hi guys I try to add properties to a file via dtml, without success! I get a "Authorization required" message. The security settings are set to "Manage properties - Anonymous, Manager, Owner". here the code I use to add the properties: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('content_dir', 'news')"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('content_id', 'testdocument')"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('tA_worker', 'simon')"> <dtml-call "_[content_dir]._[content_id].manage_addProperty('author', tA_worker, 'string')"> here the traceback after pressing "cancel" when the "Authorization required" appears: File /var/data/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 222, in publish_module File /var/data/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 187, in publish File /var/data/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 171, in publish File /var/data/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: addAction) File /var/data/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: addAction) File /var/data/zope/lib/python/OFS/DTMLMethod.py, line 189, in __call__ (Object: addAction) File /var/data/zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_String.py, line 538, in __call__ (Object: addAction) File /var/data/zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_With.py, line 146, in render (Object: new_intranet) File /var/data/zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_With.py, line 146, in render (Object: _[upload_dir]) File /var/data/zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_Util.py, line 334, in eval (Object: _[content_dir]._[content_id].manage_addProperty('author', worker, 'string')) (Info: content_id) File <string>, line 0, in ? Can Zope OFS span filesystems?
by Terry Hancock 19 Jun '02

19 Jun '02

Hi All, I've only just gotten to the point of trying to understand the Zope storage systems (i.e. ZODB, ZEO, etc), and it's not clear to me from what I've read online so far whether its possible to have a very large OFS span across multiple filesystems. I.e. can you mount sections of your Zope tree on separate disks, and if so, is it transparent to Zope? (With Unix/Linux FSs, you just buy more hard drives if you run out of space, but AFAIK, you can't actually span a file across multiple drives). Also, can you specify a raw device (e.g. /dev/hda8 ) as the storage file (in other words, treat it as if Zope were the filesystem, instead of hosting the OFS on an underlying filesystem)? (I actually haven't figured out how to change the storage at all yet, though the ZEO documentation makes it pretty clear that it can be done). I've seen solutions which try to avoid having massive content like this inside of Zope. Are they really necessary? Or could you basically use Zope as the filesystem? Any pros or cons I ought to know about? For that matter, has anyone actually run Zope with an OFS that large? It's still very academic for me, though I see a possibility of things going that way, depending on how we design. So really I'm asking "Should I try to avoid huge storage in Zope?" Keeping track of the state in python objects
by Oliver Marx 19 Jun '02

19 Jun '02

Hello everyone! Being new to Zope and Python I have a few worries, unfounded or not only you can tell! Given a resultset from a db-query I would like to make python objects of the resultset, then through -Zope manipulate the objects and send them back to the database. My worry is that the objects lose themselves going through the layers Python -> Tal -> Html, then having to reconstruct the objects before putting them back in the database. What I want to do is make stable classes with given class methods as done when programming in c++ or Java. I realize that part of my ignorance is due to the fact that I know next to nothing about Python and how it interacts with Zope and HTML. So I am hoping that you can answer my questions before I invest serious time in the project. \Peter --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. sha and newbie db question.
by Alejandro Fernandez 19 Jun '02

19 Jun '02

Hi, I have 2 questions: I'm trying to replicate the following php code in zope: $code = $HTTP_POST_VARS["CODE"]; $codemd5 = md5($code); I believe that in straight python, this would be: hcode = sha.new(code).hexdigest() (because as far as I know, there's no md5 equivalent of "hexdigest"). But when I run this in a python script, which recieves such a value from a dtml method with a form in it, it complains that it's not allowed to run "new". I'm sorry if this is a well known security restriction, and the page of the zope book or of some manual to get around it would be enough for me thanks! Second problem is a lot easier: I've looked at the relational database chapter of the zope book, but have not found exactly how to do a call to a zsql method from within a python script. Is there somewhere where I can get examples of the dtml/python script code behind a database backed website? The code in particular wouldn't be to display something, but for operations such as inserting, deleting, cacheing queries, storing variables, etc. Thanks so much! Problem with ZServer
by Antonio Carrasco 19 Jun '02

19 Jun '02

I´m having problems with zope 2.5.1 on W98 when crashes, the light is off, or not correctly shutdown. After that, I start the zserver but when I try to log in, the server crashes because of an error in logger.py in line 65, in maybe_flush, bad file descriptor. I lose my work and have to reinstall Zope. I tried to make something, removing temp and index datafs, z2.log, but only breach to log in in the server, but if i try adding or modifing objects, i recieve the same error. ¿Whats the problem?.¿Bug?. ¿Am i doing something wrong?

Restatement of list problem
by Schmidt, Allen J. 19 Jun '02

19 Jun '02

Maybe I over-complicated my original request. I have a form field that is a list: ['2 DR CONVERTIBLE','2 DR COUPE','2 DR HATCHBACK'] The URL looks like this: vehicleList?bt=2+DR+CONVERTIBLE&bt=2+DR+COUPE&bt=2+DR+HATCHBACK When I pick for years 2002 and 2001 for the above body types, the URL changes a bit: vehicleList?yr%3Alist=2002&yr%3Alist=2001&bt%3Alist=%5B%272+DR+CONVERTIBLE%2 7%2C+%272+DR+COUPE%27%2C+%272+DR+HATCHBACK%27%5D >From this search, I get no results. If I manually take out the %5B and %3A etc. codes it works fine. How do I keep the above conversion from happening? Thanks again! -Allen

Need information about Zope Products
by Phil Glaser 19 Jun '02

19 Jun '02

Hi, I am new to Zope and am evaluating it for use in a large portal project. In particular, I need to determine how much of the project requirements could be satisfied with existing products and how much would necessitate customizing existing products or creating new ones. I have searched through http://www.zope.org/Products/all_products and have some questions about what I found and did not find there. (If there's anywhere else I should be looking, please let me know.) ******CALENDAR****** I am looking for an event calendar that would enable a group of users to schedule events as individuals and as a group. There are calendars included in Online PIM and Zope Unified Grand Desktop, but these projects don't look mature or up-to-date. Simple Calendar of Events also looks like there's not much activity. The only one that looks reasonably active is EventFolder. Does any anyone have experience with it? Are there any other Calendar products out there I should look at? ******PDA SYNCHRONIZATION****** Since there's a calendar, of course there's an interest in synchronizing to a PDA. I could not find anything about this on zope.org. ******STATISTICS REPORTING****** If I were to use apache as the web server, I would use webalizer or something like that to report on site statistics. But if I use ZServer, is there a product that gathers together statistical information in a way similar to webalizer? Or maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree: is there a tool for converting a Z2.log file into a format that can be analyzed by webalizer or something similar? ******BULK MAIL****** Zope seems to be pretty robust in its mail tools (Zmail in, support for POP3 and IMAP, as well as the sendmail tag) but I could not find a product that provides listserv functionality. I also noticed that zope.org itself uses mailman (e.g., http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev) Should I stick to mailman, or is there a product to do this? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!!! please keep this on the list so everyone can see it... you can pass context by making "self" the first argument in the method defined in the module you put in the Extensions folder. then use self like you use context. it will be passed in automatically when you call the external method. jens On Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at 01:12 , Alejandro Fernandez wrote: > Hi, > > Thanks for your answer.
