overloading getattr on a product
by Christopher N. Deckard 17 Aug '02

17 Aug '02

Hello, I'm writing a product which stores the equivalent of Folder properties in XML. Now I want to be able to catalog objects of this type, but looking at how that's done by the ZCatalog shows that getattr(object, index) is called for all indexes. How do I overload getattr to parse my XML and return the value of the "property". My product is subclassed from ParsedXML and uses the DOM to go through the tree and find my "properties". What seems to be happening is that when I define a new __getattr__, implicit getattr calls are made to the DOM object and it ends up calling my newly defined getattr method. This sort of send it into a recursive neverending loop. -Chris

Do-it-yourself acquisition -- is there an easier way?
by VanL 17 Aug '02

17 Aug '02

Hello, I have python products and python scripts in which I am trying to get a certain object, by id, from higher up in the acquisition chain. I know that this object is in a folder named 'toolbox', so the code I have is as follows: def get_foo(self, fooID): default_foo = None for parentObj in self.aq_chain: try: toolbox = parentObj._getOb('toolbox') foo = toolbox._getOb(fooID) return foo except: continue return default_foo This works, but seems very clunky. Is there an API call that is cleaner? Does the method above have a hidden danger or difficulty that I am not seeing? Thanks, VanL

Zope 2.6 libssl install problem

I tried upgrading to Zope 2.6.0a1 and got the following error. Is this because the python binary I installed was compiled with SSL support? -Patrick > ./start Traceback (most recent call last): File "/space/jprice/Zope/z2.py", line 504, in ? from SignalHandler import SignalHandler File "/space/jprice/Zope/lib/python/SignalHandler.py", line 18, in ? from ZServer import asyncore File "/space/jprice/Zope/ZServer/__init__.py", line 27, in ? from medusa import asyncore File "/space/jprice/Zope/ZServer/medusa/asyncore.py", line 51, in ? import socket File "/usr/local/lib/python2.1/socket.py", line 41, in ? from _socket import * ImportError: ld.so.1: /usr/local/bin/python: fatal: libssl.so.0.9.6: open failed: No such file or directory

Newbie Question on using External Python Library
by working4aliving 17 Aug '02

17 Aug '02

I have a python script that I run that checks the status of lpc printers on remote solaris boxes using python's telnetlib. I'm trying to get this to run under zope... and I'm getting the nasty authorization message that is supposed to happen. Can I get to this library from within Zope? I tried to add telnetlib as an external method... but to no avail. It's looking for an argument such as (Oh heck, I'm not in front of it right now). I was hoping I could. a) Get this to work / work around the problem. (I've tried an external method, but the class TELNET doesn't have an "func_default" attrib (I'm lost). or b) Just use an html page with the python script. (exec problem???) Do I have access to the "wealth" of python libraries from within Zope that I'm coming to know and love ? or not :<( ? Thanx in advance for anyone's help.

zope hosting
by Mark McEahern 17 Aug '02

Hi, I'd like to host multiple Zope sites. 1. How do I modify the list of Products available on a per-site basis? Or is there just one list of products per Zope instance? That is, I can't have different "add object of type" lists in each VirtualHost? 2. How do I configure disk quotas for Zope sites? I can't use the OS because it's all in Data.fs for that Zope instance, true? Thanks, // mark -

nice icons
by Gromoll, C. 16 Aug '02

Hi folks, I'm looking for some nice icons to use on my zope powered homepage for representing different document types. At the moment I need icons for "pdf", "ps", "tex", "howto", "link" - but it would be nice to have others as well. I like the zope icons for "howto", "wiki" etc. because they're small and simple while still looking nice. I was wondering if there are other icons from this family out there somewhere, or if not, if anyone knows how to obtain a nice matching set of icons in a similar style. Thanks in advance, christian

It comes from PyXML and is their extension set. Sounds like some kind of configuration problem. <SIGH> Anyhow, good to hear you are in business...

I use it for simple data base type operations (postgresql) and use the product as is. I tweak the look and feel but am satisfied with what I use it for. Eric Dunn Allen <aschmidt(a)fredericksburg.com> on 08/16/2002 05:04:42 PM To: zope(a)zope.org cc: Subject: [Zope] Znolk changes I just installed the latest version of ZnolkSQLWizard last night. I generated a few editing pages to make sure it worked. Today, I started editing the code it generates and instead of dtml-var tags it now uses dtml-babel tags. I have never seen this before. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there anyway to turn it off and go back to plain old dtml-var tags??? Thanks, created table but can't figure out how to apply. Guess I need to crawl back to the newbie table. Any suggestions? I can see the the data when I do a select * from log. This would be good if I could use this to track certain access to web pages data. Is this what the product is good for? Eric Dunn Jeff Peterson <jpeterso(a)rangebroadband.com> on 08/16/2002 05:06:05 PM Please respond to jpeterso(a)rangebroadband.com To: Dan Hix/USA/BAC@BankofAmerica, Eric N. Dunn/USA/BAC@BankofAmerica cc: Randall.G.Steiner(a)BankofAmerica.com, Seth Baltuch/USA/BAC@BankofAmerica Subject: RE: [Zope] (no subject) Some small changes: CREATE TABLE log( log_id SERIAL, severity character varying(32) DEFAULT 'INFO' NOT NULL, subsystem character varying(80) DEFAULT 'DTML' NOT NULL, summary character varying(256) DEFAULT '' NOT NULL, detail character varying(8192) DEFAULT '' NOT NULL, log_time timestamp DEFAULT TIMEOFDAY() ); I was a little unsure of what it was you were trying to accomplish with the timestamp, and as I am *not* an Oracle guru I made some guesses. The above function TIMEOFDAY() returns the high precision time with timezone, but you should probably investigate NOW() and TIMESTAMP and maybe some of the other Postgres time functions as well, just to be sure you are getting what you want. SERIAL variable handles all the sequence creation, etc. VARCHAR is also ok in place of "character varying". > -----Original Message----- > From: zope-admin(a)zope.org [mailto:zope-admin@zope.org]On Behalf Of > eric.n.dunn(a)bankofamerica.com > Sent: Friday, August 16, 2002 11:00 AM > To: Dan.Hix(a)bankofamerica.com > Cc: Randall.G.Steiner(a)bankofamerica.com; zope(a)zope.org; > seth.baltuch(a)bankofamerica.com > Subject: [Zope] (no subject) > > > > > Does anyone know the comparable SQL for Postgresql. > > > CREATE TABLE log ( > log_id integer DEFAULT nextval('log_id_seq'::text), > severity character varying(32) DEFAULT 'INFO' NOT NULL, > subsystem character varying(80) DEFAULT 'DTML' NOT NULL, > summary character varying(256) DEFAULT '' NOT NULL, > detail character varying(8192) DEFAULT '' NOT NULL, > log_time timestamp(2) without time zone DEFAULT > ('now'::text)::timestamp(6) with time zone > ); > > > > _______________________________________________ > Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope > ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** > (Related lists - > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

Hi David, Even though I could not totally comprehend what you are talking about probabily bcos i don't full deal with the stuffs, I would not mind if you can send me a copy since somebody has already said that one of the key secret to success in the 21st century is "keep on leanring at all time".
