Hi to you ! I installed a new product and its first ZClass (the example in the book from beehive). When I wanted to add my first 'buch' object, I got the following strange error: Let's see, if you have an idea!? cu, Florian Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/local/dc/Zope-2.5.0/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 150, in publish_module File /usr/local/dc/Zope-2.5.0/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 114, in publish File /usr/local/dc/Zope-2.5.0/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 158, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: BuchClass_factory) File /usr/local/dc/Zope-2.5.0/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 98, in publish File /usr/local/dc/Zope-2.5.0/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 88, in mapply (Object: BuchClass_add) File /usr/local/dc/Zope-2.5.0/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 39, in call_object (Object: BuchClass_add) File /usr/local/dc/Zope-2.5.0/lib/python/OFS/DTMLMethod.py, line 127, in __call__ (Object: BuchClass_add) File /usr/local/dc/Zope-2.5.0/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_String.py, line 473, in __call__ (Object: BuchClass_add) File /usr/local/dc/Zope-2.5.0/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_With.py, line 61, in render (Object: BuchClass.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['ArtNr'], REQUEST)) File /usr/local/dc/Zope-2.5.0/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_Util.py, line 159, in eval (Object: BuchClass.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['ArtNr'], REQUEST)) (Info: REQUEST) File <string>, line 2, in f NameError: global name 'BuchClass' is not defined (-- it is!!) cu Florian ______________________________________________________________________________ Für alle, die nicht genug WEB.DE bekommen können. 100 MB Speicher, 01212-Nummer und mehr E-Mail unter http://club.web.de/?mc=021101

property to method and back again
by Mark James Adams 05 Apr '02

Hello: I seem to have broken a ZClass that I'm developing. The ZClass represents a foreign language video of people speaking different words that sound similar. The instructor wanted a way to have the phrase associated with the video (which is also the video's title) come up with colored markings for the part of the phrase being emphasized in the video. For example, one video/phrase is 'vliezig-vlezig', where the 'ie' in the first word and the 'e' in the second word are highlighted. I wrote some code that, given a marked-up phrase like 'vl$ie$ig-vl$e$ig', return a HTML/CSS marked-up version, color-coding the letters between the '$'-signs. However, I still wanted to title to come up without any kind of markup, so I moved the marked-up title (with the dollar signs) to a new property, and deleted the title property. I then created a Python method called 'title' in the ZClass, which would return a non-marked up title. But now I get "KeyError: title" everytime a try to view the methods in the ZClass. I wrote a script to examine the ZClass, and placed it in the ZClass's product's folder: <dtml-in "MyZClass.propertysheets.methods.objectIds()"> <p><dtml-var sequence-item> </dtml-in> This script returns the following: method1 method2 etc.. title So the 'title' python script is obviously in the ZClass, but if I try to access: /Control_Panel/Products/MyProduct/MyZClass/propertysheets/methods/title/manage_main I get, "Site Error: Resource not found". Any ideas on what the problem is, and how I can correct it? If worse comes to worse, I'm able to directly access all of the methods in my ZClass (except for title), so I can always delete the ZClass and then recreate it. Thanks. -- Mark James Adams mark(a)raysend.com

FYI: Zope Book Now in BackTalk
by Chris McDonough 05 Apr '02

05 Apr '02

The online browsable HTML version of Amos' and Michel's Zope Book has been converted to use the BackTalk system, which allows inline annotation via "comment" links. See the new version at http://www.zope.org/Documentation/ZopeBook/ . The "old" URL to the book (http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB) redirects to the new URL. Soon the Sourceforge project for the Zope Book (particularly the bug tracker) will be shut down in favor of using BackTalk to deal with commentary and editing. Thanks! - C

I realize my first an oracle connection ;-)
by FR Chalaoux 05 Apr '02

05 Apr '02

Hi, Thanks to Z.org (DC) I compiled DCOracle2 on a sun machine with Zope-2.4.1 and the result is there ;-) I did a connection to an Oracle instance (8.1.7) of my machine and an another a local network machine hosting the same kind of installation. The connection were realize from the first one. It was really difficult to catch the right information on Zope.org and related mailing-lists, howtos, etc. 2 or 3 adaptaters were proposed in Products panel but only DCOracle2 gave me the power to connect me rapidly !! The others DA mixed with DCOracle2 or DCOracle gave me troubles in their explanations and their explanations again. Is DCOracle2 really suffisant to work fully with Oracle or do I need an anther Adpatator Product ? FR

Pystones & Zope Performance
by Matthew T. Kromer 05 Apr '02

For all concerned: Pystones are an excellent predictor of Zope performance. The pystone program is typically located in $PYTHONPATH/tests/pystone.py -- you run this with your favorite version of Python to get an indicator of how fast your particular system can process Python instructions. Here's a few sample systems I use, all using Python 2.1 as a benchmark python: Intel Celeron 400: 4651 pystones [11.63 * Mhz] UltraSPARC IIe 500: 5556 pystones [11.11 * Mhz] Intel Celeron 500: 5714 pystones [11.43 * Mhz] PowerPC G4 500: 6289 pystones [12.58 * Mhz] Intel Celeron 500: 6849 pystones [13.69 * Mhz] (optimized Python) Intel Pentium III 1Ghz: 12048 pystones [12.05 * Mhz] AMD Athlon XP 2000+: 25756 pystones [15.67 * Mhz, 12.88 * Rating] (ActiveState python) Note that this isn't a very highly scientific sampling; I haven't done lots of averaging and smoothing and data washing, etc. Pystones are pretty closely tied to clock speed (duh!) but are perturbed by CPU and compiler. I tend to accept a figure of roughly 12 * Mhz as a fairly accurate predictor of Python performance. Zope, being an enormous Python program, is highly sensitive to how fast Python can interpret. Thus, you'll find that Zope speeds scale up with CPU speeds. It is probably worth pointing out that the architecture of the CPU isn't nearly as dominant as its clock speed; a UltraSPARC or a PowerPC G4 does not perform much differently than a Pentium or Athlon. It also shows (for you Athlon fans out there) that the Athlon marketing number is fairly accurate with respect to the equivalent Intel performance, i.e. Athlons get about 22% more work done per clock than a Pentium III -- I don't have any Pentium IVs around to test with. I doubt any of this is earth shattering news. The primary conclusion I would draw from this is that you want to optimize clock rate over any other factor for good Zope performance. When considering fitting Zope to various vendor hardware, consider the cost per cycle; SPARC suffers here considerably. -- Matt Kromer Zope Corporation http://www.zope.com/

HTMLWithImages.py
by Tom Deprez 05 Apr '02

05 Apr '02

Hi, I'm looking at the HTMLWithImages.py file in the StructuredText folder. Now, in the document method, I can see if hasattr(doc, 'key'): Now, I know what this code means, but I do not know how to put 'key' in the structured text so that it will be used by the parser... Anybody an idea? thanks, Tom.

Problem with Simple Python Product
by Luca Manini 05 Apr '02

05 Apr '02

Hi, I'm writing a simple Python Product, following the lines of two well known examples (Poll and Minimal). The Product imports fine, but when I try do add an instance to a Folder, thus accessing http://localhost:9673/tests/manage_addProduct/Work/addPerson Zope ask for authentication (I'm already in the ZMI). The product is very simple: __init__.py initialize... IPerson.py class IPerson (interface) TPerson.py class TPerson (implementation) Person.py class Person (Zope class) and more The only difference I see with the Poll example is that I seperate the pure Python class (than should be usable out of Zope) from the "Zope" one, and the fact that I do not declare any security stuff (but Minimal does the same). It is not clear to me which methods of the Person should eventually get security declarations. I suppone only does that will be called "through the Web", so, for example, the constructor will not need them. I also suppose that the security info for the Person.age method, that is inherited from TPerson.age, could be declared in Person.py like security.declarePublic ('age') Anyway I think the stuff should work even without security (or not?). Any hint? TIA Luca. Here goes the code: ### __init__.py ======================================== from Person import Person, addPersonForm, addPerson def initialize(context): context.registerClass( Person, constructors = (addPersonForm, addPerson), ) ### IPerson.py ======================================== import Interface class IPerson (Interface.Base): """ Person Interface""" def name(self): """ The name """ def age(self): """ The age """ ### TPerson.py ======================================== import IPerson class TPerson: """ A Person - implementing IPerson""" __implements__ = IPerson.IPerson def __init__(self, name='Foo', age=18): self.name = name self.age = age def name(self): """ The name """ return self.name def age(self): """ The age """ return self.age def __str__(self): return "name: %s \t age: %d" % (self.name, self.age) ### Person.py ======================================== ### standard base classes from Acquisition import Implicit from Globals import Persistent from AccessControl.Role import RoleManager from OFS.SimpleItem import Item ### more Zope stuff from Globals import DTMLFile from AccessControl import ClassSecurityInfo ### Problem domain pure Python classes from TPerson import TPerson ### Constructor addPersonForm = DTMLFile ('dtml/addPerson', globals()) def addPerson (dispatcher, id, name, age): """ Create person and add to Destination """ ob = Person (id, name, age) dispatcher.Destination()._setObject (id, ob) ### Classes class Person(TPerson, Implicit, Persistent, RoleManager, Item): """ A Zope Person """ meta_type = "Work Person" def __init__(self, id, name, age): """ Initialize a Person """ self.id = id TPerson.__init__(name, age) ### addPerson.dtml <html> <head> <title>Add Poll</title> </head> <body> <form action="addPerson"> <br/> id <input name="id"> <br/> name <input name="name"> <br/> age <input name="age:int"> <br/><input type="submit" name=" OK "> </form> </body> </html>
