by Jochen Häberle 17 Jan '02

Hi, I needed to update my linux boxn running a older Zope installation with Zope 2.1.1. It uses some products that are no longer available. The distrubution now includes python 2.1.1 which does not seem to work for Zope 2.1.1 z2.py, line 216 import os, sys, getopt, string ImportError: No module named os Is there a way to get Zope 2.1x work with python 2.* or do I need to install a python 1..5.2 just for the old Zope? Thanks for any advice Jochen

Pratically number in REQUEST is a string and not an integer!! Do you have some solutions?? Thanks Massimiliano

RE: [Zope] Regarding Database Access

Go to zope.org and locate the ODBC DA. Then look up the documentation (with examples) in chapter 10 of The Zope Book, which is viewable there. It's rather simple, once you've located and installed the DA. ---------- Keith J. Regarding Database Access

Respected Sir/Madam, I am developing a project where my manager asked me to develop an application such that he can access the database where he can modify the contents of the database. I am using MSAccess database with ODBC.Could you please tell or give me a link where I get the required details. I want to see all the tables and the data in the tables so that i can change it from the browser. Please suggest me your opinion. It is a bit urgent. Dr. Dobbs - February issue
by sean.bowman＠acm.org 17 Jan '02

hello, If somebody hasn't mentioned this already, I'd like to point out that there are two articles in the February issue of "Dr. Dobbs Journal" having to do (explicitly or implicitly) with Zope Corp. Congratulations! This goes a long way towards making Zope more visable to the average programmer whose head is stuck in M$/Sun/&c muck. Keep up the good work! best Sean

Re: [Zope] Need Ideas on how to accomplish personalized web pages!
by Wade Pearce 17 Jan '02

How about using frames? Have a small frame that maintains an order status based per user. Basically when the page loads, determine who has logged in via the call: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('username', AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName())"> With the persons login details, determine if they have any orders in process via a Z SQL Method that returns a count(*) of some type. If the count = 0 then set the status to "You have no current orders." otherwise retrieve their order status via more Z SQL Methods from the database and place the details within the frame. The status frame doens't have to be big, just take a small part of the window so as you can put your information. It also means that it doesn't interfere with other operations, because once the frame is loaded, its loaded. The frame setup may be like: <framset rows="90%,10%"> <frame name="main_frame" src="main_page"> <frame name="status_frame" src="status_page"> </frameset> status_page may look like this: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('username', AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName())"> <dtml-with methods> <dtml-in check_current_orders> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('total', total)"> </dtml-in> <dtml-if expr="total==0"> You have no current orders. <dtml-else> <dtml-in retrieve_current_order> ... </dtml-in> </dtml-if> </dtml-with> Because the user has logged in, you're set. If you manage everything by user_id not username, then simply use a Z SQL Method to retrieve that. This is a simple but effective method that I've used quite a bit on website I've spent a lot of time building for an online gaming group. I've found it useful. It means you can integrate it into a current page without having to restructure logins, etc. Cheers, Wade Pearce Wedge Tail Eagles Australasian Net Gaming Association (http://wtecommand.com) "Powered by Zope" >>> "Yury German" <ygerman(a)nyc.rr.com> 01/17/02 03:28pm >>> Hello All! Let me tell you what I am trying to set up and about the way I am thinking of doing this. Maybe someone has a product or a script that does something similar or can tell me how to accomplish my idea. I am trying to run a page on my shopping web site that has the ability to give the customers status of their order. I do not know how to accomplish this yet all I know is that the idea I stole from dell. The way you can log in to their site and be able to see where in the process the system is. Basically a uniqe page customised by each user. I was thinking of two ways to accomplish this. 1. Find some way that a web page inside zope can be redirected to another web page based on the user ID. This would be the simplest way since I can then provide dynamic information pulling on different dtml methods and database queries (leaving the authentication to zope). 2. Create the whole thing via queries and serv it up via zope. This would be a royal pain since I would have to recreate the whole authentication part in the database and can not use zope authentication for this. So if you have any ideas I would love to hear them. _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

ExtImage madness - upload fails from script (python)
by Tim Hicks 17 Jan '02

17 Jan '02

I'm running zope 2.3.3 on redhat 6.x with ExtFile 1.1.3 (no patches) installed and working with PIL. Extfile appears correctly installed in the Control_Panel/Products list, and I can successfully add an instance from the ZMI - including creating the thumbnail. So now, I'm trying to upload from an image (actually, potentially several) from a form of my own. The form POSTs to a script (python) which does numerous other things, and then tries to do a manage_addExtImage(). Here is the relevant code... ---- request = context.REQUEST f_request = context.REQUEST.form photos = ['photoUpload1', 'photoUpload2', 'photoUpload3'] try: prop_id = str(f_request['PROPERTY_ID']) if hasattr(getattr(context, context.root()).photos, prop_id): #The folder already exists, so we don't need to do anything pass else: #We need to add a folder to hold all photos for this property getattr(context, context.root()).photos.manage_addFolder(prop_id) photo_folder = getattr(getattr(context, context.root()).photos, prop_id) #Need to iterate over 'photos' and to add them all for photo in photos: if len(request.form[photo].read()) == 0: #The form was submitted without a file for this field pass else: #They all need unique id's... I'm going with integers intid = 1 while 1: if hasattr(photo_folder, str(intid)): intid = intid + 1 else: photo_folder.manage_addProduct['ExtFile'].manage_addExtImage(file=request.fo rm[photo], create_prev=1, maxx=50, maxy=50, ratio=1) break -------- Obviously, this is an abridged version of a much longer script. Anyway, the upshot of submitting my form is that an ExtImage instance is added in the correct place but of zero size (in bytes) - i.e. none of the data actually gets added. However, to prove that I'm almost there, the instance does actually have an ID = filename_from_client_machine and title = path_from_client_machine. The infuriating thing is that I've had this working before, but broke it somewhere along the way and don't know when or how. Please... I'm tearing my hair out over this one. cheers tim
