Zopistas, I would like to make a Zclass a baseclass of the Btree folder object. I installed Btree but it's not appearing in the list of base classes. Is there a way to get it in there? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, -Darin Lee

Obtaining just the filename for multiple file fields in an add form form
by Darin Lee 03 Nov '00

03 Nov '00

Zopistas, I have a form that has multiple file upload fields in it (5 to be exact). I am handling the upload via DTML. Essentially this is a "publication" item that can have multiple formats of a file attached (PDF, Powerpoint, Word, Excel, HTML). I would like the user to create the publication item (Zclass object), and then attach whatever format files they require to the add form. The Publication object is folderish and contains which of the files they uploaded. The problem comes in with naming the files. I can't figure a way to get the file name from the upload field without getting the entire local path on the user's machine. The following code works, if I manually delete the path out of the field in the browser (ie5) and just leave the filename: <dtml-call "manage_addFile(_.getattr(file1, 'filename'), REQUEST['file1'])"> However, I would rather get the filename, split it on the \'s, and then take a slice to get at the actual filename [:1] to pass to manage_addFile. The problem is, I'm not sure how to get this to work in DTML. This is also clumsy, because in this case there are 5 file upload fields on the form - the way I am approaching it would require the same code to be repeated 5 different times. Is there an array/list of the file fields I could loop through? Thanks in advance, -Darin Lee

pluggable brains

For ZSQL Methods it is possible to bind a ZClass to the records. These can be selected from te combo box labeled 'ZClass' in the 'advanced' tab of the SQLMethod's management screen, but there is always listed just one ZClass. My question: Why is there just one ZClass selectable, even if there are many ZClasses defined? Is that a bug or a feature? thanks phil

redirect on Authorization
by Spicklemire, Jerry 03 Nov '00

03 Nov '00

Daniel says: > We have a very large site and many of Users bookmark pages. > This can cause several problems especially if the site layout > changes, security changes at different levels and a user > bookmarks a result pages that depends on previous page(s) > submissions. Yes, it's easy to redirect to a "front page" upon authentication, but what's to keep the user from hitting the bookmark again, after signing on? The real question is, "How can we keep users from bookmarking dynamic pages?". It may be frustrating, but this is something that will haunt us as long as browsers have a bookmark button. Worse, the browser cache, and higher levels of caching (e.g. Squid), are clueless and will obliviously serve up expired pages. You need to be very diligent to include metatags on every dynamic page to explicitly prevent caching! The only answer I can come up with is to include checking for valid prerequisites, and redirect the user to the starting point of each process when they ask for the last page first. An interesting problem, which I haven't got a canned answer for. Later, Jerry S.

CMS/publishing system

Pete asked: > How well does Zope integrate applications/cgi's written in ASP, > Cold Fusion, Perl, etc...? As we've got a number of things we'd > prefer to keep as is, and run alongside Zope. and added: > Is it possible? I'm thinking that with Apache and mod_rewrite > it would be doable (using file extensions to map the request), > but I'm not sure how that might work under IIS or within Zope... Yes, the mod_rewrite approach is a very common way to serve from both Apache and Zope, e.g. static pages / images from Apache, dynamic stuff from Zope. In fact, that's how Zope.org was set up for quite awhile, and may still be (don't know the details). There are many refernces to this topic in the mail list archives. Try searching at : http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists.html For more intimate integration with existing Perl stuff, see: http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-perl/ CMS is the latest buzzword for Web Application Development, AKA WorkFlow, Distributed Applications, etc. Zope is perfectly at home with this paradigm, whatever the nom du jour!
