Read the paper on Zope Security. Otherwise, you will not be lucky. You would not call the function directly from Zope, but as a method of an instance "gb" of "Guestbook". Once you have such an instance, you would use <dtml-with gb> <dtml-var feedback> </dtml-with> Note that function definitions in Python have parameter declaration. It's probably advicable to look into a Python book or its online documentation, too. ... before you start your project. Probably, you should also read the Zope book... Dieter

CURL (http://curl.haxx.se/) is helpful if you need to upload files through a form. I use bash scripts with curl to import files. [BUG] funny Zope conflict resolution -- avoid using "URL" as name!
by Dieter Maurer 09 Mar '01

09 Mar '01

Assume, you have a form control with name 'URL'. What value for the variable 'URL' would you expect in the form action? The request URL or the value of the form value for 'URL'. You will be surprised how Zope resolves this confict: it appends the path component of the request URL onto the form control value! This is for the current ZopeCVS. In Zope 2.1.6, not only URL, but all URLi and BASEi are wrong. The problem description is on its way to the Collector. Apparently, it is a very good advice to avoid 'URL' as a name in any Zope context. Dieter

The implementation (!) of "manage_pasteObjects" or "export/import" should show you how to proceed (I suppose you want do it programmatically). Dieter

SECURITY ALERT and Zope hotfix release [2001-03-08]
by Brian Lloyd 09 Mar '01

09 Mar '01

Hello all - An issue has come to our attention (thanks to Randy Kern) that necessitates a Zope hotfix. Hotfix products can be installed to incorporate modifications to Zope at runtime without requiring an immediate installation upgrade. Hotfix products are installed just as you would install any other Zope product. This hotfix (Hotfix_2001-03-08)addresses an important security issue that affects Zope version 2.3.0 and the current 2.3.1 beta 1 release. The issue involves an error in the 'aq_inContextOf' method of objects that support acquisition. A recent change to the access validation machinery made this bug begin to affect security restrictions. The bug, with the change to validation, made it possible to access Zope objects via acquisition that a user would not otherwise have access to. This issue could allow users with enough internal knowledge of Zope to perform actions higher in the object hierarchy than they should be able to. We *highly* recommend that any Zope site running Zope 2.3.0 final or any alpha or beta version of 2.3.0 or 2.3.1 beta 1 have this hotfix product installed to mitigate the issue. Zope 2.3.1 beta 2 will contain a fix for the issue, at which time the hotfix can be removed. Zope versions prior to 2.3.0 are not affected by this issue. - http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/Hotfix_2001-03-08/README.txt - http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/Hotfix_2001-03-08/Hotfix_2001-03-08.tgz Brian Lloyd brian(a)digicool.com Software Engineer 540.371.6909 Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com

cast insensitive sorts using <dtml-in>?
by Geoffrey L. Wright 09 Mar '01

This question is, how do I do this? I seems link an obvious thing to be able to do, but the only thing I've been able to come up with is: http://www.zope.org/Members/andym/IgnoreCase Is this really the only way to go about this? And if so, does anybody know if this patch works against 2.3? Thanks, //glw
