Hello Jens >one exception where the security machinery will not check are simply python >types (the return values from a ZSQL method are objects that contain the >results and not simple types), such as strings, lists, dictionaries etc. so >if you use an external method to get the result set and then convert it >inside the external method to such a simple type and hand that back to DTML >you will see a marked increase in speed. consider this: recordset = context.retrieve_all_contacts().dictionaries() for record in recordset: for key in record.keys(): print key, "=", record[key] from my how-to http://www.zope.org/Members/spinwing/ZSQL_Results. In this case, is Zope applying security as well? This is an internal python script. This is interesting for me so that I can include it in the how-to. Regards Stefano

RE: [Zope] W2K Cron Question: Solved
by hpinson＠indepthl.com 04 Apr '02

The Xron product, did the trick. Xron is a product that allows a timed event to be triggered internal to Zope. What I did was; install the product, and add an instance. This places a schedule object (Z Catalog I think) in your site root, and and Xron DTML method wherever locally you want it. Give it an ID, Execute At (starting time, in some time format Zope understands), and Reschedule Interval (nightly in my case). Then add dtml to the method (in this case a method that calls a python script that calls ZSQL directly.) It seems to work very well. Now a question. How stable is Xron? It still seems to be in development. Harlow Pinson Indepth Learning Email: hpinson(a)indepthl.com Web: http://www.indepthl.com Voice: 505-994-2135 FAX: 208-475-7678

RE: [Zope] More trouble with METAL and python product

How/where do I find out about METAL, ZPTs and python products? I'm working in CMF. I want to the metadata_edit_form and associated files to use an existing xml schema to generate the meta data elements. I'm having some difficulty determining how the files relate to each other. -----Original Message----- From: Peter Bengtsson [mailto:mail@peterbe.com] Sent: Thursday, April 04, 2002 10:01 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] More trouble with METAL and python product Now I see what is wrong but not how to fix it. I've got this python product that uses ZPTs and METAL. When I first visit index_html I get a cryptic error message saying something about the METAL definition. The template that holds the METAL macro is called StandardLook and is defined like this: PTF = PageTemplateFile StandardLook = PTF('zpt/StandardLook', globals(), __name__='StandardLook') index_html = PTF('zpt/index_html', globals()) If I then visit StandardLook it works; and thirdly I go to index_html again and it works. From then on it works fine. After I refresh the product the same problem occurs again. Again.... 1. I refresh the product --> no error 2. http://localhost/myinstance/index_html --> Error!! 3. http://localhost/myinstance/StandardLook --> no error 4. http://localhost/myinstance/index_html --> no error It's obvious that the StandardLook instance needs to be rendered once so that Zope can remember that that is the macro template. How do I solve this? What needs to be done? xml-rpc and binary data & ZServer/medusa/rpc_server.py
by Thomas Guettler 04 Apr '02

Hi! Can somone tell me what kind of rpc ZServer/medusa/rpc_server.py provides? I am searching an alternative to xml-rpc becaues xml-rpc does only allow base64 encoded binary data. Is there a way to handle encoding and decoding of binary data transparently? (Without writing a wrapper or changing the source of zope) thomas

stressing script for zope-app
by Rudi Wurm 04 Apr '02

04 Apr '02

Hi all, does anyone has a suggestion, how i can intercept the http-requests send to my zope-server when clicking on links/form buttons and store them externaly in say a file ? i need to make a stress-script which simulates a user accessing my site to have some numbers for the over-all performance of my site., because in production it will be used by many users in parallel, and i have no real clue how my code and/or zope scales. intercepting them would be easier because when i change code i could easily regenerate them and start the test-clients again. Any hints about the performance in general, its testing and about scaling-experiences would be very welcome. Torsten

Hi Stoons As I follow the discussion we are talking about a mascot!!! That's got nothing to do with the logo in my opinion! The Z-Logo that is present is OK as is. So please keep on using a track "Mascot". Regards Oliver

Zope and Databases
by Richard Hewison 04 Apr '02

04 Apr '02

Our Zope 2.4.3 install is running on a SuSE Linux 7.3 server and we want to connect to an Oracle database which is sitting on a different server; a Sun Solaris based machine running OS 5.8 with Oracle Enterprise Edition 8.1.7.0 installed. We have downloaded the DCOracle2 product (for Red Hat Linux 7.1, Python 2.1) but we aren't using Red Hat and we seem unable to get the product to install properly. It complains about the ORACLE_HOME. Also, skimming through the documentation is extremely confusing. As far as we can tell, the docs seem to assume that the Oracle Database is installed (or to be installed) on the same server as the one that runs Zope. In our scenario, this isn't the case. Basically, how can we discover the correct ORACLE_HOME info from the Sun box and what else do we need to do with DCOracle2 to get it connecting to our Oracle database? (We know very little about Oracle if you can't tell already!). Richard H.

stab at ZMailman?
by Paul Zwarts 04 Apr '02

04 Apr '02

Greetings, I'm a bit confused. Im trying out Zmailman on the latest release of zope (not beta) and I get the following traceback from the ZMI product info page: Traceback (innermost last): File "/var/ZDevelopment/lib/python/OFS/Application.py", line 528, in import_products product=__import__(pname, global_dict, global_dict, silly) File "/var/ZDevelopment/lib/python/Products/ZMailman/__init__.py", line 7, in ? from Products.ZMailman import MailmanFolder File "/var/ZDevelopment/lib/python/Products/ZMailman/MailmanFolder.py", line 9, in ? from Products.PageTemplates.PageTemplateFile import PageTemplateFile ImportError: No module named PageTemplates.PageTemplateFile However, PageTemplates.PageTemplateFile does exist and there seems to be no error regarding it. Is it looking for the PageTemplates from when it was a separate product? TIA, Paul Zwarts
