setuid, setgid, secondary groups and inheritance

Note: I've crossposted both the debian-user and zope lists because this issue relates to both. Do the Right Thing with replies (and I won't complain if I happen to get a duplicate copy one way or another). I am using Debian GNU/Linux (x86) with kernel 2.4.18, libc6 2.2.5-6, and zope 2.5.1-1. After zope (z2.py) calls setuid() and setgid() to drop its root privileges the following odd results are seen : o it properly switches to www-data:www-data o it retains the privilege of all the secondary groups root had (root and lpadmin) o it does NOT obtain the privilege of any of www-data's secondary groups This can be observed by adding the lines print "before" os.system( "groups" ) print "after" os.system( "groups" ) around the code where the setuid/setgid calls are and watching the terminal that zope is started from. The effect this had was to make roundup not work. I've temporarily worked around this by adding root to the 'rsupport' group (which www-data is already in). Does anyone know why zope would display the above misbehavior with respect to group membership? I think it is a bug somewhere, but I don't know where (or how to solve it). I need to interate through a set of objects (in this case, DTML Documents) and set a particular boolean property to FALSE. I looked at the documentation, and found something similar in the Zope Book. Automatic content expiration in the CMF...

I was wondering if anyone has tackled this. I thought that Zope would automatically expire content (set the review_state to private), once the expiration_date on the content is passed. How can I do this with DCWorkflow? I've tried to set up an automatic transition, but it doesn't do anything. Do I have to write a background task to do this, and if so, how is that done? David, Thanks, the ZFirebirdDA product no longer complains about the missing kinterbasdb module. However, it now complains about the mxDateTime module: File "C:\Telonyx\lib\python\Products\ZFireBirdDA\kinterbasdb.py", line 17, in ? import _kinterbasdb AttributeError: 'DateTime' module has no attribute 'mxDateTimeAPI' I have found the mxDatetime distutil but this brings me back to my original problem. What is the proper procedure for installing python distutils (like mxDateTime) for Zopes built-in python interpreter? I cant find it documented anywhere. Ahoj Stanislav, Thank you VERY much for the reply. I have copies of ZFirebirdDA and Kinterbasdb. What I can not figure out is how to make python extensions accesable to Zope. getId of nesting document

I have a standard_html_header in which I would like to be able to publish the Id of the document which calls it. but when if I use <dtml-var getId> I get 'standard_html_header' rather than the name of the document USING standard_html_header. How can I get the Id of the nesting document? Thanks joshua

zope with multiple websites

Hi, I'm trying to plan out what content management system we should be going with and I really like what zope has to offer. I've gone through the zope site in great detail, and googled till my eyes are ready it fall out, but I'm not a sys admin so there are a couple of really basic questions I really haven't been able to get my head around. Some time in the next few months we will be getting a colocated server to run our websites on, and I'm wondering what the best way to install zope would be. Most of the server will be taken up by webct (a web-based program used to serve educational courses over the net), and I'd like to install zope along side it to run 4-5 other websites. Would I be able to install a separate instance of zope for each website, or should I be installing one instance of zope and simply point the IP address to different sections of the directory tree? I know the ISP that currently hosts our websites has multiple instances of apache installed under solaris. I assume that multiple instances of apached, zope, etc can also be installed under Linux? We'll have a real sys admin to install everything on our live server, but I need to install zope now on a test server and I'd like to set it up the same way as it'll be set up later when its live. Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I'm trying to make the initial install stage as painless as possible. Trial and error is an amazing learning tool, but my head's already a bit sore from banging it against wall. ZWiki, file uploads: how ?

Hi, I was looking at the release notes for ZWiki 0.9.9 and it claims to support file uploads. After looking at http://www.zwiki.org/UploadsModificationDiffs I figured I should add a folder named "uploads" under my ZWiki, set the permissions as defined and I'd be set. I thought that at this point I'd have an [UPLOAD FILE] link or something, like I have with TWiki. Nope. I am browsing the site but documentation on how to enable file uploads is, err, scarce. Anybody out there willing to give some help ? Thanks !! marcio

What I want is that when the user type: www.oldsite.com he will be fordwared to www.myzope.com/folder1/folder2/website/ without knowing it and he won't see www.oldsite.com/folder1/folder2/webite in the address bar. He will see the old address. Anyway, thanks for your reply.
