Are you interested in the "id" of "x"? Then the best thing is: <dtml-with x> <dtml-var id> </dtml-with> Dieter

It is possible to change the base class but I would not do it (as it affects all Zope objects and your change is likely to disappear when you upgrade). You can automate Zope either internally or externally. Internally (via a method (DTML or Python)) you would use ZopeFind to list all objects that need to be updated and then iterate (dtml-in) over the objects to update. Externally, you would use "ZPublisher.ZClient". I would go for the internal solution. Dieter

Pete Prodoehl writes: > Is it possible to have an image named "image.gif" or "image.jpg" ? (Are file > extensions allowed? If so, how are those objects addresses?) It is. And it is quite common. There is a minor problem, if you like to put images in an "image" folder. But this is not related to filename extensions. Dieter

Re: [Zope] Zope Book Beta

I wholeheartedly agree with Jason and Chris. I would very much appreciate a PDF version that could be easily printed, or read with Adobe's Reader. I hope there is no hesitation over making a PDF version available because of fear it will cut into sales of the bound volume. I think it would be just the opposite. I can easily think of examples (the original Tcl/Tk book comes first to mind) where the printed copy closed the sale of the bound volume for me. I'll be purchasing multiple copies of the Zope book for my shop regardless. (I tried to no avail to do a pre-order from OReilly's set yesterday :) Getting a chance to proof an early version and perhaps contribute to making it better only increases my desire to purchase the eventual publication. -- Tim Lynch Information Technology Section A. 404 Error on /p_/ Zope management images
by Andres Corrada-Emmanuel 05 Nov '00

05 Nov '00

Hi, I moved a "legacy" Zope-2.1.6 installation, and I'm finding that the management interface cannot find the usual Zope icons for "Folder", "DTML Document", etc. In addition, Zope no longer has the standard objects like DTML Document, Image, etc. in the Add Object list. All the installed products show up and existing folders and documents also appear. I'm completely baffled. Anyone seen this type of behaviour? -- ------------------------------------------------------ Andres Corrada-Emmanuel Email: andres(a)mamey.com Director of Technology http://www.mamey.com Mamey Phone: (413) 529-9993 ------------------------------------------------------ --

Greetings! I am graduation student and I come using the platform zope for development of systems directed to education. One of the main doubts when using zope, not only the syntax, but also as to use it to develop applications using methodologies (former UML). As to use concepts of Objects Oriented : inheritance, aggregation, dependence...? Using its it of management screen? yours truly -- ----------------------------------------- Douglas Daniel Del Frari ----------------------------------------- Acadêmico Computação - UNIJUÍ Brazil, RS ----------------------------------------- mailto:gaucho@detec.unijui.tche.br http://labinf.detec.unijui.tche.br/~gaucho -----------------------------------------

Cookies & Expiration
by Kit O'Connell 05 Nov '00

05 Nov '00

I'm trying to set up something like is used in the Zope Elvis tutorial, where it sets a cookie to show when you last visited the site, so that I can flag certain articles as 'new'. However, I'd like to have this cookie set to expire one week from the date of the current visit. i.e., if its 12:30 on 11/3 when a surfer visits my site, I want Zope to set their lastVisited cookie to expire on 12:30 on 11/10. Any ideas? Thanks, Kit

I decided to devote the weekend to installing a web server on my win2k pro box and bringing a site up. I chose zope because I needed to have some database stuff and I know python. Zope seemed a good fit and it is advertised as simple to administrate. I have installed a few IIS sites for clients. I observe that you support win NT, but at this point, I am not sure if you support win2k? My problem is whenever I try to use to management console, as to add a directory named for my domain, to start out on the content developer tutorial, I get a message something like superuser cannot own object. Although I have tried a few things, at the moment my zope account is the Administrator, since that seems like a good superuser account. I claim I am logged in as another user on the win2k box, who is a member of the administrator group. Reading the Admistrative doc, this sounds a bit like the web server is not passing authetication information, but at the moment I claim I have only Zserver running. I had installed apache, but decided I did not need this and the doc suggested I needed to do a few extra steps to get started, and I only have a meg pipe anyway, so I stopped apache and let ZServer start as a systems process? I hope someone kind will shed some light on my difficulty.

ZMySQLDA troubles
by Shelley Strik 04 Nov '00

This is my problem that I have been having. I am trying to install the database adapter from MYSQL to Zope. I downloaded the ZMySQLDA from the zope webpage. I then downloaded the Mysqldb from the zope web page. I installed both. It didn't work. After much trials and tribulations I found I didn't have the mysql librarys installed. I do now. I have work through a lot of errors and have found myself stuck at this one place. The error message that I am getting when I try to start Zope is 2000-11-04T16:18:14 ERROR(200) Zope Couldn't import Products.ZMySQLDA Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/src/packages/SOURCES/opt/zope/lib/python/OFS/Application.py, line 39 7, in import_products (Object: string) File /usr/src/packages/SOURCES/opt/zope/lib/python/Products/ZMySQLDA/__init__. py, line 106, in ? ImportError: /usr/src/packages/SOURCES/opt/zope/lib/python/_mysqlmodule.so: unde fined symbol: PyObject_Init I have tryed everything that I can think of and was hoping someone else might have had the same problem. If anyone can help me out it would be appreciated. I am running MySQL 3.22.32, Redhat Linux 5.2, Python 2.0 and Zope the latest version of Zope. Any suggest will be appreciated. Shelley Strik
