I downloaded and installed: Replace tab patch (http://www.zope.org/Members/cguardia/replace) This crashed my Zope when I restarted it on NT Zope 2.2.2 Here is the Traceback for start.bat Traceback (innermost last): File "C:\Program Files\Zopesite\z2.py", line 554, in ? exec "import "+MODULE in {} File "<string>", line 1, in ? File "C:\PROGRA~1\Zopesite\lib\python\Zope\__init__.py", line 95, in ? import Globals, OFS.Application, sys File "C:\PROGRA~1\Zopesite\lib\python\OFS\Application.py", line 91, in ? import Globals,Folder,os,sys,App.Product, App.ProductRegistry, misc_ File "C:\PROGRA~1\Zopesite\lib\python\OFS\Folder.py", line 100, in ? from ReplaceSupport import ReplaceSupport File "C:\PROGRA~1\Zopesite\lib\python\OFS\ReplaceSupport.py", line 93, in ? from DocumentTemplate.DT_Util import InstanceDict, TemplateDict, cDocument ImportError: cannot import name cDocument I modified Folder.py so that there now is nothing about Replace or ReplaceSupport. And that made it working again. You scared me.

Transparent Folders can unable SQL Methods...
by Ghuo 17 Nov '00

Hi all, I am using both transparent folders (created by Shane) and sql methods. SQL Methods are using "SQLConnectionIDs" method which return the list of all the connections founded in the content of the current folder. I put all my connections in a transparent folder and the "SQLConnectionIDs" method returned always an empty list. I was not able any more to create new sql methods... Here is a patch of this method located in the python file "lib/python/Products/ZSQLMethods/SQL.py" which makes all work well... security problems
by Bowyer, Alex 17 Nov '00

I am having some problems with getting the right security settings for my ZClass. I have one method index_html which should be viewable by anonymous. All other methods should only be viewable when a username/password is entered for someone with the role I have called UAAdmin One thing that is causing complications is that the index_html makes use of a few dtml-vars, an external Python method, and one view method also called index_html from another class. It may be I need to change these items' permissions as well. I can only seem to get full access to all pages (if I grant a proxy on index_html) or password access required on all items (by specifying permissions for the class instance) neither of which are the correct solution. Could someone tell me the right combination of permissions, define permissions and roles I need to get this working.. it's all getting a bit confusing. The new Python Method renaming Poll
by Michel Pelletier 17 Nov '00

17 Nov '00

http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/Scratch/Poll Hope Netscape doesn't mess up my formatting on the rest of this. The above link goes to the HTML version if it does! -Michel The New and Improved Python Method Poll We recently held a poll on Zope.org about renaming Python Methods. The poll turned out to be a bit of a disaster for several reasons, but at least we learned our lesson and this time, hopefully, we're gonna do it the right way. *Why* do we want to rename Python Methods? We want to rename Python Methods because they are not methods in Python. There are already things in the Python language called "Methods" and what we currently call "Python Methods" do not look or act much like real methods written in Python. To illustrate the point, Jim recently told me that he went up to PythonLabs to visit, and when he showed them Python Methods their reaction was "These aren't Python Methods.", and they should know! So we have two choices: 1) Change the behavior of Python Methods so that they look and act like methods in Python, instead of what they are now, or 2) Keep the existing behavior and change the name. We discarded the first choice because we like the existing behavior, we find it useful for through the web development, and we have invested a lot of thought and engineering into it. Changing the behavior would effect lots of things, so we decided to go with the second choice. The second choice is good because it requires little labor, but it is not an *easy* choice to make, especially for us since we're all pretty biases and geek-headed. This is where you come in. We want you to vote from a selection of internal and community solicited new names for Python Methods. What was wrong with the last Poll? In the last poll, "Method" won "hands down":http://www.zope.org/Members/hathawsh/poll/viewStats. But the poll was obviously a bit biased, no justification was given as to *why* we wanted to rename Python Methods and "Method" was mentioned all over the poll, it was even a choice! To quote Jim, the poll was a lot like asking the question "Who is buried in Grant's tomb?". Duh. Also, there were lots of candidate names, but with no context, who could really choose one? There were no justification for names, and many of them that were fairly reasonable scored almost dead last. So, we're gonna do things a little differently in this poll. How does the new poll work? *Once again* we will be soliciting names from inside DC and from the community. In addition to submitting a name, we encourage you to also submit a one-liner description or justification for you name, it can be in any form, Haiku poetry, a Dutch sea-shanty, a Monty Python quote, anything *relevant* to encourage people to vote for your entry. We will also have a front-page blurb on the poll that you must read in order to vote. It will describe the reasons and justification's behind the new poll, and why we want to rename Python Methods. "Method" will not be an option, so please don't submit it. When is the new poll? The new poll will start on Monday, November 27th, 2000 and go until the following Friday. Name submission are due by the Friday before the poll, November 24th, 2000. How do I submit a candidate? Send an email with the subject line "Python Method name candidate" to "michel(a)digicool.com":mailto:michel@digicool.com. Your email must contain at least the name you propose, but it may also contain a *short* paragraph justifying why you think your name should be chosen. I will compile the list of candidates the Friday before the Poll begins. Your welcome and encouraged to discuss possibilities on the mailing lists, but please, since I don't have all the time in the world to troll the list, if you don't send me an email, I will not add your candidate to the list! Thanks, and Good Luck to all!

GNOME Web Team - Call for Volunteers
by rainlood 17 Nov '00

Hello. http://news.gnome.org/gnome-news/974368712/ GNOME Web Team - Call for Volunteers Posted by Christian Schaller on Thursday November 16, @04:58AM from the spiderman-wanted dept. Joakim Ziegler has posted a statement to the GNOME announce list calling for volunteers to help out with the GNOME website. Click on the Read More link to see the full statement. GNOME Web Team - Call for Volunteers. Background: The current GNOME project web offering, while having a lot of good content, is highly disorganized, with unclear maintainerships and diverging design, navigation, content generation, and so on. I did a redesign of www.gnome.org this spring, which was fairly successful, but due to time constraints and other factors, there is still a lot of old cruft in the site hierarchy, and some parts of the site are sadly underdeveloped. A recent discussion on gnome-hackers concluded that there should be an organized effort to bring the total GNOME web offering together, and rework it from the bottom up, so we can present a polished, functional and coherent image to the world. Additionally, Shawn Amundson indicated that he wanted to pass responsibility for www.gtk.org to the GNOME web team, as a part of an effort to reduce duplication of content between developer.gnome.org and www.gtk.org, and to further integration between the sites. What's happening now: I offered to volunteer as the organizer of the new web team, since I have quite a lot of experience both with GNOME sites and with web site building in general. We want to gather a team of dedicated people to work on the GNOME web sites. There are a number of issues to be worked out before actual site building/rework starts, including such diverse topics as: What site building technologies to use (WML, PHP, Zope, Perl, Python...) Design goals for the website. Site structure and content. In other words, most topics are open for discussion. We're aiming to resolve most of the high-level issues rather quickly, to be able to move on to actually reworking the sites. Who should join: There are two groups of people that should join. One is the interested web designers/scripters/etc., who want to take an active part in planning, designing and building one of the most important sets of web sites in the free software community. The other group is the people who take an interest in the more high-level issues of presenting GNOME to the world. Where to go: There's a wonderful mailing list just for the purpose of the new web team. http://lists.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-web-list/ If you're at all interested in working on this project, please join.

The parameter to the Catalog's 'searchResults' method is spelled 'sort_on' (it must be a legal Python identifier, because it is passed only as a keyword parameter). 'sort_on' is an attribute of the 'dtml-in' tag; if you let the catalog sort for you, you will be *much* better off (assuming it has a reasonable index to use, that is). Sorting won't work as expected with TextIndexes (but then, what is "expected" in that case?) > I'm not sure if I use the right syntax so could someone post an sample code > here please ? Here is a working snippet from the PTK:: <dtml-let newsitems="portal_catalog.searchResults( meta_type='News Item' , sort_on='Date' , sort_order='reverse' , review_state='published' )"> <dtml-in newsitems> ... </dtml-in> Tres -- =============================================================== Tres Seaver tseaver(a)digicool.com Digital Creations "Zope Dealers" http://www.zope.org
