YA newbie question
by Randy Edwards 09 Jun '00

09 Jun '00

I've got a newbie question that I can't seem to find an answer to after checking docs/faqs. This is sort of design-related. Presently I write web pages as tabled modules which are each put into various *.html files. I then string pages together with various modules using server side includes along with whatever specific code/text goes into that page. I figured this would be easy to do with Zope. I created a subdirectory called "modules" and put some modules into that; for example, "leftbuttons" is a dtml method containing a table data block which contains the standard left menu button HTML. I figured I could whip up a page and at the appropriate place in that page, do a '<dtml-var "modules.leftbuttons">' and have that code inserted into the page. That was my thinking. "leftbuttons" views properly by itself. However, when I try that dtml-var statment above, the page displays raw HTML. Obviously I'm using a wrong tactic or am not grasping a concept here. Anyone want to smack me (again:-) with a clue-bat? TIA. -- Regards, | Moore's Law: Every 2 years CPU power will double. . | Randy | Gates' Law: Every 18 months software speed will halve.

The symbol has changed! It seems that your symbol is interpreted as an ISO8859-1 code (Latin 1) rather than an "ISO8859-7" code (Greek). It might help, if your DTML contains a line <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('content-type', 'text/html; charset=ISO-8859-7')"> This should tell the browser, that the document is ISO-8859-1 encoded. SOAP status?
by Matt Gushee 09 Jun '00

09 Jun '00

Hi, Folks-- I know you hate questions like this, but does anyone know what's happening w/ SOAP support? Any guesses as to when there will be a SOAP-capable Zope release? I work for Architag International, an XML consulting and training firm, and am currently putting together a course on XML for e-Commerce, featuring BizTalk and SOAP. Up until now, most of our courses have been very Microsoft-centric, but one of my goals is to start bringing in some alternatives, and I would love to incorporate Zope. Thanks in advance for any info. ---- Matt Gushee 303.766.1336 x124 Consultant Fax: 303.699.8331 Architag International Cell: 303.941.0759 mgushee(a)architag.com http://architag.com

Dynamically Picking which object to display
by Jason Lee 09 Jun '00

I'm fairly new to Zope, so this may be a dumb question, and my vocabulary could be wrong, so please bear with me. I'm in the middle of building an e-commerce solution for my company, and we're evaluating Zope (and PHP and Servlets, but that's immaterial) as the platform on which to base this solution. That doesn't necessarily mean anything other than to give you context. One of the problems I'm facing right now is how to display a particular object based on a value. For example, let's say a user tries to access www.foo.com/MyAccount/CCInfo. If the user has authenticated, I need to show him the obviously sensitive data he has requested. If he is not authenticated, however, I need to give him a login screen which, for argument's sake, is in the DTML document Login in the root folder. How would I go about doing that? Am I making sense? Thanks... -- Jason Lee | My German is as good as my jujitsu, which is to say, Programmer/Analyst | "I don't know German." -- Tycho Brahe

If you cancel the request, do you get a traceback pointing to something in the TreeTag file? If so, you may need to allow anonymous users to access content information for the discussions. I don't understand why this should be the case, and I couldn't debug it because I couldn't figure out what validate did. -- cary

That is consistent! "unless" is equivalent to "if not". When "if" evaluate to "true", "unless" will skip its body and vice versa. 'if var' evaluates to "true", if "var" exists and has a (Python) true value. Seems that your request really has a key 'parmName'. > And worse still, I've now decided to use the FSSession, and the following > line is evaluating true when it shouldn't: > > <dtml-unless "FSSession.has_key('ReturnerID')"> > > Since no FSSession keys have been set, this should evaluate FALSE. The "FSSession.has_key('ReturnerID')" should of cause yield "false". This means, the "dtml-unless" body is rendered. Dieter

SOAP is not yet a really active project, so I can't say when it will happen. It is on the (soon to be published) development roadmap. We have some things to do to open up the dev. process and enable the community to really participate - once we have some of those key things out of the way it will be much easier for things like SOAP to get the needed resources...
