ZClass not displaying in Tree View?
by Chris Bruce 29 Jan '02

29 Jan '02

I am experiencing a weird problem. I have a zclass that extends ZObject and ZObject Manager. I have added it to a folder and it will not show up in the left hand folder tree view within the manage interface. I have had the zclass there for months and just noticed that it is not in the folder view. I have other zclasses that extend the same base objects and they work just fine. Any one know what the problem is? Thanks, Chris __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Great stuff seeking new owners in Yahoo! Auctions! http://auctions.yahoo.com

Folder with one million Documents?
by Thomas Guettler 29 Jan '02

29 Jan '02

Hi! I am developing a simple DMS. Up to now I use a python product with a BTreeFolder which contains all the documents. Every document gets an ID with DateTime().millis(). There will be up to 50 users working at the same time. And in the end I will have up to 3 million documents. Is there a better class than BTreeFolder for such mass storage? For the curious, here is one result of the benchmarks: I benchmark it with httperf: +5 requests per second +10MBit connection between client and server +every request creates a document Anzahl der Dokumente: 2159 httperf.exe: warning: open file limit > FD_SETSIZE; limiting max. # of open files to FD_SETSIZE httperf.exe --timeout=5 --client=0/1 --server=prophet --port=8080 --uri=/a/benchmarks/create_new_doc --rate=5 --send-buffer=4096 --recv-buffer=16384 --add-header='Authorization: Basic em9wZTp6b3Bl\n' --num-conns=1000 --num-calls=1 Maximum connect burst length: 1 Total: connections 1000 requests 1000 replies 571 test-duration 204.814 s Connection rate: 4.9 conn/s (204.8 ms/conn, <=26 concurrent connections) Connection time [ms]: min 110.0 avg 977.2 max 5257.0 median 289.5 stddev 1315.9 Connection time [ms]: connect 0.5 Connection length [replies/conn]: 1.000 Request rate: 4.9 req/s (204.8 ms/req) Request size [B]: 120.0 Reply rate [replies/s]: min 0.0 avg 2.9 max 5.2 stddev 2.2 (40 samples) Reply time [ms]: response 976.4 transfer 0.0 Reply size [B]: header 216.0 content 79.0 footer 0.0 (total 295.0) Reply status: 1xx=0 2xx=562 3xx=0 4xx=0 5xx=9 CPU time [s]: user 83.96 system 117.15 (user 41.0% system 57.2% total 98.2%) Net I/O: 1.4 KB/s (0.0*10^6 bps) Errors: total 429 client-timo 429 socket-timo 0 connrefused 0 connreset 0 Errors: fd-unavail 0 addrunavail 0 ftab-full 0 other 0 Anzahl der Dokumente: 3075 --end: Fri Jan 25 14:25:34 2002

Session product stability
by hpinson＠indepthl.com 29 Jan '02

29 Jan '02

Hi. Does anyone have an opinion about the stability of the Cookieless session Product? It seems quite promising at first glance. Is there any other session variable manager product that stands out for it's stability and ease of use? ANN: Zope for Media BoF @ IPC10
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 29 Jan '02

29 Jan '02

If you are planning on attending the Python 10 conference next week, and are interested in topics related to the use of Zope for media content (i.e. News, etc) or in the potential applications of Zope within media companies like newspapers, I will be hosting a Birds-of-a-Feather session on "Zope for Media - Content Management and Beyond" which will focus an informal discussion and session for sharing ideas on a variety of issues within this domain (which IMHO, is an excellent fit for Zope as a development platform). The BoF will be Wednesday during the lunch time for those who are interested. More info is available on the Python 10 website: http://www.python10.org/p10-BoFs.html Cheers, Sean ========================= Sean Upton Site Technology Supervisor Development & Integration SignOnSanDiego.com The San Diego Union-Tribune 619.718.5241 sean.upton(a)uniontrib.com =========================

ParsedXML expat pyd windows binary available?
by Jeff Kowalczyk 29 Jan '02

29 Jan '02

I would like to experiment with ParsedXML on a WindowsXP machine running Zope 2.5.0. I can't seem to get the provided expat compiled on windows, and I gather this is a common hurdle to overcome. Does anyone have a procedure to get the windows binary of expat from http://sourceforge.net/projects/expat/ linked as required by ParsedXML? This package would be easier to get started with if it included a download that was ready to roll under windows, since the included expat build setup is somewhat unix-centric, and doesn't look like it would have much chance to work with VC++, the usual compiler available (if any) to a windows Zope user. Thanks.

Has anyone developed an application using a native GUI Frontend to Zope? I had this idea some time ago and found an interessting example from Amos Latteier. He uses xml-rpc and WxPython. I like it a lot, played with it this weekend. Has someone seen other projects using Zope and a native GUI? thomas

How to prevent Anonymous users to view dir lists within LocalFS while still having them able to download files
by e-Musty 29 Jan '02

29 Jan '02

I have a LocalFS product containing cc 1000 files in numerous directories and maintain a database with info about those files, including their URL. I provide my own search and listing DTMLs for visitors. When they want to download a given file, they click on a link that increases a download counter then sends the file for the browser. That's fine and that's what I want. I however wouldn't like Anonymous users to be able to view the directory view provided by LocalFS (to say so I would like to keep my directory structure hidden) to avoid direct downloads that I cannot register. Do anybody know a way to hide that directory view from Anonymous users? I've tried to disable the "Access content information" permission, but it seems that it have no effect in either way. When I've revoked the View permission from Anonymous users, I couldn't have Zope push out the files without requiring authentication, however I've set the Proxy Role of the appropriate script Manager, Owner and Authenticated. Any tips on other workarounds? Or should I use *only* an FSCounter or some similar stuff? Your prompt help would be very important for me, dudes. Rock on, e-Musty

Configuring Zope
by Oleg Lebedev 29 Jan '02

29 Jan '02

Hi everybody, I spent a couple of hours trying to get Zope to work with mx.DateTime, but with no success. The error I am getting when loading PSYCOPG now is: AttributeError: 'DateTime' module has no attribute 'mxDateTimeAPI' I wonder if there is a way to configure Zope so that it uses python version that I have installed on my machine and not the one it comes with? The thing is that I can import psycopg module when running my default python, but when I try to run >>> import psycopg using python executable in ZOPE/bin folder, I get ImportError: No module named DateTime Basically I need to figure out how to get Zope to load mx.DateTime package correctly. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks, Oleg
