by Steffen Bergmann 18 Jan '01

Hi ! I installed the Login Manager to my Zope, but I don´t know how to use it. I want to authenticate my users with an SQL database. Is there anywhere good documentation about Login Manager. And how does the Login Manager solve the N*M problem with managing the users. Regards Steffen

"Missing" attribute with ZSQL methods?
by Stephane Bortzmeyer 18 Jan '01

18 Jan '01

If I write DTML that way: <td><dtml-var telephone missing="(No phone)"></td> and if "telephone" comes from a ZSQL method, "missing" is ignored even if the field was NULL (in SQL sense). Is it normal? Zope version: Zope 2.2.2 (source release, python 1.5.2, linux2) Python version: 2.0c1 (#2, Nov 24 2000, 11:08:10) [C] System Platform: osf1V4 PostgreSQL 7.0.3 (with Z PyGreSQL, ZPyGreSQLDA-0-0-3)

Zope Versus Enhydra Comparison article
by Paul Browning 18 Jan '01

Zope and Enhydra Comparison by Paul Gresham, CEO/CTO, MediaVisual This is now available via the on-line Lutris Enhydra Journal (for access register via http://www.lutris.com/products/newsletter_registration.html ). Excerpt (which struck a particular chord with me): "The learning curve of Enhydra is initially steeper but shallows out quite quickly. The Zope learning curve is very shallow and then increases exponentially to x to power infinity at which point your head valorizes. Of course to give Zope its karma back, Zope is more easily accessible to non-programmers whereas Enhydra is much less-so. The main reason behind using Enhydra on our most critical product to date, was that we knew we could do it with servlets, and that worst case, and given the structure of enhydra, we knew we could code our way out of any problems. Using Zope we knew that we would reach situations which may be unresolvable in the short term, and could not make significant business decisions with so many unknown factors and lack of any way to circumvent problems. The upshot is that our Zope projects were rather painful and Enhydra ones wore out our keyboards with so much code." The second sentence is perhaps a candidate for http://dna.yi.org/Zope/Quotes. Maybe a North American reader could confirm that "valorizes" means what I think it means ;-) Paul -- The Library, Tyndall Avenue, Univ. of Bristol, Bristol, BS8 1TJ, UK E-mail: paul.browning(a)bristol.ac.uk URL: http://www.bris.ac.uk/

exporting zope
by Tom Deprez 18 Jan '01

Hi, I'm looking for the products who can make plain html-files from zope folders. Unfortunately, I can't find them anymore on the zope.org site. Probably I missed them, but are there people who know the names of these products/tools, for easier finding. Are there people who have experience with some of them. (good, bad). Yes, I know, this isn't the normal way to do it, but I'm stuck here. People force me to use a certain tool to create a html-page. But, the data can change a lot and I don't want to rewrite these pages over and over. So, I want to use zope objects and add object now and then. Then I produce some html-pages from my zope db... This way everybody is happy and hopefully one day I can convince them that they better use Zope than the other tool. Thanks in advance, Tom.

Not really zope specific, but I hope nobody minds me asking. How do you implement flat-looking input boxes? Does somebody knows this? Thanks in advance, Tom.

I just set efs to explicitly use passive mode: (setq efs-use-passive-mode t) I've tried about 8 logins so far with no crash, which is better than I usually get. Of course, every once in a while I'll get on a run where I succeed in 20 or more logins, and then I finally make an attempt that kills Zope again. If this works I'm gonna send ya flowers, 'cause this single problem has kept me from falling in love with Zope. It would seem, though, like having Zope be so delicate in the face of active FTP connections would constitute a fairly nasty bug. Unless, of course, the issue that I'm running to is completely idiosyncratic to me. > kapil //glw

RE: [Zope] Python 2.0 ??????
by Magnus Heino (Rivermen) 18 Jan '01

There are several solutions to this one. 1. Your ISP probably didn't remove the python1.5 build. 'python' is usually just a link to python1.5. If you install python 2.0 on top of it, the link will point to python2.0. So change the reference to python in the start script to be python1.5 instead, and it will work. If you removed your old 2.2.2 site, build the 2.2.5 one with 'python1.5 w_pcgi.py' 2. If python1.5 actually is removed, compile a version of 1.5 on your own with './configure --prefix=/path/to/your/home && make && make install'. Put that in your path, and use that version of python to build with. 3. Although not official, the CVS checkout of Zope (2.3.1beta+), does seem to work just fine with python2.0. But maybe that will break something else in the products that you are using. /Magnus (Is there no way to tell Outlook2000 to NOT send a message in html format EVER? :-P) My web site had been working until this morning for months without a problem. When investigating the cause of the crush I found out that my ISP just upgraded to python 2.0 without my knowledge. My site is as far as I know the only zope site there. It does not start or build. I tried to upgrade to version 2.2.5 (I was running 2.2.2) without a success. This is what i got when trying to upgrade to version 2.2.5 :
