Re: [Zope] stack error with Python 2.1.2

This has been covered on many occasions on the list so far (check the archives), but the short form of it is that the python Compiler module (used, as RestrictedCompiler, in Zope2.4's PythonScripts) has a serious error in that it undercalculates stack size in some circumstances. This caused stackstompage, with data corruption. Whether or not this causes your Zope to crash mysteriously every now and then, or to corrupt data, is _entirely_ a matter of luck. > I take it you had a bad experience with one of 2.4.3's more > serious bugs? :) Well, yes. See the list archives for more. Here's a hint: if this bug hadn't been so serious, would I have burned the enormous number of hours that I did to make the Python2.1.2 release happen? -- Anthony Baxter <anthony(a)interlink.com.au> It's never to late to have a happy childhood.

another one
by D. Rick Anderson 25 Feb '02

I'm trying to reformat a date that I'm getting from our Sybase server. I get it in yyyy/mm/dd format and I'm trying to change it to mm/dd/yyyy format. I've created a DTML method called fixDate that looks like this: <dtml-call expr="REQUEST.set('date', _.str(date))"> <dtml-let newDate="date.split('/')" month="newDate[1]" day="newDate[2]" year="newDate[0]"> <dtml-var month>/<dtml-var day>/<dtml-var year> </dtml-let> It works if I call http://www.ourdomain.com/fixDate?date=2002/12/25, but if I try to use it from a DTML document I get: Error Type: NameError Error Value: global name 'REQUEST' is not defined If I take out the first line then I get: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: split which is what prompted me to put it in to begin with. Any ideas? TIA Rick

Upgrading to Zope 2.5 database problems
by J.C.Mcnulty＠open.ac.uk 25 Feb '02

25 Feb '02

Hi all, Has anyone had problems when upgrading to Zope 2.5? I did exactly what I normally do when upgrading the product, but when I copy the database across and try to run Zope it stops itself after approximately 10 seconds. I can import the portals to the database created by the install and that runs OK but then all the dates are incorrect. I am currently running Zope 2.4.3. Spec: CMF 1.2 Python 2.1.1 Many Thanks James

Redirecting URLs in Zope for renamed top-level folder
by Hamish Lawson 25 Feb '02

25 Feb '02

I plan to rename a top-level folder from A to B, but I'd like all users' old /A/path/to/stuff bookmarks to get redirected to /B/path/to/stuff. I've tried using Redirector, Rewriter, and JRedirector products, but I am unable to find the magic incantation to get any of them to do what I want! I mention the fact that it's a top-level folder in case that accounts for the unexpected behaviour I've seen. I'm using Zope 2.4.3 with Python 2.1.1. Has anyone succeeded in doing what I want? __getitem__ method in ZClass?
by Peter Bengtsson 25 Feb '02

25 Feb '02

If this particular product was a python based one, I could easily add a def __getitem__(self, key) method to my class so that one would be able to go: <dtml-var "MyProductClassInstance['somekey']"> In a ZClass I can't add a Python Script called __getitem__ because of the underscores. Any solutions to this? Peter

Ahh, it's the old _.None thing. When you call a dtml method from dtml using the "expr" syntax, you have to pass it the namespace, which is done like this: <dtml-var expr="fixDate(_.None, _, date=item_date)"> Alternately, you can do it like this (without expr): <dtml-let date="item_date"> <dtml-var name="fixDate"> </dtml-let> or of course <dtml-var expr="REQUEST.set(date, item_date)"> <dtml-var name="fixDate"> If none of these look very nice to you, you might want to rewrite the fixDate method as a python script, which can be called without the hassles above. -Paul D. FTP Problems
by Tim Hawes 25 Feb '02

25 Feb '02

Can anybody tell me why: 1. I get FTP error periodically from Dreamweaver 4, w/o anything being registered in the Z2.log (but it did connect earlier today w/o problems). 2. Ncftp client on Linux times out when I connect to Zope. Z2.log file registers as follows: <some_ip>44024 ==> 220 hrdhhs34 FTP server (Medusa Async V1.18 [experimenta <some_ip>44024 <== USER thawes <some_ip>44024 ==> 331 Password required. <some_ip>44024 <== PASS <password> <some_ip>44024 ==> 230 Login successful. <some_ip>44024 <== PWD <some_ip>44024 ==> 257 "/" is the current directory. <some_ip>44024 <== FEAT <some_ip>44024 ==> 500 'FEAT': command not understood. <some_ip>44024 <== HELP SITE and there is nothing (session times out). 3. I can telnet to Zope at the FTP port and issue ftp commands with no problem (indicating to me that there is NO problem w/ Zope, just with clients). 4. I can edit documents just fine using Emacs 21 and ftp, except when I try to save, Emacs informs me that the "Macro key terminated by command sounding the bell". If I try to resave, it tells me that no changes had occurred and there is no need to save, but upon observation, the document had not been saved, and emacs informs me that the document has been changed on the server, am I sure I want to edit it? I am about to rip my hair out over this!
