WebDrive, ZPT and Zope
by Norman Khine 09 Sep '01

Hello, Has anyone had experience with using WebDrive, I just got a copy and it seems to be working fine until I tried to upload some ZPT files, the files do transfer, BUT they are not being recognised as ZPT and are just added as DTML Document. Is there a way to overide this? Re: Complete dtml-var Reference?
by Dan Shafer 09 Sep '01

Well, I found what _might_ be a complete list of dtml-var builtins, but the page refers to itself as rapidly becoming obsolete, so I'm not sure. This document: http://www.zope.org/Members/ZQR Appears to be a couple of years old and describes itself as "aging" but is it still valuable or valid? If this isn't the best source? If not, what is? -- Hire a world-class ghostwriter to create your entire information product line! Firstly, if that's the kind of assistance I get from asking a valid question (so close to a big deadline), then stick it ... :-) Secondly, don't you have a sense of humour? Only kidding :-) Or am I? :-) Thirdly, I know from experience that Chris has a sense of humour ( and a thick skin ) but I'd consider you "borderline" myself :-) :-) :-) :-) Tom P.s I really do have a deadline this week (Tuesday) for a "made with zope" application so my judgement may be slightly impaired by late nights, beer and the thought of being told to rewrite it in ASP.

variable SQL statements
by ed colmar 09 Sep '01

09 Sep '01

Hey everyone! I'm working on a strange database project, and I've run into a little stumbling block. Thought I'd bounce this off the group and see if there's any workarounds... my goal: build a SQL statement that will create a table with a name provided by an external method. -- my first attempt | this is the contents of a sql method -- CREATE TABLE <dtml-sqlvar tablename type=nb>_<dtml-sqlvar tabletype type=nb> ( testfield VARCHAR(75) ) ------------------------ But when it gets rendered, the variables get quoted. =( So, I found jPenny's Variable SQl statement how-to, and tried using it instead: -- my second attempt | this is the contents of a sql method -- <dtml-var "sqltablecall"> ------------------------ -- this is the contents of an external method -- mastertablename = "somename_standardtable" sqltablecall = "CREATE TABLE " + mastertablename + " ( testfield VARCHAR(75) )" self.SQL_create_master_table(sqltablecall=sqltablecall) ------------------------ This returns a "bad request" error... Apparently the variable cannot be passed directly like this..?? My questions: Is there a way to disable quoting in SQLvars? OR, how do I go about adding the sqltablecall variable into the request (which I'm assuming is where it's looking). Thanks for any ideas! -ed-

Now it's a "Folder" class question :-)
by aaa＠simplesky.com 09 Sep '01

Hi there, I'm stil trying to build my personal Folder product, let's call it "minimal" (ok, ok, I'm working on tutorials :-) I was trying to subclass ObjectManager, but then I've been told to subclass Folder insted since it subclasses ObjectManager itself (and it does, i checked). I'm still trying to give my product a "Folder" feel, that is, I want to be able to click on in and "enter" it, and see what's inside it (that is the standard Content view of a folder). Now what happens is this: let my "minimal" object id be "abc", and let it be contained by the "Test" folder. when I click on it the url becomes http://.../Test/abc so it looks like I'm inside it, but I still see the "Test" folder content, that is I still see the "abc" object. In other words it looks like if the "abc" object contains itself. If I click on it again the url becomes http://.../Test/abc/abc and then abc/abc/abc and so on. Why can't I "see" inside it and can't put other objects in it? Should I include something special? Should I put something particular in the manage_options? I'm sorry but I couldn't find anything in the docs :-( and that's question one. then, why (see code below) do I have to subclass the Implicit class too?? if I don't do it I get: Exception type: TypeError Exception value: base is not a class object Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/local/Zope-2.4.1-linux2-x86/lib/python/App/RefreshFuncs.py, line 255, in performSafeRefresh File /usr/local/Zope-2.4.1-linux2-x86/lib/python/App/RefreshFuncs.py, line 242, in performRefresh File /usr/local/Zope-2.4.1-linux2-x86/lib/python/OFS/Application.py, line 756, in reimport_product File /usr/local/Zope-2.4.1-linux2-x86/lib/python/OFS/Application.py, line 558, in import_product File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/Products/minimal/__init__.py, line 1, in ? File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/Products/minimal/minimal.py, line 17, in ? TypeError: base is not a class object But if I subclass Folder that subclasses ObjectManager that subclasses Aquisition.Implicit, why should I subclass Implicit again??? These Python-Zope products are pretty complicated, aren't they? ok, this is my code: # minimal.py from OFS import Folder from Acquisition import Implicit from Globals import DTMLFile class minimal(Implicit, Folder): "minimal object" meta_type='minimal' meta_types=() index_html=DTMLFile('www/index_html', globals()) manage_options=( {'label': 'View', 'action': 'index_html'}, ) def __init__(self, id): "initialize a new instance of minimal" self.id=id def manage_addMinimal(self, id, RESPONSE=None): "Add a minimal to a folder" self._setObject(id, minimal(id)) RESPONSE.redirect('index_html') manage_addMinimalForm=DTMLFile('www/manage_addMinimalForm', globals()) other file: # __init__.py import minimal def initialize(context): """Initialize the minimal product this makes the object appear in the product list""" context.registerClass( minimal.minimal, constructors = ( minimal.manage_addMinimalForm , minimal.manage_addMinimal) ) I really thank you all for the help. The zope community is just GREAT. I hope one day I'll be able to give back to newbies what I'm learning now :-) |G|

ObjectManager question.
by giovanni＠simplesky.com 09 Sep '01

Hi people, I just started playing with python products, and I have a question that I can't seem to solve: I have a class derived from ObjectManager, how do I create a "Contents" tab, so that it looks like a folder and lets the user put other objects in it? What do I have to put in the manage_options? I guess there is something already defined for this, but I can't find it in the docs. Thanks!!!! |G|

Management of Base classes

Hi all, Base classes are specified when creating new ZClass. How can I discover what Base classes was a ZClass created with? How can I change Base ZClasses (without deleting and recreating a ZClass)? -- Milos Prudek

is there a dtml-with convenience tag ?? or equivalent syntax
by Trevor Toenjes 09 Sep '01

Is there a one liner that looks something like this? <dtml-call "foo.bar(something)"> **see below ed.-please dont take offense to my simple thinking I am constantly writing "<dtml-with foo><dtml-var bar></dtml-with>" just to get one(1) method from an object. As I am getting into content categories using zClasses, I am now writing many... **<dtml-with foo> --usually the category/folder with zClasses <dtml-with bar> --the specific zClass <dtml-var something> --the method to execute from the specific zclass </dtml-with> </dtml-with> I am searching for a simpler way to do this... Thanks for feedback, (or reality) Trevor
