Zope.org is soooooo slow.

Zope.org is slow as hell. A couple of days a week at least. It doesn't exactly work in favor for Zope when I try to show of Zope.org to friends, collegues or potential customers and the site won't even respond. Argh! Why is it so slow? Do something about it!

Graphics served randomly. Apache - pcgi cacheing problem

Has anyone seen the following behavior: I am using PCGI with Zope 2.1.6 and Apache 1.3.9. Everything works fine except when reloading the same page, the graphics in it are not "painted" by the client browser. Checking on the apache logs, I found there is a 304, meaning the object has not changed on the web server and therefore the client should be using its local cached copy. On the Z2.log, for the same graphics requests, there are no 304's but 200's meaning Zope DID serve the graphic through pcgi. So, It appears Apache is loosing the graphics somewhere. Nevertheless, the graphic is never rendered. Weirdly this happens on IE 5.0, Netscape 4.75 and StarOffice 5.2. All browsers do have at least 5 MB of disk cache and 3 MB of memory cache. This confirms the problem lies on Apache itself. Am I right? This happens in a random fashion. I have not been able to establish some pattern. The text on the pages gets rendered fine. Any ideas on how to solve this issue will be greatly appreciated, Best regards. Felipe Barousse

need help: strange behaviour of dynamicly built global navigation tree in standard header

Hi there, I would also like to put my global navigation method in the standard header, so each document can use it. Missing pictures

Hello, I have notified that every time on my web page one picture is missing (with IE and Netscape). When I refresh the page there is another picture missing and the first is OK. After another refresh, the first is missing and the second is OK. And so on... I use Apache and Zope 2.1.6 under Linux. In the Apache log, I have notified that http code is always 304 but when pictures are missing in web page the transferred size is '-' and no '0'. What's goes wrong ?

strange zope problems of the crashing kind

Alright Zopers, I'm looking for a hint, a suggestion, just about anything would help since I can't, for the life of me, figure out what's wrong. Here's the run-down. We are running Zope 2.2.0 on Solaris, and we're running it through Apache + SSL. We're using a PostgreSQL DB with the ZPoPyDA. We are also using FSSession 0.4.0 for session management. Previously, we were using Zope 2.1.6, accessing ZServer directly, and using FSSession 0.3.1. Here's the problem. Previously, when we were accessing ZServer directly, Zope would spontaneously quit. No reason, it would just die. Restarting it would bring it back up, but minutes, sometimes hours, sometimes days later, it would spontaneously die again. I asked the list, but no one had had such problems (except Dieter, but that was an Oracle problem). So now that we're running it through Apache, we're still, apparently, having the same problem. What will happen is that every once in a while (more frequently with more traffic), Zope will hang indefinitely. The only way to get over it is to restart Zope. So apparently, the ZServer (which I guess takes requests from the pcgi process), is still going down as before. The question is, why is this happeneing? Or, more to the point, how can I figure out why it is happeneing? I looked through the Zope logs and the Apache logs and found nothing useful. I've been thinking that it might correspond to a heavy database access. Perhaps there's a problem with the ZPoPyDA. Or maybe it's FSSession (which, incidently, doesn't seem to be expiring cookies correctly). Or maybe it's a compatability issue with Solaris. I really don't kow, and I don't know how to go about finding out. So any help anybody can give me would be fantastic. If anybody's had any kind of similar problems, or if anybody has any suggestions, it would be much appreciated. I've racked my brains trying to figure it out, and I just can't. Thanks. Dieter, Yes, I have, and I spent hours tearing apart my site thinking I'd seriously screwed-up when suddenly all my images refused to load. But that was just on my Solaris 2.6 server. PCs and even Macs render my pages beautifully. It's just Netscape Communicator for Solaris that causes a problem. I don't have a clue. But, I can tell you why your logs wouldn't be showing up. Netscape caches images so that it doesn't have to keep reloading them from the server. If it's reading a cached image, you won't see an entry in the server log. Furthermore, it does not explain, why netscape displays the image as broken. It should get a nice 304 response which is usually handles correctly. By the way, Zope should cope with rounding problems for the "If-Modified-Since" headers. Dieter

The analysis revealed a missing thread synchronization between the Zope thread producing the image data and the ZServer thread delivering this data. However, I saw this problem only together with the HTTPResponse.write (i.e. streaming output), and never when a page or image was delivered traditionally. When I reported the problem, DC immediatedly answered that the problem was already fixed in CVS: the threads were now synchronized. Maybe, you should take a 2.2 ZServer and use it with your Zope 2.1.6. I do not know, however, whether this will bring up other problems. You may also look at my ZServer patch for the above problem. It definitely is not optimal, because it does not synchronize the threads but simply prevents ZServer to store large results in a temporary file. It was this concurrent access to the temporary file that led to the data loss. With the patch, I never again had problems with ZServer 2.1.6. Zope + Apache + fastcgi + unix socket ..

Hi there.. Have any1 of you gotten local unix domain socket style access of Zope behind Apache to work? I have not .. and I am running this on Solaris. I see that Apache is trying to access the "file" .. and I presume the request is passed to fastcgi .. but I never see the request in Z2.log. I have fired Zope with socket access .. and configured Fast- CgiExternalServer .. etc. for apache. Anyone have any information about this? Would apriciate any!
