XML in Zope
by Dan Shafer 16 May '02

I had in mind to use DTML documents as the storage mechanism for the main documents at the core of an application I'm building for a client, but it turns out they are going to need to do some things that would be pretty cumbersome in a DTML document or method. So I'm investigating using XML for these documents. Searching zope.org turns up a lot of stuff about XML but, as far as I can tell, only one product: XMLDocument. But it describes itself as out of date and replaced by ParsedXML, which, as far as I can tell, hasn't had a product release yet. I can't tell from the ZQR which XML implementation it is documenting. This is all made more complex by the fact that I cannot for the life of me get an external script using any of the xml library stuff to run, but I'm not asking for help with that at the moment. I'm trying to work my way through it. So should I download and install the XMLDocument product and use it from DTML (ugh) or is there a better way to do this?

setuid, setgid, secondary groups and inheritance
by dman 16 May '02

Note: I've crossposted both the debian-user and zope lists because this issue relates to both. Do the Right Thing with replies (and I won't complain if I happen to get a duplicate copy one way or another). I am using Debian GNU/Linux (x86) with kernel 2.4.18, libc6 2.2.5-6, and zope 2.5.1-1. After zope (z2.py) calls setuid() and setgid() to drop its root privileges the following odd results are seen : o it properly switches to www-data:www-data o it retains the privilege of all the secondary groups root had (root and lpadmin) o it does NOT obtain the privilege of any of www-data's secondary groups This can be observed by adding the lines print "before" os.system( "groups" ) print "after" os.system( "groups" ) around the code where the setuid/setgid calls are and watching the terminal that zope is started from. The effect this had was to make roundup not work. I've temporarily worked around this by adding root to the 'rsupport' group (which www-data is already in). Does anyone know why zope would display the above misbehavior with respect to group membership? I think it is a bug somewhere, but I don't know where (or how to solve it). manage_changeProperties Question
by complaw＠hal-pc.org 15 May '02

I need to interate through a set of objects (in this case, DTML Documents) and set a particular boolean property to FALSE. I looked at the documentation, and found something similar in the Zope Book. However, something must be missing in the translation, because the following code... <dtml-in expr="objectValues('DTML Document')"> <dtml-call expr="manage_changeProperty(on_host_committee=0)"> </dtml-in> .. generates an attribute error, namely: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: manage_changeProperty Troubleshooting Suggestions * The URL may be incorrect. * The parameters passed to this resource may be incorrect. * A resource that this resource relies on may be encountering an error. Automatic content expiration in the CMF...
by Jeff Ross 15 May '02

15 May '02

I was wondering if anyone has tackled this. I thought that Zope would automatically expire content (set the review_state to private), once the expiration_date on the content is passed. How can I do this with DCWorkflow? I've tried to set up an automatic transition, but it doesn't do anything. Do I have to write a background task to do this, and if so, how is that done? Thanks, Jeff

Re: [Zope] Kinterbasdb + Firebird + Zope Q's

David, Thanks, the ZFirebirdDA product no longer complains about the missing kinterbasdb module. However, it now complains about the mxDateTime module: File "C:\Telonyx\lib\python\Products\ZFireBirdDA\kinterbasdb.py", line 17, in ? import _kinterbasdb AttributeError: 'DateTime' module has no attribute 'mxDateTimeAPI' I have found the mxDatetime distutil but this brings me back to my original problem. What is the proper procedure for installing python distutils (like mxDateTime) for Zopes built-in python interpreter? I cant find it documented anywhere. Anyways, thanks for all the help and: ********If anyone reading this can tell me how to install/make available to Zope the mxDateTime distutil please drop me a note********* Derek Basch --- David Marko <dmarko(a)digi-trade.cz> wrote: > Ahoj Derek, (how it is that you speak czech?) > here is the compete product. Re: [Zope] Kinterbasdb + Firebird + Zope Q's
by Derek Basch 15 May '02

Ahoj Stanislav, Thank you VERY much for the reply. I have copies of ZFirebirdDA and Kinterbasdb. What I can not figure out is how to make python extensions accesable to Zope. For instance when I add the ZFirebirdDA Zope Product I get this import traceback: Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\PROGRA~1\TelOnyx\lib\python\OFS\Application.py", line 531, in import_product product=__import__(pname, global_dict, global_dict, silly) File "C:\PROGRA~1\TelOnyx\lib\python\Products\ZFireBirdDA\__init__.py", line 91, in ? import DA File "C:\PROGRA~1\TelOnyx\lib\python\Products\ZFireBirdDA\DA.py", line 91, in ? from db import DB File "C:\PROGRA~1\TelOnyx\lib\python\Products\ZFireBirdDA\db.py", line 25, in ? import kinterbasdb, DateTime ImportError: No module named kinterbasdb The KinterbasDB extensions are available as a pyhton distutil but the distutil will not detect my zope server. It will only find my ActivePython interpreter. So I tried compiling the source using the free Borland Compiler but the setup.py file fails. I have never had to use a python extension (I stared programming with python 4 months ago). What are the proper steps for using KinterbasDB (or any python extension) with Zope. akujem vm, Derek Basch Portland Oregon USA --- Stanislav Marszalek <smarszalek(a)digi-trade.cz> wrote: > I use ZOPE with Firebird on Win2000 Prof. with no > problem. zope with multiple websites
by Fearless Froggie 15 May '02

15 May '02

Hi, I'm trying to plan out what content management system we should be going with and I really like what zope has to offer. I've gone through the zope site in great detail, and googled till my eyes are ready it fall out, but I'm not a sys admin so there are a couple of really basic questions I really haven't been able to get my head around. Some time in the next few months we will be getting a colocated server to run our websites on, and I'm wondering what the best way to install zope would be. Most of the server will be taken up by webct (a web-based program used to serve educational courses over the net), and I'd like to install zope along side it to run 4-5 other websites. Would I be able to install a separate instance of zope for each website, or should I be installing one instance of zope and simply point the IP address to different sections of the directory tree? I know the ISP that currently hosts our websites has multiple instances of apache installed under solaris. I assume that multiple instances of apached, zope, etc can also be installed under Linux? We'll have a real sys admin to install everything on our live server, but I need to install zope now on a test server and I'd like to set it up the same way as it'll be set up later when its live. Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I'm trying to make the initial install stage as painless as possible. Trial and error is an amazing learning tool, but my head's already a bit sore from banging it against wall. I'm hoping to get to the interesting programming/planning part as soon as possible :) Thanks! Rita Mikusch __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? LAUNCH - Your Yahoo! ZWiki, file uploads: how ?
by Marcio Marchini 15 May '02

15 May '02

Hi, I was looking at the release notes for ZWiki 0.9.9 and it claims to support file uploads. After looking at http://www.zwiki.org/UploadsModificationDiffs I figured I should add a folder named "uploads" under my ZWiki, set the permissions as defined and I'd be set. I thought that at this point I'd have an [UPLOAD FILE] link or something, like I have with TWiki. Nope. I am browsing the site but documentation on how to enable file uploads is, err, scarce. Anybody out there willing to give some help ? Thanks !! marcio
