large installations and conflict errors

Hi! We run a self developed zope product originally based on cmf but highly customized and extended. Our Data.fs now has grown to a (packed) size of > 25GB and we are running more and more into performance troubles (mostly due to a lot of conflict errors). Our users make a lot of updates, i.e. we have lots of write operations. Currently we think that our bottle neck is the 'portal_catalog' and I'm working on splitting it up into multiple ZCatalogs. So far our story, but what I really wonder is, if there's anyone out there who has a similar large installation. Please let me know how large your zope instance is and what you have done to increase your (write) performance. Also any ideas that may help us are welcome. Additional info: 4 ZEO clients, 1 ZEO server (all machines have dual P4 and 3-4GB ram), Zope-2.8.0 Thanks, Markus

Benchmark ZOBD compared to RDBMS

Hi, I'm searching for benchmark comparing ZODB to some RDBMS like Mysql. I know that both technologies are different but I'd like to know if we should expect some performance problem with ZODB used to store millions of objects. Thanks Simon

Anyone using isapirewrite or freshlogic re-write for IIS and Zope?

Hi Has anyone used either of the ISAPI re-write tools for IIS and Zope from HeliconTech at http://www.isapirewrite.com or at Freshlogic http://freshlogic.net ? I'm attempting to set up a largescale instance on a windows small business server. The latter is written more for Plone and Zope in mind. Both cost around £30-35. Thanks

Zope 2.8 and conflict errors

Hi! Does anybody tried 2.8 and can say something about conflict errors? I've done few tests and results are not good. We've checked one of our applications on Zope 2.7.2 and the same application on Zope 2.8. We have simulated 50-65 users executing the same path in application. There was total count 1500 pages visited during test. With Zope 2.7.2 we've received about 39 internal server errors HTTP/1.1 500. Zope 2.8 supports MVCC so we hoped that the number of errors decrease but... with Zope 2.8 we get about 129 internal server errors HTTP/1.1 500 and additionally a lot of 402 errors (unauthorized). Errors 402 are because of internal server errors on login page (testing application continues test without checking if user has been properly logged in). In the event.log there are no conflict errors saved :-/ , only unauthorized. We get the error from client responses and from console. I don't know what happens. May it be because of using old data.fs file (from 2.7.2) with Zope 2.8? Anybody has similiar experiences? Is Zope 2.8 useable?? problems with zope 2.8.0 on windows

Hi, I installed zope 2.8.0 on a windows 2000 workstation. I used the file zope-2.8.0-fin al-win32.exe, installed the zope windows service and installed a zope instance. Since there are other zope version running on my pc I changed the port to 8083 by setting the port-base to 3 in the file zope.conf of the zope instance\etc directory When starting zope on http://localhost:8083/ I get no response. When I look to the windows zope service it starts not always automatically. Could there by a problem with the zope service of windows or the there another problem with zope 2.8.0 on windows? AttributeError in DocFinder 1.0.3

I've installed DocFinder 1.0.3 but I'm getting an error when I try to instantiate. I'm running (Zope 2.6.2 (binary release, python 2.1, linux2-x86), python 2.1.3, linux2) Python Version 2.1.3 (#1, Sep 19 2002, 13:15:46) [GCC egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)] I also found standard_template.pt on my local installation and copied it to the same directory on the server but that doesn't help either. What do I need to add? Metaclasses in ZOPE Products

Hi! What do I need to do to derive a new base class for my products from item that defines its own meta class? There's a whole mess of code in the Zope source code that deals with meta classes, but nothing I can actually identify as the thing to do. I am deriving from SimpleItem at the moment. This release marks the latest stable release in the CMF 1.5 series and should be suitable for production use. What is the CMF?
