An adapter for DB2

Python is installed in /usr/local/Python-1.5.2 Zope is installed in /usr/local/zope/2-1-2/ I would like to get data on my browser from DB2(Database) on MVS(OS390)trough this linux box. Is there an adapter for this database? Is the ODBC Adapter right for this situation? Thanks in advance for Your help

A simple <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('http://www.yahoo.com')"> redirects your page to Yahoo page. This is a very simple solution. This way you don't violate any law. The next simplest solution is to use HTML frames. You display the foreign page in a frame. But you must be obtaining data from a consenting third party or provide disclosure statements or features to remove the frame. The best thing to do is to use Python external methods, where you can extract things from a foreign source and even strip things that you don't want. (I don't know whether DTML has any method to do this directly. But using Python external methods allows you much more flexibility, because you can filter the fetched data dynamically, using functions from the string or the regular expression modules.) how can I dynamically bring in external page

What I want to do is have a page served by zope which is in fact on another non Zope server but to do this dynamically with dynamic pages, not just by pasting the html. The actual pages I want to bring in are HyperNews discussion pages. Best of all would be able to serve a HyperNews discussion page as part of a table. All advice welcome. Hi, Shalabh helped me a lot further, he gave me an external method which helps me on the way, however I would like to know if it's possible to write this in a DTML-method. If this isn't possible, then why isn't this possible? Here is the external method (placed in the Methods view of a class) def manage_afterAdd(self,item,container): item.myparent=container.id return Is it possible to write this in DTML? No, not directly as far as I know. But refering to you first question: is there any reason why a <from the top of my head> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('parent', container.id)"> <dtml-call "manage_changeProperties(REQUEST)"> after you created the instance would not work? I do this all the time. Or do I misunderstand your question? Rik

I am glad that this is solved. I ponder at the case-sensitivity though. Maybe Python doesn't detect the OS properly? I am not fully sure as to how Python decides when to ignore case, but it is clearly broken on your Win2k install. Also, the lack of error messages was very vexing and confusing. This combination may lead to more problems. The case-sensitivity could crop up elsewhere, and fail silently again, thus breaking other parts of Zope, or Zope Products. You may want to contact some Python mongers about this, altough I am not immediatly sure as to who. Maybe you should check out the python.org webpage for some hints and links. I have seen this same problem with pythonwin (Win95, NT) at times as well. I believe it was introduced one time on purpose. Does anyone remember why and how? Rik

Simple q'n but driving me crazy

I tried several things but none gave a good result :-( I've a property sheet call InstanceConstants. Assume there is a property called 'Category'. Now how can I automatically fill this value with a string, thus not through addForm (user intervention)? eg. Category = 'TEST' I assume this piece of code has to be placed in the _add method, but how does it look like? <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('Category','TEST')"> doesn't work and all my other trials with using the propertysheets names etc don't work either :-( Tom.

I'm doing this with an email address that runs a Python program that uses xmlrpc to insert items in Squishdot. It's actually pretty straightforward, the only catch is that many of the Squishdot methods are missing doc strings and are thus inaccesible to xmlrpc. Adding a blank docstring to the method you need is a trivial edit to the sources. I can post the code I'm using for this if you want, but the details of what I'm doing for our site may be less useful than the general explanation...
