñez Palomar 28 Sep '02

28 Sep '02

Hi all, Flux 0.1.0 has been released. It's yet another tool to solve your workflow problems. What makes it different of the other alternatives (MetaFlow, OpenFlow and DCWorkflow)? First, it's not a Zope product, it's a Python module, packaged and distributed with distutils. This means that it can be used without Zope; when used with Zope, it has to be used from a Python product; it don't provides a web interface to define the workflow. This is a tool for developers. With less than 200 lines of code it's the simplest workflow solution. The workflow is defined as a graph (like MetaFlow and DCWorkflow do), so it's easy to understand. However, it don't has the constrains of DCWorkflow because Flux don't provides any application semantics (it don't tries to guess what you need, you tell it what you need). MetaFlow, until now the product with the best approach to the problem for my taste has inspired Flux. MetaFlow is a Zope product that includes a Python package (MetaFlow.Workflow) which is as simple as DCWorkflow and as powerful as OpenFlow (at least it has the potential to be). It also provides a web interface through the management screens, unfortunately this interface repeats the mistakes of DCWorkflow (probably this has stopped many users to use it). Unfortunately I couldn't take MetaFlow.Workflow because it also makes some mistakes, like to copy the DCWorkflow API, which is not very good. So here is Flux, the best available tool for developers (if you aren't a developer forget it). Download Flux from: http://sf.net/projects/lleu Regards, -- J. Komodo 2.0 for personal use
by Heimo Laukkanen 28 Sep '02

28 Sep '02

I don't know if you have noticed, but ActiveState's Komodo has now a new version ( 2.0 ) and also a new pricing. Now you can buy a personal licence for $29.95 - which is just great! I had been thinking about Komodo for a long time - to use it while studying python and Zope's inner guts, but the price was a bit an issue since I did not code python for a living. Now - me happy ,-) And this was not a paid advertisement. -huima

updating catalog takes forever (never really completes)
by Christopher N. Deckard 28 Sep '02

28 Sep '02

I have a ZCatalog with about 7,000 cataloged objects. When I try and update the catalog (the advanced tab), Zope seems to just spin on it forever. After a while it becomes unuseable. Zope's been updating the catalog for about 5 hours now and hasn't completed. What's going on and why is it taking so long? I set the threshold to 100 objects. The last time I tried it with the default of 10,000 it did the same thing. Thanks, -Chris
