Python product - defaults from filesystem files
by vsbabu＠vsbabu.org 30 Jul '02

30 Jul '02

Hi, In a python product I'm developing, I'd like to provide the ability to customizetemplates - like CMF skins. I have default page templates in the product as files in the filesystem. When people want to customize, I'd like to read the template from filesystem and make a corresponding instance in ZODB. Is there any elegant way to do this? File System directory view? My initial thinking was to just read the file contents and create the object - but I want to see if there is any already accepted way... This is for a non-CMF site. Thanks in advance Satheesh Babu http://vsbabu.org/

problems with SiteRoot in Zope 2.5.1
by Ria Marinussen 30 Jul '02

30 Jul '02

Hi, I installed and tested apache and zope (2.4.3). I used SiteRoot to be able to use one page for both secure and non-secure access. (using http://www.zope.org/Members/unfo/apache_zserver_ssl) Everything works perfectly. Now I want to transfer my site to the production server. I thought this would be a nice opportunity to get the newest version of Apache and Zope. Unfortunately in Zope 2.5.1 I don't seem to be able to get SiteRoot functioning as ik does with Zope 2.4.3. Has something changed in Zope or SiteAcces? I know most people prefer VirtualSiteMonster. Does anybody know whether it is possible to have a configuration with both http and https directing to the same pages like the example in the above mentioned document (apache_zserver_ssl)? Thanks in advance. Ria Marinussen Webmaster Department of Computer Science University of Twente The Netherlands

Grrr. No CUF anymore ...
by Terry Hancock 30 Jul '02

30 Jul '02

I've been using Cookie User Folder for sometime now, but I've noticed some weird behavior which I think might be due to CUF. I went to check the website (thinking I might upgrade or find bug reports) and found that CUF is now "deprecated". Oh joy. :-P CUF's deprecation announcement includes a reference to "CookieCrumbler", which however, is not the same thing at all. Searching zope.org yields 28 results for "user folder" software products. So, what should I migrate to? * I want cookie-based authentication, with custom login forms and an option to change the cookie expiration time from session cookies to month or year long cookies. (CUF does this). * I'm currently using a MySQL table to identify users, but actually handling password and access through CUF. Obviously, it would be nice to have the user folder handle this synchronization for me. CUF didn't do this, but it would be nice. * Ideally the choice I make will not also be pulled out from under me within six months of selecting it. Any suggestions? Thanks! newbie question - start page configuration
by Dave Banning 30 Jul '02

30 Jul '02

I am new to zope and have gone through the tutorial and now what I wonder is how to change the address of my page from; http://mypage.com:8080/Examples/mynewpage to simply http://mypage.com:8080 I know I can lose the 8080 part in the configuration file by changing the port to 80. What about the subdirectory part? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Health - Feel better, live better http://health.yahoo.com

Reasonable maximum # of objects in ZODB?
by VanL 29 Jul '02

29 Jul '02

Hello, I am trying to convince my boss to go with a Zope-based solution for a web app. I had heard that the ZODB scales to about 5 million objects (products and text files, mostly) with reasonable performance. Is this right? What are reasonable performance and size limits for the ZODB on single-proc intel server hardware? Thanks, VL
