How does dtml-sqlgroup really work?
by Jorge O. Martinez 12 Jun '02

12 Jun '02

Hi: Not sure if this is a DB question, or DTML question, so I'm sending it to the general Zope list. I've been banging my head over this relatively simple query, which (if my understanding of the dtml-sqltest tag is correct), should be fine. The idea is simple, get 3 columns from company_index, and display the results, if there's further constrains set (like ticker, company_name, etc.), taylor the query accordingly: select company_name,ticker,primary_exchange from company_index <dtml-sqlgroup where> <dtml-sqltest ticker op=eq type=nb> <dtml-sqltest company_name op=like type=nb> <dtml-sqltest industry_group op=eq type=nb> <dtml-sqltest industry_subgroup op=eq type=nb> <dtml-sqltest market_cap op=eq type=nb> <dtml-sqltest market_sector op=eq type=nb> <dtml-sqltest primary_exchange op=eq type=nb> </dtml-sqlgroup> but it's not happy. It keeps displaying errors like this: ************* Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: KeyError Error Value: industry_group Troubleshooting Suggestions * This resource may be trying to reference a nonexistent object or variable industry_group. * The URL may be incorrect. * The parameters passed to this resource may be incorrect. * A resource that this resource relies on may be encountering an error. For more detailed information about the error, please refer to the HTML source for this page. If the error persists please contact the site maintainer. Thank you for your patience. ************** Which in my opinion does not make sense. I intedended for only one var to be set, and leave the others non-existing alone. I get this error when I only set the company_name, and I expect my query to be: select company_name,ticker,primary_exchange from company_index where company_index like 'Value I passed%' Shouldn't sqltest should recognize that, and not raise an error? ------------------------- I used a variation, which I don't think should be used because supposedly sqltest's job is to test if a var is set, and include it in my 'where' if it is. As you can see, I check with a <dtml-if ..> if the var is set, but I think I should not have to do it since, I think based on docs I've read, that <dtml-sqltest...> should do that. select company_name,ticker,primary_exchange from company_index <dtml-sqlgroup where> <dtml-if ticker> <dtml-sqltest ticker op=eq type=nb> </dtml-if> <dtml-if company_name> <dtml-sqltest company_name op=like type=nb> </dtml-if> <dtml-if industry_group> <dtml-sqltest industry_group op=eq type=nb> </dtml-if> <dtml-if industry_subgroup> <dtml-sqltest industry_subgroup op=eq type=nb> </dtml-if> <dtml-if market_cap> <dtml-sqltest market_cap op=eq type=nb> </dtml-if> <dtml-if market_sector> <dtml-sqltest market_sector op=eq type=nb> </dtml-if> <dtml-if primary_exchange> <dtml-sqltest primary_exchange op=eq type=nb> </dtml-if> </dtml-sqlgroup> By the way, this way does not work either, I also get an error using the above syntax: **************** Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: DatabaseError Error Value: (933, 'ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended') Troubleshooting Suggestions * The URL may be incorrect. * The parameters passed to this resource may be incorrect. * A resource that this resource relies on may be encountering an error. For more detailed information about the error, please refer to the HTML source for this page. If the error persists please contact the site maintainer. Thank you for your patience. **************** Any hints are gretly appreciated. Regards, Jorge M. -- Jorge O. zope + irclib
by Jerome Alet 12 Jun '02

12 Jun '02

Hi, Whenever I add a user+password to Zope's acl_users, I'd want to be able to register the same username + password on an internal IRC server. I've downloaded Python's irclib from SourceForge but I'm not very familiar with IRC so I don't really know how to do for sure. Does anyone have a sample code to do this sort of things ? irclib doesn't seem to be thread safe (there's such a comment in the code), does anyone have encountered any problem while using it from Zope ? Thanks in advance. Jerome Alet

RE: [Zope] Zope 2.5 and TransparentFolder incompatibility
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 12 Jun '02

All I'm saying is there are other ways to cope, since I don't think TF can be 'fixed.' Eventually, I think it is likely that I will write a product that will do something to allow "views" of folder to be a native characteristic of the UI for the product, but I don't currently have time. Creating your own product and subclassing folder should pose no real issues, since the main thing you would be hacking would be just the UI (all the core functionality of ObjectManager derived classes would still be there via inheritance). You would add an extra DTML method on the filesystem within your product to provide a limited view of the folder, using some crieteria to filter (I don't think underscore is doable, so you will have to come up with another filter scheme, by substing in id, or meta_type, or something else). Some example code (not guaranteed to work, but a place to start) is below. It assumes that you subclass folder, and create a few methods to filter results of ObjectManager API calls, and use these filtered results in DTML replacing manage_main for your custom folder. Good Luck, and I hope this makes some sense. Sean ############################### import Globals from OFS import Folder, SimpleItem, ObjectManager, PropertyManager from Globals import Persistent, Acquisition import AccessControl class CustomFilteredFolder(Folder): """Custom Folder with Enhanced UI""" __ac_permissions__=( ('View management screens', ('manage_main', 'manage_viewall')), ('View', ('index_html')), ) manage_allcontents = Folder.manage_main #standard manage_main is now going to be another tab manage_main = Globals.HTMLFile('dtml/filteredContents', globals()) #file dtml/filteredContents.dtml #ZMI Tabs, customized: code copied from OFS.Folder and modified manage_options=( ({'label':'Filtered Contents', 'action':'manage_main'}, {'label':'All Contents', 'action':'manage_allcontents'}, {'label':'View', 'action':'index_html', 'help':('OFSP','Folder_View.stx')}, )+ PropertyManager.PropertyManager.manage_options+ AccessControl.Role.RoleManager.manage_options+ SimpleItem.Item.manage_options+ FindSupport.FindSupport.manage_options ) meta_type="Filtered View Folder" def __init__(self, id): """Initialize CustomFilteredFolder Instance""" Folder.__init__(self, id) self.hiddenObjectsIdPattern = ('sql') #assumption would be that if the string 'sql' appeared within #the id, that it would be hidden/filtered self.hiddenObjectsMetaTypes = ('Z SQL Method') #or, this could be done with a meta_type def objectItemsFiltered(self): """Filter results of OM.objectItems""" #unimplemented do something here def objectIdsFiltered(self): """Filter results of OM.objectIds""" #unimplemented do something here def objectValuesFiltered(self): """Filter results of OM.objectValues""" #unimplemented do something here ### Note: DTML for the filtered views would use objectItemsFiltered, where ### normally, it would use objectItems() instead (i.e. manage_allcontents ### would still use OM methods. -----Original Message----- From: Howard Hansen [mailto:zope@halfmagic.com] Sent: Monday, June 10, 2002 4:59 PM To: sean.upton(a)uniontrib.com; dirk.datzert(a)rasselstein-hoesch.de Cc: zope(a)zope.org; ct(a)gocept.com Subject: Re: [Zope] Zope 2.5 and TransparentFolder incompatibility Thanks for the response Sean, but could we try this again? This is not the answer I want to hear. Could you start your message with something like: "I've patched TF so it will work perfectly with 2.5 and all subsequent versions...." ;-) Seriously, this is not the first time I've heard the "TransparentFolders Considered Harmful" argument, and at some level I'm inclined to agree. Just not at the level of someone who has to wade through tons of dinky objects in his ZMI, nor at the level of someone who has to change lots of his code to account for other changes. It's too bad we can't use an underscore at the beginning of an object's id. Then we could have a "Hidden Contents" tab in the ZMI and view them that way. This would give us one transparent folder in each folder. A boy can dream. This leads me to a different question: how safe (or stable) is it to subclass folder and add some new behaviors to it? People blithely talk about doing it all the time, but my Zope sites total between 2000 and 5000 hits an hour. I get concerned about maintaining stability and performance. Obviously bad coding = bad performance and/or instability, but assuming competent coding, can I expect my subclassed folder to work as well as Folder? Gadfly commit/abort
by Dennis Allison 12 Jun '02

12 Jun '02

I am helping a friend who is using Gadfly. I've looked at the on-line documents but have not found the information I need. The source code site appears to be down... So, here's the problem. Gadfly supports commit and abort (rollback). From python, the interface to these features is via methods applied to the connection object. Our question, how does one commit or rollback Gadfly from DTML. I looked at the Gadflyu DB adaptor, but I couldn't find the functionality. From the Gadfly documentation it appears the SQL 'COMMIT' and 'ROLLBACK' commands are not handled by Gadfly proper. -d

Limit on ZSQLMethods?
by Chris Meyers 11 Jun '02

11 Jun '02

Is there a limit to the number of records a ZSQLMethod can return, something like 1000 records? I ask this, because I am making a tabbed delimited list of records for a Pittney Bowes mail export, and my record set keeps getting capped at 1000 records. I am not setting an explicit limit in my ZSQLMethod, so my suspicion falls on Zope protecting me from large loops. I am already working on moving my DB query out into an External Method, but I was just curious if the limit existed and if there was another way around it. Thanks Chris Meyers I don't want the world, I just want your half --TMBG

RE: [Zope] Backup & restore zope
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 11 Jun '02

I'm pretty sure that there is software for Solaris that will do the same sort of thing for volume of filesystem snapshots; I think a company called StorageTek has software that does this in conjunction with Veritas Volume Management software... Sean -----Original Message----- From: Paul Horbal [mailto:horbal@atips.ca] Sent: Tuesday, June 11, 2002 12:45 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Backup & restore zope Well, I'm running on Solaris, so that option is out... =) I think the note that Zope appends to Data.fs pretty much eases all my fears. The setup I have now seems to be working... It's a cron job running early each morning, using rsync to duplicate the entire Zope tree onto another machine. This might seem a little excessive, but keep in mind that rsync only does diffs, not entire copies. Also, there is a different backup for each day of the week. So at any given time, I have seven complete backups of my entire Zope directory. Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Mr. Burns brings in the ringers for his baseball team: "Three misfortunes, that's possible. Seven misfortunates, there's an outside chance. But nine misfortunes? I'd like to see that!'" =) ----- Original Message ----- From: <sean.upton(a)uniontrib.com> To: <horbal(a)vlsi.enel.ucalgary.ca>; <zope(a)zope.org> Sent: Tuesday, June 11, 2002 1:36 PM Subject: RE: [Zope] Backup & restore zope > Something like LFS under Linux with Snapshot capabilities might be useful in > this kind of case, because you can leverage this to back up a file at a > particular slice in time. Redirect Console Output
by Jim Kutter 11 Jun '02

11 Jun '02

Hi Folks A few questions - a) I run zope on a remote server, and I would like to redirect it's console output to a log file. The standard "start [options] 2>&1 > console.log &" Doesn't work. Do I have to muck with the source of Z2.py? b) Has anyone experienced stability problems with the current version 2.5.1 (binary release, linux). I've managed to have webdav problems and ftp server crashes. I've also tried with locally compiled Python 2.1.3 and the source release of 2.5.1. Would Running an earlier version mean it's more stable? I'm using RedHat 6.1. Thanks -jim

making a string html safe
by Alexander Westholm 11 Jun '02

11 Jun '02

Hi. I'm trying to html quote a zope object's ID, so that I can have spaces within it without erroring out. Clearly Zope's code handles this, as you can create objects with spaces in their IDs etc... Where does this get done? A glance at OFS/Folder.py yields no constructor (only class initializer). Where does that take place in zope's inheritance hierarchy? Failing all of that, are there any python standard library functions that can handle this, or anything in zope? cgi.escape (which is called by the html_quote in the DocumentTemplate module) doesn't do this completely... Many thanks. -- Alex

ZCatalog Index: bobobase_modification_time, Zope251/Linux
by Juergen R. Plasser / Hexagon 11 Jun '02

11 Jun '02

Hi! I have implemented some catalog aware ZClasses and reindex the objects after property change with: <dtml-call reindex_object>. The catalog index is up to date, but not the bobobase_modification_time. This index field is always one "reindex-step" behind. I have read about that on this list some time ago but can't find the posting. Is it possible to index the last valid modification time? Juergen
