DoD Users That You Know Of?
by Kraska, Andy W. 16 Nov '00

16 Nov '00

I am considering application of Zope to a Department of Defense (DoD) customer. It would be very helpful to talk with other DoD type users of Zope so we can establish to other DoD people that the product's already successfully in use. Can you give me contact information on any such users please? v.r ......Andy K. (719) 637-7324 and awkraska(a)tasc.com

dtml-if and dtml-with problems
by James Sintz 16 Nov '00

Could someone tell me why the follow statement is never true. <dtml-in "news.objectValues(['newsLetters'])" sort="nl_goLiveDate"> <dtml-if "nl_goLiveDate == '2000/11/16'"> <h2><dtml-var nl_subject> - <dtml-var nl_goLiveDate></h2> <p> <dtml-var nl_body fmt=structured-text> </p> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> The news folder contains several newsletters and one of them DOES have a 'nl_goLiveDate' of 2000/11/16 yet the above express seems to be always false. What obvious mistake am I making? Ideally I would like the page to show only the newsletter that has the same date as today's date. Jamey

RE: [zope] Help!!! (was: sudden ZClass breakage)
by James Sintz 16 Nov '00

16 Nov '00

My ZClass is broken, but only in Zope 2.2.2 why? I exported my ZClass and imported it into a Zope 2.2.0 installation and it works GREAT. I figured, some how, I must have really screwed up my 2.2.2 installation so I removed it off my server. I then downloaded and installed 2.2.2 again, installed all the products that I use (same products on the 2.2.0 server) and then imported my ZClass. I tried to add an instance and it errors out with "Invalid Date-Time String" again. What is up??? Could some Zope power user fill me in? Why would the same ZClass work fine in 2.2.0 and not work in 2.2.2? HELP!!!!!!! Thanks! Avoiding acquisition aka testing for contained objects
by Stefan H. Holek 16 Nov '00

16 Nov '00

If I want to know whether a certain object is contained in the current folder I do this: <dtml-if "'index_html' in this().objectIds()"> yes it's here <dtml-else> not here </dtml-if> Id like to know whether this is the best/most efficient way to do it. Things like hasattr() are subject to aquisition i.e. they would find an index_html method along the acquisition path; something I do not want. I also cannot bracket everything in a <dtml-with ... only> because chopping my namespace is not what I want either. TIA, Stefan -- Things work better when plugged in

Passing paramaters for form processing
by steve smith 16 Nov '00

16 Nov '00

How do I set some parameters for use in a form processing method? I have a HTML "FORM" tag referencing a DTML method name, and I want that method to have visibilty of some variables from the calling methods space. I've tried passing them with the url (eg, "ACTION=/someurl?fred=<dtml-var blah>") and by using REQUEST.set syntax in the calling method. Neither seems to result in the variable being visible to the form processing method. Any ideas? Steve

ZClasses on top of my Python classes?
by Randall Kern 16 Nov '00

16 Nov '00

I've seen several doc tidbits suggesting one create ZClasses derived from their Python classes, sticking all the biz logic in the python classes, and the presentation in the ZClasses... Could someone provide some insight into why this is better than simply writing separate python classes for logic and presentation? (Although I have to admit hitting the "Restart Server" button every time I make a typo is getting old) Thanks! -Randy

chapter 5 Zope book - problems with the examples
by Lee Reilly CS1997 16 Nov '00

16 Nov '00

Hi, I'm going through the examples in Chapter 5 of the Zope book and am having some problems. For those of you familiar with it, it is the 'Zope Zoo' example. Can anyone help me out? 1 - I create a DTML method called navigation as follows: <ul> <dtml-in expr="objectValues('Folder')"> <li><a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var title_or_id></a><br></li> </dtml-in> </ul> 2 - On viewing this method it works fine - a hyperlink to all sub-folders appears in the browser. 3 - I add '<dtml-var navigation>' into my standard_html_header so it reads: <html> <head> <title>ZAPHOD - zopetastic!</title> <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2"> </head> <body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" LINK="#000099" VLINK="#555555"> <p><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="1"> If your name is Lee then click <a href="manage">here</a> to login.</font> <br> <dtml-var navigation> 4 - On viewing index.html (containing header & footer) everything except the navigation method appears. Viewing the source of index.html reveals that the <ul> tags are created... just no <li> elements. 5 - The HTML is fine... all tags closed & in te right place. Can anyone see a problem? Thanks in advance for any replies. My appologies also for such a long post. - Best regards, Lee Reilly

You have an aquisition/namespace problem. If <dtml-var navigation> is used in a document like an index_html dtml-document, It tries to find the objecValues in that document. But a document is not a folder. So the list will be empty. So is your index_html a document or method? Try changing it to a method, as a method doesn't have it's own namespace and will look in the nearest aquired namespace. Hopefully a folder. Or use a more direct approach bu telling what folder you want to see objectValues from. <dtml-in expr="someFolder.objectValues('Folder')"> <li><a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var title_or_id></a><br></li> </dtml-in> Regards Max M -----Original Message----- From: Lee Reilly CS1997 [mailto:lreilly@cs.strath.ac.uk] Sent: Thursday, November 16, 2000 2:41 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] chapter 5 Zope book - problems with the examples Hi, I'm going through the examples in Chapter 5 of the Zope book and am having some problems.
