Summary variables is removed in version 2.9?

Dear Zopist I have upgraded my Zope 2.8.x to Zope 2.9.0. I have used the <dtml-in> sequence which uses the summary variables (e.g. total-count). It works well in 2.8. However, when I ported the same <dmtl-in> sequence, the summary variables are not shown. There is no error message too. I have checked the documentation (in Zope Help) and others, but there is no hint of the above. Have anyone have similar experiences? Thank you for your time. Zope + Apache + mod_proxy + SiteRoot = some links not proxied?

Hello readers, I've spent quite some time looking around for the "right" procedure to integrate Zope and Apache. I use mod_proxy as described in a number of places, especially: http://www.zope.org/Members/anser/apache_zserver I've followed the instructions step by step and it "mostly" works, meaning that *some* links do not work: - the "... folder at /..." link at the top of the main frame in ZMI - the top-right menu (quick start, prefs, logout) in ZMI - the ZMI link in the home (quick start) page - ... These links do not get rewritten to get "/zope" prepended to the local path part, so they give an error 404. All other links work, though, so I think that my setup is "almost" right. Am I missing something? I have created the SiteRoot object in the root (/) folder. Is this correct? Base is "http://my-server.my-domain.com/zope" Path is "/" To somewhat work around this problem, I have had to add a bunch of extra ProxyPass statements in Apache's configuration, like: ProxyPass /manage_page_style.css http://my-server.my-domain.com:8080/manage_page_style.css ProxyPass /manage_workspace http://my-server.my-domain.com:8080/manage_workspace ProxyPass /manage_zmi_logout http://my-server.my-domain.com:8080/manage_zmi_logout ProxyPass /manage_zmi_prefs http://my-server.my-domain.com:8080/manage_zmi_prefs ProxyPass /zope_quick_start http://my-server.my-domain.com:8080/zope_quick_start ProxyPass /manage http://my-server.my-domain.com:8080/manage ProxyPass /HelpSys http://my-server.my-domain.com:8080/HelpSys ProxyPass /Examples http://my-server.my-domain.com:8080/Examples ProxyPass /manage_importObject http://my-server.my-domain.com:8080/manage_importObject This is probably not the right approach, but I can't find what is wrong in my setup. Secure Mailhost timing out

The only change in the configuration was that I installed ZMySQL DA any pointers? christian

Problems Executing pdftk from within zope.

Hello Zopistas... I trying to modify pdf files from within zope. I use the following command: '/usr/bin/pdftk /t/in.pdf attach_files /t/a1.pdf /t/a2.pdf output /t/out.pdf' When I execute it as root it works... When executed from within zope, (this i've done via external command that executes os.system(...)) A task is started to executed it, but the task hangs. Even with set the setuid bit on /usr/bin/pdftk, making the zope spawned task run as root the command just hangs.... (I've confirmed that the task is actually running as root!) I'm sure I've forgoten something silly, but after bashing it around for several hours I just can't figure out why it hangs Any suggestions at what the problem could be are welcome 8-) Jerry P.S. Is ExtFile right for me?

My Zope site generates many reports in PDF format, and stores them in a folder that's only accessible to customers via a password-protected form. I currently store each report's password as a property of its File object. My problem is that I'm creating several hundred megabyte-sized file objects in my ZODB each day, and even though I expire them after five days the performance hit when storing and fetching the files is painful. I think, then, that I should be looking at an external filesystem store. LocalFS looks very nice, but it doesn't seem to support properties (which I currently need). ExtFile looks very nice and does support properties, and that's the way I'm heading. Does that seem reasonable given my usage? Also, I'm currently inserting the file uploads into a folder named "files" (ain't I creative?) with this method call: context.files.manage_addFile(id=filename, file=filecontents, content_type=filetype) I tried what I thought would be the ExtFile equivalent: context.files.manage_addProduct['ExtFile'].manage_addExtFile(id=filename, file=filecontents, content_type=filetype) but that only dumps the contents of the file to the client and doesn't actually store that data. [Ann] Incremental filtering: a new way for catalog query optimization

Catalog searches are often slow. IncrementalSearch[2] can lead to drastic gains in query time. However, there is a large class of queries that cannot be significantly sped up: queries that contain huge Or subqueries involving bushy indexes, usually resulting from a time based subquery checking effectiveness and expiration (or other similar use cases) The newest versions of the companions "AdvancedQuery", "ManagableIndex" and "IncrementalSearch[2]" support incremental filtering to execute most such queries efficiently. With incremental filtering, the index is not use in the usual way. Instead, the remaining query parts determine a set of document candidates with is then filtered by the filtering subqueries, dropping documents not matched by these subqueries. Lets look at an example: Suppose you search for news containing 'AdvancedQuery' which are effective and not expired. The standard query would look like Eq('portal_type','News') & Eq('SearchableText', 'AdvancedQuery') & Le('effective', now) & Ge('expires', now) Internally, the "Le('effective', now)" subquery is expanded into "Or(*[Eq('effective', t) for t in 'effective' and t<=now]) which usually is huge. The "Ge" subquery is similarly expanded. The filtering query has the form Eq('portal_type','News') & Eq('SearchableText', 'AdvancedQuery') & Ge('expires', now, filter=True) & Le('effective', now, filter=True) When this query is executed, "Eq('portal_type','News') & Eq('SearchableText', 'AdvancedQuery')" determines a set of candidate objects. From this (probably small) set, objects not satisfying "expires >= now" and (then) "effective <= now" are filtered out. This way, we avoid the construction of huge Or subqueries. Of course, filtering is only efficient in some circumstances: usually, when the other query parts already garantee a small set of candidates and the filtering can avoid the construction of large intermediaries. Otherwise, filtering may not improve the query speed but increase it (maybe even drastically). Incremental filtering is a powerful optimazation tool, which need careful usage... You need the complete bundle ("AdvancedQuery", "IncrementalSearch[2]" and "ManagableIndex") when you want to use incremental filtering.
