You will have to use Apache + mod_perl + mod_rewrite + Zope. This way, you send the CGI requests to the cgi-bin, and the rest requests to Zope. The details could be somewhat involved. :( (see the following quote in http://www.apache.org/docs/mod/mod_rewrite.html `` Despite the tons of examples and docs, mod_rewrite is voodoo. Damned cool voodoo, but still voodoo. '' -- Brian Moore bem(a)news.cmc.net ) But it is definitely worth it. And I would guess many people out there actually use this configuration. I guess it is possible for someone to write some Zope product for Perl (a la mod_perl), but it would be major engineering to be fully compatible with Perl. If you don't mind re-launching the Perl interpreter every single time (I know, it's primitive), it's easy to execute the perl command from a Zope external method. For now, the best bet is probably Apache + mod_perl + mod_rewrite + Zope. Hung Jung ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Newbie: upload and MySql
by Marc DANAI 21 Mar '00

Hi, I went thru mailing list but I did not find a response to my problem. I've written simple form with one text field and one file type: <form action="/content/result" method="post" ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data"> <input name="c_title" width=30 value=""> <input type="file" name="c_body:file" width=30> <input type="SUBMIT" name="SUBMIT" value="Submit"> </form> result method is: .... <dtml-call "manage_upload(REQUEST['c_body'].read())"> <dtml-var REQUEST> .... When I press Submit button I get Error Type: NameError Error Value: manage_upload Any suggestion? b) How can I simply affiche (if I find a PB) the upload content in browser? c) How can insert uploaded content in MySql. I Have to use: VALUES ( '<dtml-var c_title>', '<dtml-call "manage_upload(REQUEST['c_body'].read())">' ) It works? it seems bizarre? Installation Directory Problems in a W2K install
by Jason Vagner 21 Mar '00

21 Mar '00

Hi. I installed Zope 2.1.6 on a W2K machine and have one problem installing additional components. I have tried to install TinyTable, Squishdot, Photo, ZPhoto-Album, and others but NONE of them get noticed by Zope when re-starting the service. A clue, I believe, is in this error message when trying to "import" ZPhotoAlbum.zexp: --- Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: Bad Request Error Value: File does not exist: C:\PROGRA~1\ZOPE-S~1\import\ZPhotoAlbum.zexp --- Shouldn't that directory be: C:\PROGRA~1\ZOPE-S~1\inst\import\ZPhotoAlbum.zexp ??? None of the lib installations that would be in ..\inst\lib get noticed upon restart, which leads me to think that somewhere in the installation it doesn't have the "installation" setting correct. Thanks. Jason

delete from REQUEST?
by Ragnar Beer 21 Mar '00

21 Mar '00

Hi Zopistas! I need to get rid (completely) of some items in REQUEST that were passed from a form. Is there an opposite to REQUEST.set() that deletes instead e.g. REQUEST.delete() or so? --Ragnar

Re: [Zope] 3rd post - Renaming and the Z Search Interface
by Rik Hoekstra 21 Mar '00

I've used Z Search Interface to create a set of forms and reports. I renamed some of the objects, including the data source. I've corrected all of the values that are visible via the Zope management interface so that the new names are reflected. All of the queries run by independantly if tested. But none of the reports (search results) operate if they are run via the Z Search interface pages (they did before the renaming ops). The error returned is: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Resource not found [RH] Could you send us the traceback with error message, so that we can see which resource can't be found? Otherwise it will be difficult to help. Additionally, there is one Z Search Interface "form" that will not open at all, even if *all* of it's text is stripped out. At that point, to the "naked eye", there is no content to the method at all. I was expecting to find some hidden properties associated with the objects that I could tweak and fix these errors but no luck. What is hidden from me that I cannot access? Or is this evidence of some corruption in the ZODB? And are these "oddities" (as they appear to me now) peculiar to the Z Search Interface or is this common behavior with Zope in general? [RH]Hm, I actually did experience something more or less the same, but it went away when I made a new search interface. Did you try to make a new search interface and copy (or re-implement) some of you code there. Did that give the same errors? Rik

You will need to find a way to execute the statement, "del REQUEST.form[ 'variableToErase' ]", or the equivalent expression, "delattr( REQUEST.form, 'variableToErase' )", neither of which can be done from DTML or from PythonMethods (ergo, must be done in an ExternalMethod or done from a Python product). -- ========================================================= Tres Seaver tseaver(a)palladion.com 713-523-6582 Palladion Software http://www.palladion.com

Re: [Zope] [Newbie] Document unviewable
by Rik Hoekstra 21 Mar '00

Hello, I still can't figure out why my DTML document gives me the following Zope error : Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: __call__ when I ask Zope to view it as the document is in a sub-folder, but viewable without problem when the document is in the root folder. Any rational explanation ? A link to the revelant paragraph in the documentation ? [RH]Can you send us more detailed information: the exact dtml for the local and the subobject method and the traceback of the error (you can get it by viewing the source of the error page) Rik

Re: [Zope] Lost Objects after System Crash (Zope 2.1.5 on Win32)
by Rik Hoekstra 21 Mar '00

Martijn, you're right. Nobody would use Win98 on production systems. But quite a few people use it on their notebooks or home PCs for development, I guess. At least that is what I do. If your assumption that a Windows cache problem is the reason for the data loss, is right, that would mean that Win98 must be holding the whole DATA.FS in memory/virtual memory without saving for hours! In that case it might be a good idea to warn everybody to shutdown and restart Zope under Windows 9x after major changes. BTW: So far, I've never lost data when I just "killed" the Zope process. So Windows seems to save data at least in that case ... Joachim. [RH]Hm, I have been developing for quite some time on an feeblish win95 machine at home, which repeatedly crashed, but I have never ever lost committed transactions. Strange. > This sounds like Win98 is using a write-cache that didn't get flushed to disk > because of the crah. IIRC, Zope forces write cache flushes, but it could well > be that Win98, being a client-patform, ignores that for performance reasons. > > Then again, who'd use Win98 for production sites? [RH]Ok, that's true

I once used REQUEST.clear(), which flushes the whole REQUEST (this was necessary because I wanted to do a batch operation on a fileobject of 500K , but didn't want to pass it around several times). This worked, I believe (but I never tested this through). hth Rik
