Preffered Startup procedure
by Kevin Sullivan 14 Aug '02

Hi, I have been having problems keeping zope running for an extended period of time. I start zope with "./start &" from a terminal. My current instance of zope has been running fine for a few days, but it seems to be because my terminal is still active and available to write logging to. When I start zope and my terminal becomes disconnected zope seems to die fairly quickly. Is there a way to avoid this, or a way to automatically restart zope? Thanks... python if/else problem
by Tom Germaine 14 Aug '02

14 Aug '02

Hello All: I am uploading a DTMLDocument using a form and python script, but I'm stumped as to why the if/else clause in the script does not work. The script: import string request = container.REQUEST ident=request.ident myfile=request.myfile mytitle=request.mytitle if ident[3:6]=='do_': client=context.do_ mytitle2 = mytitle + '- AVC, Dean\'s Office' if ident[6:9]=='adm': mytitle3=mytitle2 + ', Administrative' elif ident[6:9]=='hr_': mytitle3=mytitle2 + '-, Human Resources' if ident: client.manage_delObjects([ident]) client.manage_addDTMLDocument(id=ident,file=myfile,title=mytitle3) else: client.manage_addDTMLDocument(id=ident,file=myfile,title=mytitle3) ------ if file 'ident' exists, no problem, it is deleted and DTMLDocument is added if file 'ident' does not exist I get the error: Error Type: BadRequest Error Value: (filename) does not exist if I eliminate the 'if' part and comment out 'else' a new DTMLDocument is added ok What am I missing here? multiple issues: ie vs mozilla/manage_workspace/traceback/phantom directories
by Ricardo Anguiano 14 Aug '02

14 Aug '02

Greetings Zope Community, I have a few issues I hope someone can help me resolve. Here are the vital statistics. If I left anything out please let me know. Pointers to helpful documents are much appreciated. Zope 2.4.1 (binary release, python 2.1, linux2-x86), python 2.1.0, linux2 Zope 2.5.0 (binary release, python 2.1, linux2-x86), python 2.1.2, linux2 ie vs mozilla 1. This is happening on the 2.4.1 site. Occasionally I run across one of my pages which I can edit using IE and not mozilla. When I go to the /manage interface in IE, I get the folders and the tabs across the top like a regular manage_workspace. When I go to the /manage interface using mozilla, the page displays as it would when I normally load it, as if I had clicked on the view tab. What do I need to be able to edit all my pages using mozilla/netscape. I have only seen this on my Zope 2.4.1 site. manage_workspace 2. This is happening on the 2.5.0 site. Currently, I have a broken page. When I enter the URL into a browser I get a Zope traceback. If I try to edit the page using the /manage administrative interface I get a display of the traceback and not the regular manage_workspace. This is a similar problem to #1, but this is happening only on pages with traceback. How do I get the regular interface back when I have a problem like this? traceback 3. This is happening on the 2.5.0 site. What's going on in this traceback? Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 150, in publish_module File /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 114, in publish File /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 158, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: credits) File /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 98, in publish File /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 88, in mapply (Object: binutils) File /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 39, in call_object (Object: binutils) File /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/OFS/DTMLDocument.py, line 127, in __call__ (Object: binutils) File /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_String.py, line 473, in __call__ (Object: binutils) File /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_In.py, line 654, in renderwob (Object: binutils_contributors) File /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/ZODB/Connection.py, line 493, in setstate File /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/zLOG/__init__.py, line 129, in LOG File /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/ZLogger/ZLogger.py, line 17, in log_write File /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/ZLogger/stupidFileLogger.py, line 27, in __call__ File /usr/local/Zope/lib/python/ZLogger/stupidFileLogger.py, line 79, in stupid_log_write IOError: (see above) phantom directories 4. This is happening on the 2.5.0 site. I have a directory structure which looked like this: http://example.com/foo http://example.com/foo/f1 http://example.com/foo/f2 http://example.com/foo/f3 For some reason links pointing off into f1 and f3 from foo's index_html document come out as tracebacks, when followed. When I manage the foo directory, only f2 is shown in the left frame. If I enter the url manually (/manage/example/foo/f1/manage_main, manage_workspace displays the missing page just fine. The dtml appears ok.) Any ideas why the links are broken and why the directories are missing, but there when explicitly requested? java classes in zope
by Chris Withers 14 Aug '02

14 Aug '02

Hi Ciji... A few notes: 1. I've moved this message to the zope(a)zope.org list. What does it have to do with CMF afterall? Please use the correct list in future. If you don't know what the correct list is, then use zope(a)zope.org 2. All the lists are @zope.org. Please don't send to those @python.org, they confuse people's mail filtering rules. cijiisen wrote: > > I saw a JDBC DA zope product ! As Jens said, why nto look at the source? > Can someone tell me how I can use java classes in zope? http://sf.net/projects/jpe cheers, Chris

RE: [Zope] ZSQL field problem
by McDonnell, Larry 14 Aug '02

Hi, I had a similar problem yesterday and Chris Kratz gave me the following answer that works: Hi Larry, There is probably a cleaner way to do it, but we use dtml-if's to determine whether to insert a string or a null. It's not terribly pretty, but it works. ie INSERT INTO some_table(some_field) VALUES(<dtml-if form_field><dtml-if "form_field ==''">NULL<dtml-else><dtml-sqlvar form_field type=string></dtml-if><dtml-else>NULL</dtml-if> Hope this helps. -----Original Message----- From: zope-admin(a)zope.org [mailto:zope-admin@zope.org]On Behalf Of Colin Fox Sent: Tuesday, August 13, 2002 7:17 PM To: Geir Bækholt Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] ZSQL field problem On Tue, 2002-08-13 at 13:47, Geir Bækholt wrote: > Hello Colin, <..> > i think type=nb would work the way you want.. > > (the nb means non-blank , meaning replace the empty string with NULL) I tried making it 'type="nb"', and I got: Invalid empty string value for birthday I use a script to validate the form fields. I've tried: if birthday == '': birthday = None but somewhere it gets turned into the string "None" instead of the Python value None, and "None" isn't a real date. So I took the conversion from '' to None out, and got the "Invalid empty string value for birthday" error. There must be a way to do this - you couldn't set an integer or float to '' either. -- Colin Fox cfox(a)cfconsulting.ca CF Consulting Inc. Weird intermittent error with BTreeFolder
by Chris Withers 14 Aug '02

14 Aug '02

Hi, Every so often, if I go to a URL like: http://x.com/btreefolder/fileobject I get this weird error: Error Type: NotFound Error Value: The object at http://x.com/btreefolder has an empty or missing docstring. Objects must have a docstring to be published. Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/local/zope/2.5.1_base/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 89, in publish File /usr/local/zope/2.5.1_base/lib/python/ZPublisher/BaseRequest.py, line 320, in traverse File /usr/local/zope/2.5.1_base/lib/python/ZPublisher/HTTPResponse.py, line 502, in debugError ...where btreefolder is a version 0.2 BtreeFolder and fileobject is a normal Zope 2.5.1 File object. The amazingly frustrating thing is that if I refresh the URL, things work exactly as I expect :-( Any ideas?! cheers, Chris

python script parameters
by Ben Avery 14 Aug '02

14 Aug '02

hi, I'm having problems with passing a number of parameters to a python script called by XML-RPC. I want some of the parameters to be optional, and passed as empty strings. I have tried to do this by setting default values as empty quoted strings. But playing around even with setting non-empty default values in a list of params doesn't seem to work. e.g. if I set the parameter list of the method as: a, b="aardvark" and then test the script, if I leave b empty, the default aardvark is assumed. but if I switch the order round, and set the param list as: b="aardvark", a and do the same, the script breaks with the error 'the parameter b was ommited from request. could anyone tell me how I do this: i.e. have a parameter list with some values set with defaults, not just the last one?
