Undo log
by Mark Gibson 13 Aug '02

Is there any way to log specific messages, or customize the message a transaction leaves in the undo log? I have a method that does a both updates and deletes an object. I'd like to be able to show in the undo log which event was executed. For example: current undo log: /path/document_edit by mark 2002-08-13 11:29:41 AM /path/document_edit by mark 2002-08-13 11:29:27 AM want it to show something like: /path/document_edit deleted by mark 2002-08-13 11:29:41 AM /path/document_edit updated by mark 2002-08-13 11:29:27 AM Thanks, Mark

Problems with list of object references
by Sven Rudolph 13 Aug '02

13 Aug '02

Hello everybody, I have a problem with a list of object references. I wrote a product that buffers a list of objects. The list is created with self.LIST = self.restrictedTraverse(ListOfPaths).objectValues['MyOtherProduct'])) inside a function called "charge_buffer". This product also has a DTMLFile named "show_list". "show_list" contains: <dtml-var LIST> When I open "show_list" in my browser I can see the list like this: [<MyOtherProduct instance at ecdcfa8>, <MyOtherProduct instance at ecdd050>, etc. ] (This seems to be a list of addresses) As a result I can use "LIST" in an in-tag in another DTMLFile called "use_list": <dtml-in LIST> <dtml-var id><br> </dtml-in> This seems to work very well. When I open "use_list" in my browser I see a list of ids. But when I reload "use_list" 3 or 4 times I suddenly get an attribute error for "get", just as if the sequence-item wasn't an object anymore. The same thing happens when I refresh my product or restart the server. (BTW. my product inherits from Persistant, and I set _p_changed=1 after charging the buffer) So I repeatedly called "charge_buffer" and looked at "show_list" and "use_list". "use_list" always showed me the same list of id's, as I expectet, but "show_list" always showed me a different list where the adresses where always different. It seems that the "addresses" of my object instances change a view seconds after loading my buffer. As a result I am unable to save a list of object references for later use. Can anybody help me with this? Thanks in advance Sven Rudolph -- Sven Rudolph, Programmierer GermanMedicalServices.de GmbH Unter den Eichen 5, 65195 Wiesbaden Tel.: 06 11 / 97 46 25 2

Hi! >>please excuse this stupid question but I can't find the answer: where do >>you >>get the python devel and how do I install it (Suse 8.0)? >Forget about the Python distribution that comes with SuSE Linux. I can't because my boss decided we want Suse (and not RedHat which I would prefer). It's not my choice. Can't start Zope
by Sabine Richter 13 Aug '02

13 Aug '02

Hello, I'm new to this list and have my first question: Zope won't start and I have no idea, what's wrong. May anybody give me a hint? I installed Zope 2.5.1 and 2.5 on Win XP prof. My Python version is 2.2.1 and I never had an older one on this system. I get the same error messages wether I run 2.5.1 start.bat or 2.5 start.bat. But there are differences in using zope-python.exe or python-python.exe: start.bat: MYZOPEDIR\bin\python.exe MYZOPEDIR\z2.py -D %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9 error: 'import site' failed; use -v for traceback Traceback (most recent call last): File "MYZOPEDIR\z2.py", line 540, in ? import ZServer File "P:\ZOPE25~1\ZServer\__init__.py", line 26, in ? from medusa import asyncore File "P:\ZOPE25~1\ZServer\medusa\asyncore.py", line 50, in ? import select ImportError: Module use of python22.dll conflicts with this version of Python. ---------------------------------------------------------------- start.bat: MYPYTHONDIR\python.exe MYZOPEDIR\z2.py -D %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9 error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "MYZOPEDIR\z2.py", line 540, in ? import ZServer File "MYZOPEDIR\ZServer\__init__.py", line 80, in ? from HTTPServer import zhttp_server, zhttp_handler File "MYZOPEDIR\ZServer\HTTPServer.py", line 43, in ? from PubCore import handle File "MYZOPEDIR\ZServer\PubCore\__init__.py", line 14, in ? import ZRendezvous File "MYZOPEDIR\ZServer\PubCore\ZRendezvous.py", line 15, in ? from ZServerPublisher import ZServerPublisher File "MYZOPEDIR\ZServer\PubCore\ZServerPublisher.py", line 13, in ? from ZPublisher import publish_module File "MYZOPEDIR\lib\python\ZPublisher\__init__.py", line 23, in ? from Publish import publish_module, Retry File "MYZOPEDIR\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py", line 19, in ? from Response import Response File "MYZOPEDIR\lib\python\ZPublisher\Response.py", line 13, in ? import HTTPResponse File "MYZOPEDIR\lib\python\ZPublisher\HTTPResponse.py", line 91, in ? start_of_header_search=re.compile('(<head[^>]*>)', re.IGNORECASE).search AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'compile' Thanks in advance Sabine

RE: [Zope] Zope Documentation
by Breuer, Yvon 13 Aug '02

YB: Maybe we shouldn't talk about a true way, but about a *preferred* way. DM: But your preferences are not necessary mine and mine even vary with context... I understand your examples and I see your point. DM: I am very happy with the community's democratic nature. I would not like a dictator that decides on whether a product can or can not be on the products list. I agree! DM: But I would welcome [1] an annotation service, where users of a product can comment in such a way that other users learn about their experiences (something like the reader reviews on Amazon.com) And maybe, [2] a preference rank for products in a group may help (something like the purchase rank on Amanzon.com) automatically determined from the number of downloads or derived from some explicit rating. All I've been trying to achieve was to get an improvement on how to retrieve whatever you need for a certain goal. I think the current documentation isn't clear enough in this matter. I _do_ what I'm missing, but, because of my lack of experience, I didn't know (still don't) how it can be solved. While following the postings on the list I have the feeling this also applies to others. Maybe this improvement can be achieved by your [1] and [2] solutions! If others agree: Who'll set it up? (and how?) DM: PS: you could learn to strip your quotings down a bit. I'll try... ;-) Yvon PS: "If others agree" --> Because I think the community should support it to make it use- & succesfull.

NuxUserGroups -- any comments?
by Joel Burton 13 Aug '02

13 Aug '02

Installed NuxUserGroups to test as a possible solution for a client's user-management needs. If you're not familiar with this product, it adds a "group" concept in Zope, so that users can be associated with 0 or more groups. These groups can then have local roles assigned to them. The advantage of this is pretty clear: if I want to give all accountants privileges in the accounting subfolder, I have to either (a) add them as users in accounting/acl_users, which means they may be defined in two places (a pain when it comes to user management, password changes, etc.), or (b) add a local role for each accountant individually, which becomes a pain if the list of accountants changes often, or (c) give all accountants the role "Accountants", which becomes unwieldy if you have more than a few groups. NuxUserGroups allows me to make all the accountants have a normal role (Member, Staff, whatever), and belong to the group Accountants. I can then give the Accoutants group the local role of Manager (or whatever) wherever I want. If Bob moves from Accounting to HR, I just have to switch his groups in the one user folder--not track down his user in several places or change lots of local roles. A very good idea. My concern about using this is that it patches some fairly deep stuff, and I'm anxious that it may not work well with other custom products, future versions of Zope, etc. There's been a little bit of traffic here in the past few months about NuxUserGroups, but none that seems to address these, more basic, questions: What's the current blessed opinion about this? Do you use it? Does it work seamlessly? Would you recommend it? Thanks for any input. - J -- Joel BURTON | joel(a)joelburton.com | joelburton.com | aim: wjoelburton Independent Knowledge Management Consultant

by FR Chalaoux 13 Aug '02

Hi, I installed Zope-2.5.1-solaris-2.6 on a "SunOS lads01 5.8 Generic_108528-14 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-60" and got the following error when I started Zope. I also have no problem with an Zope-2.4.1 install on the same machine , I can start Zope and import rotor. Any idea ?
