It is really weird. What happens precisely when you cannot connect to Zope? Does the browser return some error page? With what content? Does the browser simply hang? If set up in a standard way, Zope will write a ZServer logfile (usually called "Z2.log"). It writes an entry for each request it has finished. Do you see the "hanging/failing" requests? You can configure Zope to write a more detailed request log. For this you define a "trace" logger in Zope's configuration file (usually "etc/zope.conf"). Zope will then write a log entry when it receives a request, when it starts processing the request, when processing finished and when the result was delivered to the client. If Zope were to blame for your connection problems, then you should see the first request log entry (request received) but either the second (processing startet) or third (processing finish) should be missing. -- Dieter

Parse a XML file in Zope, zopeXMLmethods Product not working in Zope 2.8.1

Hello, I've a xml file on the file system (the source is on an other webserver and the download is scheduled). How ca I parse this file with a xslt in Zope. ZopeXMLmethods isn't working annymore in Zope 2.8.1. Does annyone knows a Product of method to parse xml in Zope without the zopeXMLmethods product ? Regards, Martin Koekenberg

Hi guys, I installed ZOPE on my PC with a WIN XP operating system. I connected this computer to another one with the same operating system. Everything works fine except the fact that after a certain time period, I am not able to have access to the ZOPE server through the connected (2nd) computer anymore. Do you know what the problem is? How to store in a RAM cache a list of objects?

I'd like to RAM cache the result of a long-runing ZopeFind method, formatted to a plain list of objects. But the RAM cache doesn't store the list and hence every time the supossedly cached method is called, the ZopeFind process id triggered. Other data (like the lenght of the resulting list) is stored and retrieved with no problem, telling by the cache manager's stats tab. Is that normal behaviour of the RAM cache machinery? I'm using Zope 2.73 on a w2k box, and the objects are sort of instances of the ExtFile(ExtImage) product. (Although the same happens with plain DTML Documents that I created for test purposes.) In both cases I set the "threshold entries" to a number higher than the lenght of the list, and also did the same with the "cache-size" in zope.conf Thanks in advance, Ausum

Problem with Photo Folder

Hi Zope 2.7.5 / Photo & Photo Folder product version 1.2.3 / Python 2.3.5 / Solaris 8 Intel We experience problems generating "displays" with the default settings on files larger then 650K. Uploading images works fine and the thumbnail is created. We had the setting of creating displays on uploads initially off, assuming these would be created on demand. Changing the default did not help and created the same error. (see example traceback below from the initial error) We are using the ZODB for storage and ImageMagick as the engine. We had problems compiling PIL on Solaris 8 and installed ImageMagick using the Sun-Blast packages (pkg-get). We monitored the machine playing with smaller and larger images, but could not see any noticeable increase in CPU or memory usage. Where is here the bottleneck and how can we change it? Any help welcome! (Googling "popen2" did not help either.) Log aggregator?

Anybody know of any software that will aggregate logs in a variety of formats and allow me to correlate events in one log with another? I'm getting really REALLY tired of eyeballing and grepping a multitude of logs on different servers, mentally translating incorrect timestamps, and trying to work out what the heck from one log corresponds to something in another. Anytime something goes wrong, i waste a huge amount of time on this. Well, duh, this should be automated, right? I googled a bit and came up with nothing useful; then I started hacking up a python script, which I'm sure I could do in an hour or three, but - blah, it would be a huge timesaver if somebody had written something like this already. I need to handle: * Different log formats. I'm mainly interested in the zope access log format (aka apache format) and the zope event log format. Must tolerate malformed lines like the #!@)%* ftp lines in the zope access log. * System clocks being incorrect. On some of the servers I work with, I am not the primary admin and can't do much about the %@W#% clock being wrong. (*cough* firewall blocking ntp for no good reason *cough*) So I'd like the software to let me specify how far wrong the various logs are, and compensate. * Servers in different time zones. Rare for me, but it does come up. * Filtering based on arbitrary strings, or (better) regular expressions, on a per-log basis. * Multi-megabyte logs. Sometimes i go to check a log and sysadmin has forgotten to rotate ever... -PW

filesystem directory view

I have cmf1.4.7 installed on zope 2.7.4. I also have plone installed. All seems to work well. I'm trying to use the file system directory view product to build a simple graphics library. My thinking was to store all images on the unix file system, then let some store some meta data on each image. Trouble is, I'm not finding any 'beginning' documentation on using file system directory view. seach zope.org <http://zope.org> yeilds hundreds of hits. I've looked through the install tree for zope and cmf and am not finding any usefull README's there either. so my first question is where is a good HOWTO on using filesystem directory view (I've got both the fdv that came with cmfcore and one that came with plone). my second question is, .. is file system directory view what I want. Again, I want to store files in the unix file system, expose those to zope, then store meta data on each of those image in zodb. -- David Bear What's the difference between private knowledge and public knowledge?
