Re: Perl and Zope

As one of the original Perl Hackers I agree that this irrational Perl Hate Minute stuff is silly. To some extent language preferences are religious, but that doesn't mean we need a holy war! My response to the "I emigrated penniless from my home country rather than use Perl, now you want to profane Zope, I will immolate myself" wailing is, frankly, g_e_t__a__l_i_f_e. Perl was born as a slack hack but it's grown up and you can produce great, clean, readable apps in it with a modicum of effort. You can also knock off some kinds of quick and dirty real world applets in a few (non-obfuscated) lines, where a "purer" OO language needs several non-obvious paragraphs and/or advanced tricks. On the other hand, you can write bad Perl and give people headaches. You can also do this in Python. Will the availability of Perl methods mean that fewer people learn Python? Probably, but it will be a smaller percentage of a bigger user "pie." My primary worry (if you're listening, Digicool) is that integrating the Python and Perl runtime environments on various platforms will lead to unexpected conflicts and performance problems. For example, will threading be enforced properly? If memory leaks, whose memory is it? If Perl releases a new version, will Zope admins need to hold back until it's cleared for use with Zope?

Images and tag tag
by peter 27 May '00

27 May '00

I use the nifty Image object and an extra tag to it. like this <dtml-var "myimage_gif.tag(border=0)"> But what I want to do is this: <IMG ONMOUSEOVER="this.style.cursor = 'HAND'" ONMOUSEUP="document.bgColor='#FFCCFF'" SRC="myimage_gif" width=118 height=77 border=0> I have tried <dtml-var "myimage_gif.tag(border=0, onmouseover=blablabla"> This is not supported the tag tag. Only border, width, height and alt can be used. Solutions? Ideas?

how to add a DTML Page to a specific folder
by IDEA WS 27 May '00

27 May '00

Here is a script that adds a new DTML page with a name from the form input field and generates a new folder with 'NewFolder' id and title. Could anybody suggest me how to add a new DTML Documentt this way (with a form) but to a specific, already existing folder. Or how to create a folder and a document placed in there with the same form, making it possible to specify the titles, but automatically generate different default ids for these objects. --------------------------------------------- <FORM>New Page: <INPUT TYPE="TEXT" NAME="NewPage"><BR> <INPUT TYPE="SUBMIT" NAME="AddPage" VALUE="Add page"></FORM> --------------------------------------------- Thanx Lena

I searched all over www.python.org but could not find anything on Python-dev. I am not using RPMs, I just download source directly from www.python.org. regards, Hung Jung ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Homesite 4.5.1 is very recommended one one very good reason and that is that you can in detail define <dtml-taggs> their color and closing tag. For example: You can specify that <dtml-if ....> ends with a </dtml-if> You can of course also specify how to color code different tags to seperate DTML from HTML -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Fran: Luis Cortes [SMTP:lcortes@pollak.com] Skickat: den 27 maj 2000 05:14 Till: zope(a)zope.org Amne: [Zope] HTML EDITORS Hello, Has anyone found a really good HTML EDITOR that plays nice with dtml tags? Do anybody have anything they can really recommend? Someone has mentioned that Digital Creations has taken on someone who is to implement a zope-based virtual learning environment tool kit. Is this so? Any mailing lists or contacts or test areas?
