win32 - best DBMS with Zope?
by Day Irmiter 19 Jun '02

Having read a bit, I concluded the open source DBMS to use with Zope was mySQL. Easier said than done under win32, I've discovered. Am I correct in thinking mySQL is the way to go? How about using an ODBC adapter to connect to mySQL? Possible? Advisable? Thank you.

RE: [Zope] Wake up Zope faster on Windows

> If I leave the computer or just don't use the Zope server for > a longer > while it takes exceptionally long time to get Zope waking up again. > I don't want it to fall asleep. I want it to be on alert always. Most likely Windows has swapped the Zope process (or dependant components) out of RAM. And frankly, tuning the cache system on windows is a )="#()("!)!= to do. I am assuming NT/2k here? If so, open the task manager and enable the Swap usage column, then keep your eyes on it. If it seems to increase swap usage after a while, but decreasing the RAM usage, then that probably is the case?

RE: [Zope] Win IE to access zope

Hey HP In IE: 'File', 'Work Offline' is probably checked -----Original Message----- From: HP Wei [mailto:hp@rentec.com] Sent: Wednesday, 19 June 2002 2:13 p.m. To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Win IE to access zope hi, this is a newbie question. System: Window NT4.0, IE5.0 Zope binary was downloaded just last week. Instatllation was fine. start.bat can start up the zope. The message shows: ZServer HTTP, FTP, PCGI are running. However, in IE5.0, the URL http://localhost:8080 results in "the web page you requested is not available offline". I must have missed some simple thing. Any idea ? thanks, HP _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

comparing two variables type="int"
by Mike Tran 18 Jun '02

Hi, I have two variables A & B whose types are "int". What is wrong with this comparision? (Assume A=5 and B=5) <dtml-if "A==B"> Then do something </dtml-if> I've have also tried. <dtml-if expr="A==B"> Then do something </dtml-if> None of these above work. This works fine when A & B are of types string instead of intergers. Thanks for any suggestions. -- Mike.

problem with Web Folders & Zope
by Kevin Lewandowski 18 Jun '02

18 Jun '02

Hi, I'm trying to connect to Zope via wevdav/web folders on a Windows 2000 system. I have WebDAV enabled on the server with "-W 8900". I've tried many combinations of connecting but always get "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another". WebDavLogger is installed and I see no errors. Each time I try to connect there's an HTTP 200 status at the end of the log file. Does this mean it's a problem on the client? (win2k) Has anyone fixed this before? thanks -Kevin

Some of the > tweaking I did this morning must've paid off. Still doesn't appear in the > Products listing, but at least I can actually use it. Two thoughts: 1) Is this a suspect version of Python+Zope? I had a lot of problems of this general nature with Python 2.1.1 + Zope 2.4.3, and when I asked on list I was told this might be the problem. I haven't been using Python 2.1.3 + Zope 2.5.1 long enough to be sure, but it does *seem* to have made some of these problems go away. 2) Writing __init__.py is a wee bit picky. Have you done this before so that you know you're doing it right? (Have given all the arguments to the context.registerClass() calls, etc?) Did you import the module that the object is defined in into __init__.py? Hmm. Does the name in __init__.py agree with the name in the original module? (I had some objects disappear without generating any traceback when I renamed one of them). Of course, that wouldn't seem to account for the product being missing. Does everything have a docstring? I've been bitten by that requirement a few times. I notice my initialize function has one -- I can't remember what happens if it doesn't, though. It must work! > > > > But DTML is dangerous. > > > > Sometimes, you do not get the objects you expect. > > I expect that this is your true problem. Most times I ran into a problem like this, it was because I had inadvertently converted one or both of the variables to a string (e.g. attempted to pass an integer through a web request instead of a direct call -- I often confused the action of calling a method with an HTTP POST with calling it from another method in Zope, despite the fact that these are actually quite different things). Often, doing something like: <dtml-if expr="_.int(A)==_.int(B)"> Conditional stuff. </dtml-if> would fix it. Don't forget the pesky "_" namespace qualification for builtins in DTML. I have some doubts that > Zope does it in a way that prevents a new "ConflictError" with high > probability. On the other hand, it is not too likely, that > the automatic repetition increases the time by almost two orders... This interests me, I got "ConflictError" log messages when I was trying to use "on-the-fly" generated images in Zope. When a page would request the same image in several different sizes, my server would start thrashing. I never waited 10-15 minutes to find out, but that estimate doesn't surprise me (actually I'm surprised to find that it would recover at all -- I wonder if mine would've done so). This happened often, though not quite everytime (though it was almost certain to happen if I used a new client to view the page -- the browser's cache must've been saving me on the other times). I then put in some code to cause threads to wait if the object was being used (rather clumsily -- I didn't use the threading module, since I hadn't learned about it yet, sigh -- I still have to clear that mess). This reduced the problem considerably, though not quite completely (maybe doing the thread-locking correctly would've solved it completely -- but actually I'm going to try solving it with a solution based on Temp Folders, since I just upgraded Zope, so I may not find out about the original problem). I'm describing this in the hopes that my experience may give you some insight into what might cause this sort of problem, though I'm not sure if it'll help.
