How to list the attributes of an object?

Is this possible? I'm trying to display all the roles that a script has: I get my list of roles, but I don't know what attributes they have. I also can't find "Role" as a class listed in an API anywhere. I got this far: <dtml-in "AUTHENTICATED_USER.getRoles()"> <dtml-var "_"> </dtml-in> ...but that just prints an object tag. Thanks, Robb

Hi. I'm currently in a quite embarrassing situation. A site has been running for about half a year non-stop but now a problem arise when I tried to pack the database : there is a corrupted record dated 08-08-1999 which makes it impossible to start up the database. I was able to get into a state preceeding that date by running fixbbbtt.py, but a lot of work has been done since, and the site should even look absolutely different by now. Is there an easy way to fix things, or is the only possibility for me becoming an expert in ZODB2 format and doing it by hand ? ------------- Hannu

What am I doing wrong?

Warning - newbie alert! I'm playing around with zope to see what it does and have come up with a problem that I don't understand. I have an sql method sqlSelectTopic which returns 'topic': select * from topic_table I have another sql method sqlSelectSiteByTopic: argument 'topic' select * from site_table where topic = '<dtml-var topic>' In another method:  <h3></h3>  <p></p>   Whereupon I get (from sqlSelectSiteByTopic ???): Error Type: Bad Request Error Value: ['topic'] It was my understanding that the 'topic' returned from sqlSelectTopic would be used by sqlSelectSiteByTopic, but this seems to be wrong. Whats going on? How can I get it to behave? Thanks for your help, Glenn

index_html and DreamWeaver

Hi, I'm trying out DreamWeaver as a possible editing client for DTML Documents in Zope. It seems to work pretty well, except for a few snags. I see that Zope's FTP can't handle renaming of files. Also, you can't work in a version through FTP. These can be sidestepped though, unfortunately DreamWeaver on my PC won't edit files that don't have an extension. I've seen previous posts on this but no solution. Any ideas? The other approach is to have all files end in .html. This has it's advantages in that you kindof need to do it for search engines to index those pages anyway, which leave index_html. Is there any way you can tell Zope to look for index.html instead of index_html? Cheers, Chris

Help needed getting Zope to work on DEC OSF1.

I am running the provided start script under a user account. I have double-checked the permissions. I am probably missing something simple. Does anything come to mind? Hi, I've used both the reverse proxy and the fastcgi mechanisms (on www.ekno.com and www.ekit.com, respectively) and there's no comparision - fastcgi is _far_ superior. It's much faster, it's less load on the apache machine, and you don't end up with the apache server eating things like the remote machine name. Brute force?

I tried to get an external method to import a function from another python file which did't work if that other file was in the Extensions directory, too. So I tried out where it would work and ended up with my import file in zope/lib/python where it also was byte-compiled nicely after the next zope restart. But: this somehow felt to me like brute force. Where would one normally put a file to import from? Is there a strategy that I missed? Documentation? Ragnar

Hooking Zope into Apache - please read

Hi all, No, this is not a question on how to do it. All the how-to's available clearly explain this... it just an informational question and I hope somebody can give me a straight answer. In reading Jeff Shelton's Python conference summaries (by the way, thanks Jeff for doing this! Now, people who're not able (because of their job, ...) to go to this conference can still pick something up! Great!) I read the following : In Jim's opinion, the "preferred way" to hook into Apache will soon become FastCGI rather than PCGI. Well, I can understand that FastCGI is better than PCGI, but I read (and implemented) a how-to of anser (Using Apache with ZServer (Not Zope cgi)) in which he explains the use of ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse. Well, this mehtod looks to me really handy. You use all the positive things, because you can use Apache, but also the fast ZServer. So, now, you'll understand that I'm a little bit confused. What is now the best way ... using FastCGI or ProxyPass....? What are the differences between the two? What are the pro's and con's? Regards, Tom.

Hi, while trying to traverse the PARENT hiercharchy to compare their names to certain roles I encountered the following problems: - how can I check what kind of object a given id represents? - how can I convert a string to an object and vice versa? - how can I do the same for roles? thanks for your help --Oliver
