CSS within a Zope site
by Stephen Pitts 27 Feb '00

27 Feb '00

I've designed a site with Zope (http://www.centralchurchyouth.org) and I uses CSS pretty extensively (as much as I can get away with so that it still renders OK under Netscape 4.x). Right now, pages are generated more or less under the following framework: html_header - includes html, head, body, and table start tags a_page (hypothetical) - contains actual data html_footer - includes page footer with modification date, then closes all necessary tags What if a_page wants to define custom CSS classes? Since the <head> attribute is fully defined in html_header, I can't just shove a <style> block at the top of a_page. Also, an appropriate @import command would need to be added so the page grabs CSS info from the site-wide stylesheet. I don't want to pollute the global stylesheet with a style only used on one page either, so what can I do? Has anyone encountered this problem before or does anyone have an idea as to how I can solve it? -- Stephen Pitts smpitts(a)midsouth.rr.com

Passing variables to External Method
by Mike 27 Feb '00

27 Feb '00

Hi All ! Just wondering how to pass a couple of values (username and password) to an external method. For simplicity at this stage I was just wanting to use string literals. My External method is called popmail. It seemed like I wanted to do something like <dtml-var popmail("fred","12343")> but it doesn't seem to work Could you please email me as well as returning to the list -- I don't want to miss a response ! Thanks in advance Mike

dtml-in appears to mess up the "space"
by Kevin Meinert 27 Feb '00

27 Feb '00

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello! I think my question was a little too complex before. I've simplified it. How does dtml-in change the current "space" set by dtml-width. It appears that it does, please see my example below. Hopefully this is something easy/familiar to you. ========================= I have this hierarchy: ========================= - - root + squishdot - index_html + somefolder + someOtherFolder - somemethod ========================= This code works: (code is in root/squishdot/index_html) ========================= <dtml-with somefolder> <dtml-with someOtherFolder> <dtml-var somemethod> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> ========================= But this code doesn't: ========================= <dtml-with somefolder> <dtml-in "objectValues(['DTML Method'])"> <dtml-with someOtherFolder> <dtml-var somemethod> </dtml-with> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> ========================= I get this error from my Zope server, on the one that doesn't work. ========================= Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: __call__ I read in the manual that dtml-in changes some variables, but I can't figure out how to get around it, and I can't find anything in the manual. (FYI: I did RTFM) I appreciate any insight, Kevin Meinert -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGPfreeware 6.5.2 for non-commercial use <http://www.pgp.com> iQA/AwUBOLg/nDlszdAdzf4MEQIahgCfVea1oh3UBxSSEYAMPFI1aXZ8TtkAniQM pfBRToHPEEM35K1fyTQ14GH0 =9vwM -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Character Swapping / Mapping

I have an URL coming out of a database like "http://www.myplace.com" and need to pass it to another website but they want it in the format of "http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Emyplace%2Ecom". Is there a simple method to do this with or some sort of VAR tag? If not, what is the find and replace tag? Thanks, JMA

I know I can't keep people from snopping in their cache, but if I can disable saving and printing in the PDF-file, and keep users from downloading the file directly, Im closer to what I need. but maybe it's getting too complicated for something that's not completely secure....? >HTH, > >Michael Bernstein. -- mvh./Best regards Juri Jensen ----------------------------------- Pingvin Partner - Linux løsninger email: juri(a)jones.dk -----------------------------------

Please realise that many users don't have a PDF viewer plug-in, and that a great many of us that do, have disabled it in favour of an external helper application. Even better, it is triviality itself to write a simple shell script that pretends to be a "helper application" that does nothing but save its data stream to a file, and thus acts identically to the "Save to file" method. -- J C Lawrence Home: claw(a)kanga.nu ----------(*) Other: coder(a)kanga.nu --=| A man is as sane as he is dangerous to his environment |=--

Assessment?
by Dave Goodrich 26 Feb '00

I'm asking the list cause we have a project to build a web app (in house) that has grown in scope, quadrupled in size. I've seen many references to SQL on this list so I just _knew_ this would be the place to ask. Currently we are looking into using PHP, WebObjects, or JSP. I'd like to get Zope in the running. PHP can handle it and I like PHP, WebObjects seems to missing available information so I don't know much. JSP, well I don't think the parties pushing for JSP can even tell me if they want to use something like jserver, JavaBeans, or what not. When I asked them if they considered Enhydra, they knew not of what I spoke... I believe Zope can do what we need. We plan to use the server to serve up approx 200 pages, pull downs and trees will be populated with query results, pages will be personalized, all the general web app stuff. The server must be able to support upto 40k requests per day. All content will come from the SQL server (we are looking at Sybase and Oracle I'm open to suggestions). SQL will be the heavy lifter using compiled in functions for queriying tables with well over 100k records. I like the SQL connectors in Zope, they are easy to use and customize. Basicly Zope must just maintain sessions, render charts from SQL results, and populate the page with data on request. My question is this, has anyone built a web app in Zope this large? Will you share your experience with

Harumph. I should've checked better before sending. ZDaemon will _not_ fork when it encounters the Z_DEBUG_MODE flag set. However, setting the BOBO_DEBUG_MODE flag to 1 will work. Internally, BOBO_DEBUG_MODE is the old name for Z_DEBUG_MODE, and it still works as well. However, the newer fork and watchdog daemon will not look for it. Also, the log will not be echoed to STDERR (which it would in all cases with Z_DEBUG_MODE set). Side effects of setting the (BOBO|Z)_DEBUG_MODE flag (that I could find): - When trying to access methods starting with an _ (underscore) or that have no docstring, a more descriptive error message instead of Not Found is returned. - All other Not Found errors are replaced with a debug error with the message "Cannot locate object at: [URL]" - Tracebacks in error messages will be wrapped in <PRE></PRE>, not - The Unauthorized error will include information on whether the supplied credentials where incorrect or that there were no credentials supplied. - HTMLFile objects (used in Python products) includes the filename from which they were sourced - HTMLFile objects, when called, reload from their sourcefile if the sourcefile has changed since the last call. > > You might want to add STUPID_LOG_FILE=[path to log] as well, so that > logging messages (like that of the GUF) will be sent to the proper log > file. Note, as said above, if Z_DEBUG_MODE is set, no forking will take place, and log messages will always be echoed to STDERR, even if STUPID_LOG_FILE is set to a filename. -- Martijn Pieters, Software Engineer | Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com | Creators of Zope http://www.zope.org | mailto:mj@digicool.com ICQ: 4532236 | PGP: http://wwwkeys.nl.pgp.net:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xA8A32149 -------------------------------------------
