Stability HOWTO
by Matthew T. Kromer 26 Feb '02

26 Feb '02

I've put together a document describing most of our recent stability issues, and their solutions, up on http://www.zope.org/Members/matt/StabilityHOWTO Included in the document is a number of tips for trying to tweak zope if you are having problems to narrow down a probable cause. Note that to the best of our knowledge, Zope 2.5.1 and Zope 2.4.4 (both beta releases) in conjunction with Python 2.1.2 solve all known *Zope* problems. However, other products may have their own issues; part of the job of this HOWTO is to provide some degree of guidelines for how to report a problem to Zope, such that Zope Corporation and the Zope community can perform diagnosis and produce a remedy. -- Matt Kromer Zope Corporation http://www.zope.com/

Experiences with big ZODB?
by Thomas Guettler 26 Feb '02

26 Feb '02

I tested ZODB with a size of 2GB with a own python product for zope. My experience is that it can be used for applications if you design your product right (Using BTrees) and if you have a python with support for large files. Are there any problems I might experience with such a big ZODB (about 8GB)? I have to decide whether to use ZODB or a relational database. I would prefere ZODB. Any comments? thomas

I am trying to follow this (Apache-DSO-Fastcgi-Zope-ZEO installation) howto but using python 2.2 instead of python 2.1.2. ASC / DESC in queries`?
by Jan Johansson 26 Feb '02

26 Feb '02

Uhhhhm, dare i ask another question? What is the correct way (if any) to insert "Asc"/"Desc" arguments in a SQL statement? using dtml-var migth not be clever, since you could insert hostile code, and dtml-sqlvar quotes the values so it inserts 'DESC' instead of DESC.

Re: [Zope] another one IS split date

26 Feb '02

>I'm trying to reformat a date that I'm getting from our Sybase server. I >get it in yyyy/mm/dd format and I'm trying to change it to mm/dd/yyyy >format. I've created a DTML method called fixDate that looks like this: > ><dtml-call expr="REQUEST.set('date', _.str(date))"> ><dtml-let newDate="date.split('/')" month="newDate[1]" day="newDate[2]" >year="newDate[0]"> ><dtml-var month>/<dtml-var day>/<dtml-var year> ></dtml-let> > >It works if I call http://www.ourdomain.com/fixDate?date=2002/12/25, but >if I try to use it from a DTML document I get: > >Error Type: NameError >Error Value: global name 'REQUEST' is not defined > >If I take out the first line then I get: > >Error Type: AttributeError >Error Value: split > >which is what prompted me to put it in to begin with. Any ideas? 1: date has no split method, string module has. use like _.string.split( YourString) 2: calling DTML Methods w parameters is beautiful explained in http://zdp.zope.org/projects/zsnippet/snippets/DTMLTags/CallingDTMLMethods or read http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB, appendix A&B 3: still too amitious. better use inline <dtml-let newDate=" _.str(date)" year="newDate[:3]" month="newDate[5:6] day="newDate[-2:]" year="newDate[0]"> <dtml-var month>/<dtml-var day>/<dtml-var year> </dtml-let> cheers -- -------------------------------------------------------------- hans augustin (software developer) hans(a)beehive.de beehive elektronische medien GmbH http://www.beehive.de phone: +49 30 847-82 0 fax: +49 30 847-82 299

frame implementation in zope
by Hamzal Kamal 26 Feb '02

26 Feb '02

Hi, I have fair understanding of how zope objects are acquired by defining the index_html. Then my client don't want the logo and the name company's name to scroll when visitor scroll up the screen. how do I use frame structure in zope to achieve this? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Re: [Zope] stack error with Python 2.1.2

The problem is more that the Zope code in 2.4.3 and earlier is _broken_. Busted. Incorrect. Wrong. Corrupter of memory, destroyer of data, eater of souls. Python 2.1.1 would silently continue and at some point in the future would crash and burn, maybe. The Zope code includes it's own version of the standard Compiler package. Until 2.4.4 is out, your best hope is to run the 2.4.4 beta. Anthony -- Anthony Baxter <anthony(a)interlink.com.au> It's never to late to have a happy childhood.
