probably stupid: changing zstylesheet properties through dtml
by Danny William Adair 10 Mar '01

10 Mar '01

How can I programmatically change A ZStyleSheet attribute (ZSSAttr) through dtml??? <dtml-with css_content> <dtml-with Body> <dtml-call "background.manage_changeProperties({'value' : new_bg})"> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> won't do, it gets me an authentication request (whatever my role), telling me I am not allowed to access "changeProperties". It's not a ZClass, so there is no propertysheet I would have to define, is that right? Through the management screen, everything works fine, but I want to change only a few attributes from a _dtml method_, and I simply don't know how to do it. I've given the method every available proxy role, and still. I really believe that my problem is not ZStyleSheet-specific, but could anyone out there who has successfully done _this_ tell me how to do it? Thx in advance, Danny

Cyrillic Characters in URL
by Tim Cook 10 Mar '01

10 Mar '01

Okay, I'm baffled. I have a physician that wants to use FreePM (http://www.freepm.org:8080) with Cyrillic characters. I use names of people, drugs and other descriptors as object ID's "everywhere"! I thought that setting the correct character set would allow these characters to be used in URL's. He tells me that he can't create a folder in the management interface with a cyrillic character as the ID. Is this part of the Splitter.c problem? A lack of understanding on my part? His setup? Thanks, -- Tim Cook, President - FreePM,Inc. http://www.FreePM.com Office: (901) 884-4126 ONLINE DEMO: http://www.freepm.org:8080/FreePM

Zope Acquisition Idiom
by Edmund Goppelt 10 Mar '01

10 Mar '01

If I want to call another DTML method from within a DTML method, I use the following Zope idiom: My_dtml_method <dtml var fjdkjfkd> higherup.folder.other_dtml_method(_.None, _) ..... The docs says arg #1 is the client object I want the function to act on and arg #2 a mapping like the REQUEST object. So if I want the function to act on my DTML object why the _.None idiom? Why not refer explicitly to my DTML object by using 'this' or PARENTS[0]? -- Ed Goppelt

zope for intranet?
by Erik Hjelmås 10 Mar '01

10 Mar '01

Hi, forgive me if this is inappropriate (since I've just joined the list and briefly browsed the archive): Im in a working group with the purpose of suggesting a solution for intranet and internet for a college with 150 employees and 1500 students we are primarely looking for the following functionality: intranet: - calender (outlook type thing) - booking (meeting room, classroms, etc) - news publishing - sharing documents - email program - each employee should easily be able to manage his/her homepage and course pages - forms internet: - website search - forms (online application forms) + some of the same features as the intranet our current website is at www.hig.no and not very functional. The rest of my group is focused on selecting a commercial solution, which is very expensive, so Im trying to figure out if Zope, ezPublish or some other open source system is worth looking in to. Unfortunately, I dont have the time to download and try things out myself. Any thoughts, ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated! /Erik ______________________________________________ veveve dått håige dått enno slæsj tilde erikhå www.hig.no/~erikh

hi. request for enlightenment ;) (or some zen) is there any other way of creating the mount point for an ExternalMount, apart from the python incantation mentioned in Randy's ZEO-Session How-To? also, say i have a few ZEO Clients, all in different machines. i assume i just mount the External Mount on one ZC, and have the External Method available in all ZCs. pls correct me if i'm wrong if i the use Berkeley storage for the External Mount, i will not get Conflict Error, competing writes anyloonger .. right? dazed and confused thanks -- http://www.kedai.com.my/kk http://www.kedai.com.my/eZine Get the tables!

Zope lockup - thread exited without releasing global lock?
by Brad Clements 10 Mar '01

10 Mar '01

More info on my periodic Zope 2.2.2 lockup (RH7 running Zope supplied Python with gvib) using gdb, all of the zope threads are waiting to acquire the global lock, except for two threads. The first thread is waiting for a pid to finish (in waitpid) (must be the process manager) The other thread always seems to be something like this: (gdb) where #0 0x4008de75 in __sigsuspend (set=0x8695104) at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sigsuspend.c:45 #1 0x400347e9 in __pthread_wait_for_restart_signal (self=0x4003e360) at pthread.c:901 #2 0x40036ad9 in __pthread_alt_lock (lock=0x40183720, self=0x0) at restart.h:34 #3 0x40032b26 in __pthread_mutex_lock (mutex=0x40183710) at mutex.c:120 #4 0x400dee48 in __libc_free (mem=0x86e0488) at malloc.c:3052 #5 0x4003234b in pthread_exited (pid=20510) at manager.c:707 #6 0x40032709 in pthread_reap_children () at manager.c:787 #7 0x40031a28 in __pthread_manager (arg=0x13) at manager.c:158 Note that in this case, the current pid is 20509. I see pthread_exited(pid=20510) Does this mean that 20510 quit, and 20590 was waiting on it? In any case, I suspect that the thread is somehow exit'ing without releasing the global lock, but I can't really be entirely sure. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can track this down? convert dtml doc to dtml method
by Donald Braman 10 Mar '01

10 Mar '01

Because I'm newish to Zope, I still find myself converting dtml docs and methods back and forth as I realize what I'm doing with each object. Is there a simple way to do this (other than creating a new object, then copying the contents of the old one, then deleting the old, then renaming the new one?) -Don

In URL:http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap3.html you will find some tricks to work around unwanted redirections. Search for "setStatus". Dieter
