Apache + ZServer: Excluding some URLS from a ProxyPass
by Peter Hernberg 21 Jun '01

21 Jun '01

I know this more of an Apache question than a Zope question, but I figured Zope folk were most likely know the answer Here's the situation: I'm moving our website to Zope, but there are some old CGI scripts we still need. Reading the howtos, it seem like the best way to this is with ProxyPass. What I'd like to is something like ProxyPass / http://www.oursite.com:9673/ ProxyPassReverse / http://www.oursite.com:9673/ But somehow I'd like http://www.oursite.com/survey.cgi to bypass this rule untouched. The best way I could think of to do this would be to something like DirectoryIndex index_html ProxyPass /index_html http://www.oursite.com:9673/ ProxyPassReverse /index_html http://www.oursite.com:9673/ And then forward the individual directories as well: ProxyPass /stuff http://www.oursite.com:9673/stuff ProxyPassReverse /stuff http://www.oursite.com:9673/stuff ProxyPass /morestuff http://www.oursite.com:9673/morestuff ProxyPassReverse /morestuff http://www.oursite.com:9673/morestuff Sadly, this doesn't work (requests for http://www.oursite.com/ return apache's listing of the / directory, although requests for http://www.oursite.com/index_html work fine (see http://bugs.apache.org/index.cgi/full/3596 for the only discussion I could find on the subject)). Is there some way to get Apache to transparently forward all requests except requests for those certain CGI scripts requests to the Zope website? Maybe some mod_rewrite rule? ===== Peter Hernberg SUNY Potsdam's most illegible bachelor "You must pass this message on in the next 72 hours or you will have bad luck. I have some sort of corruption in the ODB that becomes apparent when I try upgrading (see trace below). On top of this I don't want to drag around the history of everything else in the ZODB. How hard would a selective pack operation be? ie pack everything but one folder > An alternative may be an external Python script > that uses XML-RPC to fetch the versions of an object > in the source Zope and create/update them in the destination > Zope. I'm having enough trouble keeping up with the changes the way it is. I suspect that what is too slow is changes in the direction *you* want. As for me, I am very happy with the speed at which DC implements change. Especially the speed at which they come out with security fixes.

RE: [Zope] Namespace error in MIME/Sendmail
by Dunigan, Craig 21 Jun '01

I expected that, Michel. ;) Although I'd already tried it without success, your reply at least nudged me to poke around a bit more, and I discovered that it is the .read() that causes the difficulty. This: <dtml-boundary type=application/octet-stream disposition=attachment encode=base64><dtml-var expr="restrictedTraverse(SendDoc).read()"></dtml-mime> </dtml-sendmail> fails with an attribute error on the read(). I got the read() syntax from the Zope book http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB/AdvDTML.dtml and an archived list message http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2000-August/116944.html. It appears to be incorrect for this case, though I'll be damned if I know why. For the record, REQUEST.resolve_url still failed with a namespace error when I removed the read(). You've convinced me, I'll use restrictedTraverse from now on! :-) > -----Original Message----- > From: Michel Pelletier [mailto:michel@digicool.com] > Sent: Wednesday, June 20, 2001 5:53 PM > To: Dunigan, Craig > Cc: 'Eric Balasbas'; 'zope(a)zope.org' > Subject: RE: [Zope] Namespace error in MIME/Sendmail > > > > Don't use REQUEST.resolve_url. CMF Dogbowl: Presentation Notes, Slides, etc.
by Jon Edwards 20 Jun '01

Tres has set up a page on the CMF Dogbowl to collect together Presentation Notes, Slides, etc on Content Management, Zope and/or the CMF. While he's distracted by the CMF 1.1 release and his vacation plans, I've sneakily added links to three that I know of. Anyone know of any others that are available on the net? Cheers, Jon

2GB Limit & Best Zope Platform
by Oliver Erlewein 20 Jun '01

20 Jun '01

Hi I'm piloting Zope for our company on a small Intel WS running under Widows NT (4.0 & Zope 2.3.2). Now I have to prepare the production server (medium sized, ~500Users, ~25 concurrent users). My question is, which server/OS is the best to use. Our provider is inclined that we use an Sun / Solaris server. Is there a reason not to use Sun/Solaris? What about the 2Gb filesize limitation on some OS? Does that apply to NT / Solaris / Linux /FreeBSD (or is that problem solved with Zope 2.4.x ? ;-) ). Re: [Zope] using a DTMLFile in a python product method
by Matthew Wilbert 20 Jun '01

20 Jun '01

Casey, . Thanks for the quick response. I tried calling it using apply, but I couldn't get the call right. It looked like other code called something like apply(DTMLFile(file,globals()),(),kw) but I don't know what arguments it needs--if it works without arguments, I don't think I tried that. Anyway, if that's the correct approach, I'll play around with it some more until I get it to work. Thanks again, Matt Wilbert mwilbert(a)alum.mit.edu -----Original Message----- From: Casey Duncan cduncan(a)kaivo.com Sent: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 10:20:32 -0600 To: mwilbert(a)alum.mit.edu CC: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] using a DTMLFile in a python product method Matthew Wilbert wrote: > > I have a method in a python product where I return different > forms based upon a REQUEST parameter. If I construct the returned html as a python string and return it, it works fine. But it seems more sensible to save the html as a template and then return that. So I created a template file, and used it to create a DTMLFile instance. The problem is that if I return this instance, it is returned html-quoted, which isn't what I want. Looking at the code, I can see this is the expected behavior if you convert it to string, but that isn't being done, explicitly.at least. > > Anyone know how to get it to show up unquoted? > > Matt Wilbert > mwilbert(a)alum.mit.edu It would seem you are returning the DTMLFile object itself. I would suggest returning the rendered result of the object instead by calling it and returning the resulting data. -- | Casey Duncan | Kaivo, Inc. | cduncan(a)kaivo.com `------------------> ___________________________________________________________________________ Visit http://www.visto.com/info, your free web-based communications center.
