Seems to work OK for me... I tried accessing the ZCMG and two of the first few HOWTOs, didn't experience anything abnormal... -----Original Message----- From: Pavlos Christoforou [mailto:pavlos@gaaros.com] Sent: Thursday, February 03, 2000 7:06 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Zope.org does not respond Hello everyone- I am trying to access zope.org and everytihn is ok and fast until I try to access the HowTos or any other subobject of the documentation folder. Help - Zope self restarting
by tonyr＠ep.newtimes.com 03 Feb '00

03 Feb '00

It appears that zope is restarting itself, either crashing and restarting or just plain restarting. I suspect is some errant code someplace but have not been able to pin down what it is. Does anyone have any pointers on how to identify code that could be forcing zope to restart itself? -- ------------------------------- tonyr(a)ep.newtimes.com Director of Web Technology Newtimes Inc. -------------------------------

Interested in checking out the zope/webDAV info and all links lead to webdav.zope.org. Server hasn't been answering (at least yesterday & today). Browser status bar says port 2518. Anyone have any info on when it will again be available or alternate address to the same info? Darren Addy University of Nebraska at Kearney

It's kind of scary to use SiteAccess when this happens so easily. The ideal solution is for SiteAccess to detect infinite recursion. Get an object by name from a folder
by Hung Jung Lu 03 Feb '00

03 Feb '00

Hi, This has bugged me for a while. I know I can get ALL the items in a folder by using objectValues() or objectIds(). But how can I get an object in a folder quickly without having to go through every single item? I have an object named debug_dtml, it can appear in any folder or subfolder. How do I check whether it exists? The <dtml-with ... only> tag does not help much, because it does not allow me to access other variables when I have to render the debug_dtml method. The _.hasattr() function is no good because it assumes acquisition. I would like to disable acquisition for this purpose. What I would like are folder methods like: hasObject('object_id') getObject('object_id') But apparently this is impossible without writing a Python external method. regards, Hung Jung ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

SiteAccess & SSL question
by John Edstrom 03 Feb '00

03 Feb '00

I've been experimenting with SiteAccess & proxies. It works fine (so far) with regular connections, but don't see how to use it with http and https paths to the same object. As I understand it, there can only be one SiteRoot in any single object and the Base, if specified, must begin with "http://". How can I have an http and an https path to the same object and still have the convenience of SiteAccess? -- John Edstrom | edstrom @ slugo.hmsc.orst.edu

Simple security puzzle
by Robb Shecter 03 Feb '00

03 Feb '00

Hi, I just made a simple method to make a list of all sub folders that have a "description" attribute: <dtml-in "PARENTS[0].objectValues(['Folder'])" skip_unauthorized> <dtml-if "_.has_key('description')"> <a href="<dtml-var URL1>/<dtml-var id>"><dtml-var title_or_id></a> <br> <dtml-var description> <br> <br> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> ...This works great, and saves a lot of work. The problem: Some sub folders require certain roles or users for access. And of course, I want these subfolders included in the listing - when the user clicks on them, they'd get asked to log in... But, with the above method, any sub folders that require a different role than anonymous don't get shown at all. If I remove "skip_unauthorized", then I get a security exception, apparently when trying to access the sub folder attributes. To me, it looks like I want the equivalent of a unix setuid program - the anonymous user runs my method, and my method runs with different permissions. Any suggestions? Thanks, - Robb

Expiring sessions
by Timothy Grant 03 Feb '00

03 Feb '00

Hi all, I'm using SQLSession, and would love to expire a session, but don't know how to do so. My situation is this. I have an app with a "welcome" screen with links to a number of other pages that have various functionality. As long as my user has a "current" session open, I want to keep session management running, but if they leave the browser and come back then I want to force a new session. I don't really know how best to do that as the main screen is displayed regularly in "normal" operations, I can't clear my session everytime that that page displays. I also need to know what the best method of clearing out the SQL DB. is when a session expires. Thanks. -- Stand Fast, tjg.
